another drive snap shot question

Matt

Well had a 16 GB USB drive for my image backup and it was not big enough! So the question is how can I tell what size storage I need?  It don’t seem to tell you in drive snap shot.

Thanks,

Re: problem updating windows 7

@KM

This has been going on for quite some time since window 10 was being tested it seemed. Mostly because their techs are more for 10 fixes then to worry about 7. However there is a fix to this issue. What the problem is  Window Update Agent being out of date and or  Graphics.  I had this happen in Aug. But after I did what these individuals stated from Microsoft Forum which are not the staff of Microsoft by the way, I have had no issues. Just tried today even though the new updates aren't out yet for Oct. Worked fine.

But this is what you must do in order for it to kick start.

1. You have to first go into window update Settings. Change the settings to Never... and reboot so the settings are set.

2. I was told to really make sure that nothing is running in window update to type Service in search. Click on that then scroll down to window update and double click. This opens up a window. General tab should be up. Click on Stop. and then make sure it says Manual it's above stop. Apply and click OK...

After you do that go to this link to get which update downloads you need. This is for Sept it seemed. It does work if you do all the steps. It's easy. I also keep my updates now set for Never and just check it myself instead of it telling me updates are ready. But that's me.

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-update/windows-7-update-solution/f39a65fa-9d10-42e7-9bc0-7f5096b36d0c

here's the other link too. I would suggest to bookmark this because they have been keeping up since April. Just in case you need to do the same thing down the road.

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-update/windows-7-update-problems-read-this-first/28147a5f-b0b0-480b-bed9-834a2da7a375?page=25

I also suggest that anybody having windows 7 to bookmark these links. For it seems microsoft even though they know the issues haven't fixed the problem.

Hi Jean!  I'm having the same issue that you are.  I cannot get Windows 7 updates to install or download.  It will say 0 percent for hours, and then finally give me an error message.  I will get the option to retry.  When I do, I go through the same process again.  No updates are ever installed.  Not sure why this is happening, but it is definitely frustrating.

Well, if you're the cautious type then it might be worthwhile.  I personally don't bother since it just takes longer and I have never experienced a corrupted image.  Most imaging applications are smart enough to detect if something has gone wrong during the imaging process without this additional step.  Although if I were imaging someone else's machine in a professional capacity, I would always test/verify the image.

Re: some questions on W10

It works I guess something was wrong with my W10 stopping this from working on it ! I had to wipe the drive and reinstall windows on it as my num pad stop working and parts of my other keyboard as well as other problems. I tried another keyboard and the same thing . Never could get either keyboards to work right. But it is all good now! Got a good fresh copy of windows on the drive and it is working much better! It is pain to reinstall windows! Better than it used to be but still needs a lot of work done on it. I just cannot understand why MS don’t make it like Apple so it can be done completely with narrator.

You can save the image anywhere.  A separate partition on the same drive is fine, but an external drive is always a better choice for storing images.

But it sounds as if the concern is being automatically upgraded which is not possible since the free upgrade is no longer available for non-disabled users. In fact, I can't recall the KB number at the moment, but an update was recently released which removes all updates associated with the free upgrade.

There are 69 optional updates.

I am about to install Nod32 which is very picky about having Windows 7 updated before it will install.

My question is this.

Does anyone have a list of Windows 7 updates associated with Windows 10 automatic install to avoid so I don't have to go through all 69 updates and look them up?

I'm sure there are some I will need to install.

If not a list, is there a resource page where I can get a list of the updates to avoid or will those updates automatically not update, even if they are checked because I have the never get Windows 10 EXE enabled?

Hope this makes sense.

Since there has been interest expressed today in using the older version of Windows Live mail, here is a presentation I did for Accessible World a number of years ago on that version of the program.  the information still applies since this is the old version being discussed.  However, over the years, it may be that support for autocomplete has been added for one screen-reader or another.  But if it isn't available for whatever screen-reader is being used, or even if it is, the way I teach of working with contacts may be a method you prefer or prefer at times.

The presentation also includes Thunderbird but, as I recall, I discuss Windows Live mail first.

Re: image backup

Of course there are other imaging solutions including the Windows native System Image tool and some free programs, but none of them will allow you to restore an image on the next reboot like Drive Snapshot.  Very few even other paid imaging solutions have this capability.  With most other imaging solutions, you have to boot into another environment to restore images.

Ok, but don’t think in my case this is an option as I looked at the price and it is just way more money then I want to spend.

So you have some other suggestions? What about W10 does it have a backup image software?

Also have you or anyone else used like a cloud image backup and how well does something like that work?

The program is completely accessible, but after the reboot while the image is being restored you will not have speech.  However, the image is automatically restored without any interaction so speech is not required.  Just make sure to select the option to have the computer reboot after the image is restored.

Now with drive snap shot do you lose speech at any time other than the reboot of the machine? Just how accessible is it with jaws17 thru the process?

Pretty much any modern imaging software designed for Windows can run within Windows to create images.  To restore images, no imaging software can run within Windows.  The closest are some imaging applications like Drive Snapshot

which can restore an image on the next reboot so perhaps that is what you are thinking of since I don't remember anything with the word "drop" in its name.
