Also, I have heard that some of the machines actually do have means of providing hot water for making things like hot oatmeal or even hot water for things like tea bags.

Good Luck!

It is not getting the k cup that is you need to make the pod is in the
pod holder correctly, and be sure to push down the top of the holder
to it clicks and pokes a hole in the pod.

In sayint this does the pods you had the issue with have a hole in the
middle of the top when you finish?

Well, guess what? This morning, all we get is clear water even with
K-cup in the right place. We can't figure out what the problem is.
Yesterday, it made coffee; today it does not. When the water comes
through, it splatters and comes through clear. We tried a second
K-cup; same problem.

Does anyone have any idea what is happening?

If he were selling to someone sighted it would be unpermitted, but if it's for someone blind being it's a product specifically for the blind, it's perfectly fine.  I'm stating only because I just purchased one of his desktops for a sighted friend of mine that couldn't afford a computer and I paid the shipping cost via UPS.  I didn't ask him to ship free matter because I just don't work that way and I wouldn't put someone else into that kind of jeopardy.

Hi Janet,

I'll share my 1st 2nd, 4th, 6th...

I've bought a couple of laptops and several desktops from him and it depends on the computer, I don't know why this is, on whether it'll be shipped free matter for the blind, UPS or something else, and if he has to charge for shipping you will be told beforehand, so there are no surprises.  Any upgrades you want and are available you will discuss with him and everything will be agreed upon before anything happens.  He's very thorough.

I always paid via PayPal and if there are other payment options, this is something to discuss with him as well.  He always sends you  an email letting you know when the package is going to be sent, sometimes expected arrival date, and this email will also include a tracking number.

Your conversations can be by phone or email, but whichever you do it keep records just to cover yourself.  I'm only mentioning the keeping records thing as just a good way of keeping records of any transaction.

My dealings with Kevin have all been straight forward and he's always been straight up honest with me.

Hello,

Can you please share your experience you had as a first time buyer from Kevin? I was thinking of purchasing a desktop from Kevin as well, this is the reason I’m asking you to share your experience.  Can you tell us what you purchased, such as a desktop, Laptop, ram, SSD or HD? Is it going to be delivered, to your home? How long before you receive the PC? Can you tell us how much you paid for delivery? Can you tell us how you paid for what ever you bought, meaning, what form of payment does Kevin accept? Can you tell us if you got a good price? Are you being charged for delivery, or is that included in the price of the PC?

Thank you for any information you can share.

Yes, the dude has upgrades available at very low prices as well.  SSD's are defintely the way to go!  I've purchased several computers from this guy, his name is kevin, and his upgrade prices are much better than buying drives from Amazon or wherever and he doesn't charge hardly anything to swap them out or make other upgrades.  He has the parts like RAM and hardrives, both spinning or SSD's, in stock.  But, it's necessary not to assume that he always will have computers in stock , but to check with him to see what he has or if you can have him order something for you when you're in the market.

HI Everyone,

Well, since my Windows 7 stopped working. I am wanting to buy a new desktop computer, as I hate laptops.  I was at Best Buy yesterday, so I thought as long as I am here, I decided to look at the new Windows 11.  I saw one I really liked, but I didn’t like the price in which was 13 hundred dollars!  LOL!  The main thing about this computer I really did like is it had no tower, the hard drive, ram, fan, just everything that is in the tower, is in the monitor,  and the monitor isn’t all that big.  It also didn’t have a cd drive tray, but I’m not for sure I would need that anyway.  So, my question is has anyone seen these new computers like this, and if so, can you please share your thoughts?

Thank you in advance.

Google and screening calls

John Holcomb II

I’ve used this on iOS with google voice , and I assume it’s also on Pixel phones.

I don’t think its on any other phones on android other than the pixel phone, or if  you use Google voice?

Second, I’ve turned of  off the call screening.

Here’s why I don’t like it.

It says the persons name when I answer, but then says press 1 to except this call.

The problem is you have to hit 1 so fast, that by the time you hit 1 its already hung up.

Has  anyone else experienced this, and is there a way to give you more time to hit the number one?

I like the feature but have missed important calls one time to many.

