Dear Groups:

I hope you all are having a very pleasant Holiday weekend, and that Santa
brings you what you want.

I have a Toshiba laptop, JAWS 14, Microsoft 2010 and Windows 8.

Once I have a music CD inserted, what are the steps I need to follow to
download, or rip, the CD to my hard drive?

Merry Christmas

Hmm, no idea. Working fine for me on Windows 10 home, 64-bit. Using NVDA 2018.4.

Make sure the volume isn't turned all the way down while playing a station. Funny thing: If my Hope volume says 100 percent, it's turned down. 0 percent is maxed. Yes, it's reverse thinking. LOL!

Ok, just thought of something else. In the main window, tab to options, then activate it with the space bar.

Tab once to "output device" and try out the different choices there, pressing ok to exit and save the setting in options after each entry. Maybe one of those will make Hope work for you.

Re: Drive not showing in My Computer

wayne <greenwood33@...>

I just read Walter's question, and Mike's Possible solution which was a good suggestion and sometimes it works. For Walter, I wish I had read your message before you reformatted your drive, I'm glad that worked for you, however reformatting doesn't always work. sometimes, let's just say, windows gets a little confused and even if you think it's seeing your drive, because it's popping open the auto play window, asking you to scan or fix the drive. As soon as you tell windows to do it, when you believe everything is fine, well it is, but windows is confused. I've had this happen with external drives and thumb drives and using this software you can fix it. One of the options you'll find in the software is to give that drive or flash  drive a drive letter, you'll be able to go through a number of drive letters. Of course you''ll have to be on the drive you working on. It will be one of the drives that will show up in this softwarewhere you won't be able to see it in windows until it's fixed. the drive letter assignment table is just a little confused. Usually, I've always had success sorting the situation with a third party application. Most of the time the one I go too is AOMEI Partition Assistant . For most things in the free personal addition  is adequate. Note this is a  powerfull application and when you use it, if you don't know what to do then don't do it or you could ask me. For all of you that want to add this to your application tool box here's their web address:

Hi.  Yeh, I did try that but it still had the same problem.  The drive was exFat but I bit the bullet and reformatted it as NTFS and it appears to be working fine now although I've lost all the files on it and it is going to take a few days to transffer all the 6.5tb worth of files back on to the drive.  Walter.

Hi All.  This morning I was working with three of my external drives, 2seagate drives and a WD My book drive.  I am using Windows 7 64bit.

I am, or was using JAWS 2018 but I found Jaws would go silent for nearly 10 seconds every time I did something or changed windows.  This was annoying so I installed the latest version of Jaws (2019).  Before I did this installation all was fine with my drives but I shut them down before the install of Jaws.  When done I turned all three back on and the Seagate drives started up fine but I got a Windows dialogue asking me if I wanted to scan and fix the WD drive.  Since I knew all was well previously I said no and I got the normal dialogue i.e. do I want to open the drive with explorer.  When I did all my files were their but I couldn't do anything with them such as rename files etc.  I closed the drive down and went back to my computer but my WD drive didn't show.  I went to Device manager and it was there and said it was working correctly but clearly it isn't.  I have turned off the drive and disconnected it and then re-connected it again but I still get the scan and fix dialogue and I've said yes a couple of times but seconds after I've hit the start button I get the auto play dialogue again.  Any suggestions as to how I can get my drive to show in my Computer once more please.  Walter.

Hi all,

How can I order from amazon and make sure I don't get hooked into

didn't choose it, but when the order confirmation came through prime had
been added. I was able to call and get amazon customer service to

get prime when we make the order.

Thanks.

Yes; you just made me remember that when I unwisely bought the dell laptop off that guy in 2007, it had a broken key, so he arranged for somebody from Dell to come and replace my keyboard.  The guy said he was glad I didn’t try to do it myself, because he said he doesn’t know how many computers he has had to fix from people breaking them trying to do it; they mess up screws and all that.  Pam.

It is called an internal keyboard.  It is not wireless.  I consider the internal keyboard to be a subcategory of wired keyboards.  Technically, I don't know if it is considered that but it doesn't use radio signals to communicate and it is connected to the computer directly.  I haven't seen or looked into this, but I would expect that there is a plug inside the machine that plugs into the inside of the computer to connect the keyboard electronically to the computer.  I expect that the internal keyboard can be replaced, if necessary as can computer components in general and that means it can be unattached and a new internal keyboard attached.  Thus, a category of wired keyboard.

