Verizon Fios

Hey all,

So I’m going to be getting rid of Comcast in 6 months or so, am I am curious about FIOS TV from Verizon. I’m getting Verizon so I have symmetrical speeds.

Do they have an app for the TV watching for smartphones like Comcast does?

Do they  also have a disability answer desk too?

Has anyone used the FIOS app  for account access, paying bills, checking internet outages controlling Wi-Fi etc.?

If so how accessible are these apps on android or iOS?

Thanks,

John

Re: a jaws-friendly hard drive tester?

Thomas N. Chan

chkdsk does record in the event viewer of windows.
The following articles will tell you how despite its referring to windows 10 but it should work well in windows 7.
https://windowsreport.com/chkdsk-logs-windows-10/

My take on this is simple, window NT is very different from older windows like 98 as it does not have DOS or other OS to boot itself up
so, chkdsk will not run in windows, even if you can get those apps which you can find online, it's not going to work in windows properly itself. as there is mounting or dismounting involvement of files and system files etc.

if you think your harddrive is faulty or failing, rather than finding ways to look at those logs, then just get it replaced.
Even if you did look at the logs, and then find out there's really an error, you still need to replace it.
I feel that harddrive is rather affordable, so if you can replace it yourself, then go for it. if not, you need someone to do it, you still need to do it eventually

I'm thinking that simply running CHKDSK does not correct any errors.  One must add the appropriate command line options to make the program do anything.

I don’t know what leads you to believe that the hard drive has errors.  If you repeatedly run check Disk and you still have problems possibly attributable to the hard drive, then the drive may not be reliable.  Check Disk corrects the errors it can and if it can, it moves data out of bad sectors to good ones.  Ongoing hard drive errors suggests continuing degredation of the hard drive.

But not knowing what problems you have had in the past, I wouldn’t assume the hard drive is the problem.  Memory problems can cause corruption.  Perhaps other things I am not aware of.

I know this desktop is pretty old; in fact it was a refurb when I got it a couple years back and I feel like the hard drive has always had some errors. But when I sent out an email a few minutes ago there was a message referring to a possible corrupt database. I know there's check disk and sfc /scannow, but when you restart to run check disk it doesn't tell you what it found when the computer starts after the check. I'm using windows 7 and jaws 2019. Is there a good and thorough hard drive checker that gives the results so you can hear the results using jaws? I know some of these are graphical and unclear as far as showing results, so I hope there's a good one available so I can see what's possibly wrong.

Olusegun,

I had cataract surgery in 08or 09.
After that I could still see enough to walk without a cane and buy
groceries, but I started wearing very dark sunglasses because the light
was too strong.

I'll be seeing the quartermaster soon and will make sure he is aware of

No they are essentially headphones in the shape of sun glasses. The sound
comes out of each arm, or whatever they're called, and it is directed
towards your ears. They're great for navigating because you have your ears
clear, but they don't have any base to speak of. Music is ok if you are just
walking around and want tunes in the background, but if you really want a
nice experience while listening to music these aren't the way to go, at
least in my opinion and others will disagree. I'm fussy when it comes to my
music as is apparent by the plethora of Sonos speakers throughout my house

Popping in Outlook has been resolved✌

Sugar

Hi friends

As Mike asked, here is what a good friend of mine who works with Sparrow did. she tandem just now and the instructions are below.

This totally removed that annoying popping noise.🎉

in my outlook.

Note that I do not have 365 and it still worked for me.

For the top and bottom tones, this indeed is a bug.

I also had a issue with my contacts, Jaws 22 was not reading my contacts and this to has been reported. Most likely it will be fixed soon.

Thanks

Sugar

I have some steps to try to solve.

Please give me a fewSteps for removing auto complete sounds in MS outlook 365:
#1 Open MS outlook.
#2 Press Insert+6 to create a configuration file for MS outlook.  Press CTRL+S to save the file.
#3 Now switch to the JAWS window.
#4 Alt+U for the Utilities menu, select Explore Utilities folder.
#5  Press   E until you hear Explore my settings.
#6  Open outlook.jcf with notepad and paste the following text to the end of the file :

[NonJCFOptions]
;  sounds for when autocomplete list appears and disappears,
;  for message header fields when entering contacts.
AutoCompleteListEnterSound=1OutlookAutocompleteEnterSound.wav
AutoCompleteListExitSound=1OutlookAutocompleteExitSound.wav

#7 Save the file and restart JAWS.