Thanks,

John

Yes, the dude has upgrades available at very low prices as well.  SSD's are defintely the way to go!  I've purchased several computers from this guy, his name is kevin, and his upgrade prices are much better than buying drives from Amazon or wherever and he doesn't charge hardly anything to swap them out or make other upgrades.  He has the parts like RAM and hardrives, both spinning or SSD's, in stock.  But, it's necessary not to assume that he always will have computers in stock , but to check with him to see what he has or if you can have him order something for you when you're in the market.

Subject: [TechTalk] Windows 11 Question Please.

Janet

Others who use Outlook will, I hope, discuss the question.  You may be able to get more what you want done by working directly with GMail on the site.  But people may post who have created rules in Outlook itself and had them followed.

I wish there was a way to just delete the spam folder and have all mail go in to my in box since I have to arrow through all mail any way to make sure that I am not missing important mail.

Are you using an IMAP or a POP3 account?  You can’t tell GMail how to determine what is spam directly.  You can tell GMail, on the web site, that something in the spam folder isn’t spam.  As I understand it, you can make a label on the web site telling GMail to move something specific such as mail from a certain domain to the inbox or somewhere else so it won’t go into the spam folder.

If you are using an IMAP account with your e-mail program, you can see the spam folder in the program that is the same one on the web site.  So you can check it for spam and read or delete what you want from that folder and not go to the web site to check spam.

Do you have to tell Gmail how you want to filter the mail that goes in to spam at the Gmail web site?  I know it sure doesn’t do any thing when trying to tell the OutLook client how you want mail filtered.

I have to check the Gmail spam folder and the Yahoo Junk folder several times a day.  I would much rather that every thing just went in to my Yahoo and Gmail in boxes since I have to go through mail one item at a time to determine if I want to save or discard each email.  So, the spam and junk folders are just worthless time consuming places for important mail to hide.

BTW, the Gmail spam filter will catch some mail one day and the very next day allow the exact same mail to go in to my in box.  I wonder why it doesn’t treat the exact same mail the same way every time.  For me, it isn’t learning a dang thing.  But, maybe, I am suppose to make all changes at the Gmail web site?

I think you wouldn’t have these problems if you used GMail.  Your problem may have nothing to do with messages being filtered as you are discussing it.  It may be that certain domains or addresses are blacklisted by your provider.

As far as GMail and spam is concerned, if you repeatedly tell GMail that new messages are not spam, GMail learns not to send such messages to spam.

You may find it much easier and less frustrating to deal with spam in this way than to get your other provider to white list domains or addresses that it black listed.

Hi all,
Does anyone know of any email services (if that's even the right word for them,
sorry if it's not) that don't filter messages at all? The reason that I ask is
because I had a gmail account (I actually still have it but I don't use it
anymore) but I stopped using it because I found out how much gmail filters
messages and this annoyed me. I switched back to an account with my ISP, but now
I'm having all kinds of problems with their filtering marking messages that
aren't spam as spam which means that I don't recieve them and now I'm constantly
worrying about whether or not I'll get a message or not and also about what
messages I'm not getting because of their filtering. There are newsletters that
I've signed up for that I'm pretty sure are being marked as spam and so therefor
I'm not getting them, I've added these addresses to my safe senders' list on my
ISP's webmail preferences but this has not solved my problem. When I was
subscribed to these newsletters with my gmail address they'd come through just
fine, but I really want to have all of my emails being sent to one address, I
really don't want to have to have to be checking multiple addresses all the
time. The reason I changed addresses is because I asked my ISP and they told me
that they don't filter to the same extent that gmail does. I totally get that
they need and want to protect people from spam and such, but when you're not
receiving all emails sent to you because they're thought to be spam when they're
not then that's no good either. I've asked them and they say that they can't
turn off the filters (if I have to deal with spam then I really don't care if it
means that it prevents other emails from being marked as spam and therefor I get
them which is all I really want) and I haven't gotten any response from them
when I've asked them to look into emails that aren't spam but are being marked
as such by their filters. This is really frustrating and worrying me and I'm
really not sure what else to do so that's why I'm asking about this. If anyone
is wondering I use the latest versions of Jaws, Office 365 (as I use Outlook to
access my emails) and Windows 10 pro and I don't have any rules or filters set
up in Outlook. Really hope someone has a suggestion, as I really want to do
something about this as it's driving me nuts, please don't tell me to just
unsubscribe from the newsletters. Sorry for such a long message, any
help/suggestions will be very much appreciated!!!! Thanks

I don’t know if he buys from a business or who ever.