Re: cannot sign into gmail

Hi Joe,

At the outset, let me clarify if you things. This issue concerns the online email account and has nothing to do with the person’s computer. So, even if you restore the system I do anything to the local machine that might not be of any help. In any case, windows insures that it should not do anything wrong the local files and settings as far as possible.
Coming to the recovery after Gmail ID,
I would suggest you log into that particular on your own, and go about following the on-screen prompts in order to get into the account. From the description, it seems that this account is protected by a two step authentication method. And, you may be able to get the second step by taking care of the code that you may obtain from the phone.

Although, I have not been able to suggest anything concrete, but I hope this is of some help.

Thank you,

Bharat.

The keyboard in the computer is what I would call a wired keyboard.  It is connected to the computer directly.  It is not a wireless keyboard.  It doesn't use radio signals to communicate with the computer.

A wired keyboard would be a keyboard you would hook up to one of the USB ports in your laptop.  So, you are referring to your laptop keyboard.  If you don’t have a numpad, I guess you don’t have a numlock.  Pam.

Hi Mike,
I'm having troubles with the laptop keyboard which I thought that was the same that a wired keyboard. That is, I don't use a wireless keyboard so I thought it was a wired one.
This keyboard don't have a numpad. I'm using NVDA.
Thanks for your kindness trying to understand my troubles. Maybe I wasn't so clear as I would like because English isn't my first language, so I may have wrong with something.
Just to clarify: I'm using my laptop keyboard. The keyboard that came with it.

Hi Marcio,

I'm confused.  Are you having trouble with the wired keyboard or the laptop keyboard?  Does the wired keyboard have a numpad?  Is the numlock not working on both?  I don't know if this matters but, what screenreading program are you running?
Take care.  Go Rams!

Yep, as far as I remember, it had a numlock key. And I'm using a wired keyboard.
It doesn't do anything anymore. Looks like the key don't even exist or it's useless now.

Hello folks.
My laptop used to have a numlock key so it was possible to put numbers instead of letters as I don't have a numpad in it.
The problem is: numlock seems to just not work anymore. Even when I press it, it doesn't do anything.
So how do I can get it back?
Any suggestion will be highly appreciated.
Thanks.

It is connected to the computer.  It is a wired keyboard.  If it doesn't have a numpad, it doesn't have a numlock.  I don't know what key you are pressing but the numlock is a key on the numpad.  If you want to use the internal keyboard, you can buy a USB numpad and use it while using the internal keyboard.  You can also buy an external full keyboard that has a numlock if you want to use a completely external keyboard.

Drive not showing in My Computer

Walter Ramage

Walter.

Re: About Thunderbird's Unified Folders

Why not focus in the main inbox at the top of the tree and view all inboxes at once?
At the top of the tree you have "inbox," if you tab you'll be in the emails for all inboxes.

If you want to focus on emails from one inbox, just move to the inbox for that account.

While it's true that this feature physically locates inboxes one beneath the other for those with two or  more email accounts, what it does not do is move from one inbox to another when using the Next command when all messages in one inbox have been read. I was really hoping for this feature to work in this way. What on earth was Mozilla thinking? What would be the purpose in arranging inboxes one above the other if not to jump from  the end of one to the beginning of another with the Next command? I set it back to the old arrangement, which makes more logical sense to me.

Re: looking for accessible dvd player

Hi Mary,

Check out the samsung models.  I have one that I purchased in 2016 I think.
When I got it back then I needed sighted assistance to get it up and running and enable Voice Guide.

Subject: [TechTalk] looking for accessible dvd player

Hi all,

I have been looking into getting an accessible dvd player. My sighted husband has a large dvd and blueray collection. I found a player made by Philips that claims to have enhanced accessibility, including voice guided menus. the reviews for that player weren't all that great, but I haven't found any references to other manufacturers making anything that       would work for a totally blind person to navigate what is on the screen. My experience in the past with dvd players was that you had to be able to do that in order to start the disk playing in some cases, or to navigate to a given episode of a multi-episode disk etc. Any help out there?

Mary