Hi. I have a pair of the Bose Tempos and absolutely love them. Podcasts and music sound quite good considering the size of the speaker drivers. Music sounds fuller than what you might think on a BlueTooth pair of sun glasses. The Tempos have a longer battery life than the other models which is why I decided on that model. They are expensive but last longer and sound better than other brands and models I have personally tried. Good luck.

Warmest regards

Hi all,

If any of you have the Bose bluetooth sunglasses, I know music sounds good but what about podcasts for example? I'm debating on buying a pair, and I'd probably listen to music a good bit with them but my main thing that I'd be doing with them for now is listening to old-time radio shows playing from an app on my phone while I'm walking on my treadmill.

I know that not everybody listens to old-time radio, but since they are mostly voice as are podcasts I thought I might be able to get a good idea if the glasses are something I'd like by knowing what podcasts sound like. Right now I have a neck speaker hanging around my neck when I'm on the treadmill with my ears uncovered, and sometimes I can hear what I'm listening to and sometimes I can't and that's with the volume of the phone and the volume of the speaker around my neck both set at maximum.

Thanks in advance for any comments.

Here's the Alto pair for about $199; check it out here:

Before doing the math, please go check them out at Bestbuy or Microcenter.
Other flavors include Tenor, Soprano, and Rondo.

And, I'll tell Santa not to get out the sleds yet, I can wait my turn. Fun

Olusegun, Santa won't be leaving any of these sunglasses at my house. I almost had a heart attack when I saw the price of $250+/- per pair. I was hoping $125 max, because they would serve two purposes for my 11yr old son, sunglasses & bluetooth to connect to his Apple watch. For me to pay $250 there better be a weekly maid to come clean up his room included.

outlook account/contacts issues

Madison Martin

Hi all,
Not sure if any of these issues can be fixed, but I figured I'd ask since you guys have helped me out before. I created an outlook.com account on Monday and since Tuesday I've had some issues that I'd like fixed. I have a bunch of old messages that I've kept and when I imported everything they were in my inbox, but yesterday I looked and I noticed that the oldest message that was there was from a year ago, but I had ones from 2018, 2019 and earlier in 2020. I also have 5 folders within my inbox and I noticed yesterday that all of the messages that were in one of the folders were gone as well. Any idea what could've happened to all of these messages between when I imported everything and yesterday, and also is there any way I might be able to get them back? Before anyone asks/assumes I didn't delete any of them, if I was going to do that I would've done that before I imported stuff. I don't look at any of these messages regularly, but I kept them just in case I ever needed/wanted to refer back to any of the info in any of them. Now when I imported all of my contacts I got some message saying that they couldn't be imported into this folder (the contacts one in outlook that comes up when you press control 3) so they'd be placed in another folder with the same name and that got put up where the sent and junk folders and those sorts of folders are. So I went into it and I was able to read through my contacts, but I wasn't able to do anything with them, like delete or edit any of them. Any idea why I might've gotten this message and if there's any way that I can get my contacts back into the normal contacts folder so that I can do stuff with them again when I need/want too? Now this account isn't an imap account like my other two accounts are, it's a Microsoft exchange account, I didn't ask for it to be created like this, it's just how it happened, could this explain any of my issues? I'd love to have it be an imap account, but not sure if it's possible to change this and even if it is I don't know how to do it. I'm using the latest versions of Jaws, Office 365 and Windows 10. Really hope there's something that can be done to help me, any help/suggestions will be greatly appreciated!!!!! Thanks Madison

Hi Troy.

I had a pair. The battery died after less than two years sadly.

Personally I don't think they really sound good for music. My reason for buying them was to use with GPS apps as they do not cover the ears. If I were you I'd consider the air pods pro. They sound much better.