Maybe he gets units and parts from a  bbuisness that upgrades tech for other companies.

Maybe he finds stuff  on auction sites.

Some of the stuff he sells is still under warranty.

You know   like returns or open box.

Subject: [TechTalk] Windows 11 Question Please.

HI,

His machines come with a current version of jaws demo installed.  I think  he woud put nvda on if asked to.

I have neverf seen any info about portlabeling.  These days,  just about everything is a usb or  s d card port, of course, the usb c is different from the other usb ports,    so you cannot mix them uppppppppppppppppppppp.

The next time I see one of his posts to the blindad list, I will forward it to you, Gene.

I don’t recall other things being discussed that Kevin may do.  Does he put a screen-reader on the computer such as NVDA?  Will he label ports and jacks in Braille or in some tactile way to help people set up computers without sighted assistance?

I use a wee dongle, as I said earlier, it  is about the size  of the first joint of your little finger.

It plugs into a usb port and serves both the keyboard and mouse.

No wires or configuration needed.  Just plug them in and turn

Hi Monte,

Do you use Bluetooth, or a Dongle with your keyboard?

Hi Janet,

I’ve been using a wireless keyboard and mouse for  a couple of hears.

They ar very reliable.

The battery in them seems to last a  very long time.  I mean  probably a year or 2 at least.

It’s not like you have to put in new or recharged batteries every month or so.

Also, most printers and scanners now come with the wireless option.

A wireless keyboard and mouse  may cost 20 or 30 u s dollars and up.

Hi Janet,  you can buy wireless keyboards, mice, speakers, printers and scanner and speakers  which cost little more than the wired ones.

You can likely  get rid of all the computer cables except the power cord.

Hi John,

Thank you so much for this.  I don’t want an old processor though.  I am seeing just how expensive Windows 11 is.  Maybe because Windows 11 is new.  But, if I could at least get Windows ten, and use that for a couple years, and then download Windows 11 on the Windows ten, but that doesn’t look like it’s going to happen right now, and I want a desktop now, as I just can’t stand this Laptop

Well,

So is that the highest you can go in price?

Or are you willing to make a cut somewhere.

The nearest to what you wanted I could find was 16GB of ram , 512GB SSD, but the processor is pretty old by now a 6th generation core I7.

It’d run Windows 10 for 5 years just fine but Windows 11 you’d be out of luck.

Its $649 on Best Buy and the next one up is higher than your price bracit.

HP Refurbished ProDesk 600 G3 Desktop Intel Core i7 16GB Memory 512GB SSD Black 600 G3-SFF - Best Buy

It is for sure not an all-in one but is an SFF.

Gene,

and that isn’t even including the taxes.

I would love not to have the tower.  As far as the miniaturization, I’m fine with that, as all that comes with the computer is the monitor and the keyboard.  Best Buy said if need be, they work on these computers the same way as if the computer had a tower.  Although, the keyboard didn’t have a application key, as it had a FN key on each side of the space bar.   I asked them what happened to the application key, they said they never heard of an application key on any keyboard.  I know there is another way to use the application if the keyboard didn’t have

one, but I don’t remember what that is.  They didn’t have any Windows 11 for $699 , other than some Windows ten with very little ram,  I just can’t see myself paying that much!  LOL!  I do have my keyboard from Windows 7, but I still can’t stand that Laptop,

How important is no tower?  I haven’t seen the kind of computer you are discussing, but I’ve seen brief discussions of them off and on.  Based on what you say, you may be paying a lot for miniaturization.

Also, I hope others discuss repair, if it becomes necessary.  Is it practical to repair such machines?

I would think that, on sale, you could get a machine for six hundred dollars, perhaps less that would meet your needs.  Do you actually want two computers or do you want a desktop since you no longer have one?  If you get an external keyboard, you can operate your laptop as though it were a desktop.

Yes, he puts Jaws or NVDA, and if you like he'll put both on any system you buy.  As far as labeling the computers he sells, that's something the buyer would have to ask for themselves.  I haven't had this need, so I've never asked him any type of labeling questions.

He's very accommodating, but everyone has their limits.

Gen 5 huh?

Ok  so that  means it’s a  Broadwell chip.

SO unless its an I3 you shouldn’t have problem.

So which processor in the Broadwell family do you got?

Hi Mike,

Ok now, this is good to hear, as this gives me something more to think about.  Maybe my Laptop needs more ram, as I think my processor is gen 5.  I need to check to be for sure.

The computer may be underpowered or there may be something wrong with it.  Whether you buy another laptop or not, there are a lot of laptops that perform very well.

I don’t know whether some of your problems are that you don’t like the keyboard and some may be that the computer is underpowered.  There is no reason, from a performance standpoint, leaving aside the keyboard, that a laptop needs to be slow and a lot aren’t.

John,

I hate the Laptop because I have to pound the hell out of the keys in order to get to type.  The Laptop is so sluggish and slow, and this is rather I’m using NVDA or JAWS.  I bought this Laptop in Jan of this year, and it is just to dang slow, it drives me crazy.  Although, I will keep it even after I get a desktop just for a backup.  Chances of me ever buying another Laptop are very slim!  LOL!  But I am used to using a desktop, so I’m not sure if that is why I am having a very difficult time with this dang thing.

Why do you hate the laptop so much?

Also its called an All-in-one.

You can find Windows 11 towers on  Bestbuy.com and other places.

Gene,

I couldn’t find any desktops for Windows Ten other than  ram being only I3, and I don’t want that.  I’m not for sure if all the Windows 11 machines are not going to have the towers anymore, but Wow, that sure is nice.  I think if it needed to be worked on, it wouldn’t be that difficult       to take it to Best Buy.  I even asked at Best Buy yesterday if they could take a look at my Windows 7, and they said they don’t go to the house to repair computers anymore, and that people will need to bring the computer in for repair.  I can’t stand using this Laptop in which I just bought last Jan of this year.

Hi Janet,

If the keyboard you buy is to be used with a USB dongle it'll come with the dongle.  I don't know if they can be purchased separtely, that all depends on the manufacturer.  I don't know if an after market dongle could be used either, that again would depend on the manufacturer.  I know for a fact as an example, the H800 Logitech headset can't be used with an after market dongle and you can't even buy a replacement from Logitech, you would have to buy another headset if you lost your dongle.

Back to keyboards, I don't have enough experience with them to comment any further, but your questions would be good ones to ask from forums of the brand / model of keyboard you decide to buy.

Hi Mike,

Well, this is something to think about now, meaning using a Dongle as oppose to using Bluetooth. I haven’t heard of Dongles for some years.  I will most definitely keep this in mind.  Is there a certain size, or is it any USB Dongle?

Janet,

One thing I would do is if I was going to use a wireless keyboard is get one that uses a USB dongle.  They seem to have almost zero latency and for me anyways just out perform the bluetooth models.

I have neverf seen any info about portlabeling.  These days,  just about everything is a usb or  s d card port, of course, the usb c is different from the other usb ports,    so you cannot mix them uppppppppppppppppppppp.

I was thinking of an SSD for her .

Not a spinning drive.

Really you can tell the difference.

Subject: [TechTalk] Windows 11 Question Please.

Gene,

Hello,

I have been using a wireless keyboard,  and there is also a mouse for my husband,  for 16 years.  They have served us well for all this time.

One question though.  When does a keyboard become outdated or incompatible with the tower or screen?  Is there a rule of thumb about replacing the keyboard besides condition or looks or just because you want to?

The computer may be underpowered or there may be something wrong with it.  Whether you buy another laptop or not, there are a lot of laptops that perform very well.

I don’t know whether some of your problems are that you don’t like the keyboard and some may be that the computer is underpowered.  There is no reason, from a performance standpoint, leaving aside the keyboard, that a laptop needs to be slow and a lot aren’t.

One thing I would do is if I was going to use a wireless keyboard is get one that uses a USB dongle.  They seem to have almost zero latency and for me anyways just out perform the bluetooth models.

Gene,

and that isn’t even including the taxes.

Subject: [TechTalk] Windows 11 Question Please.

Janet
