Re: Program Manager In Windows 7
Michael Mote
Mike, this used to come up on my computer all the time. In my case, the program manager window was coming up because Windows was freezing up on me. I determined that it was a memory issue, and that I didn’t have enough in my system to run all of the processes that I wanted to run. You may want to consider stopping some of the processes, and the applications that start when the computer boots up. Go into the Msconfig area, and look at what is starting up. If you can disable some of these programs, it may help in performance. Generally, I disable anything that says Manager or helper next to it. You would be surprised as to how many things start up that are not necessary. Also, you may consider stopping Windows from Indexing files. This happens in the background, and makes it easier to search for things like messages in your email. Hope this helps!

Hi All,
I was helping someone via Tandem earlier today, & it seemed like everytime you went somewhere on her computer the damn Program Manager window would get in the way. She told me that most of the time when this window pops up that she can't get away / out of it, & has to reboot her computer. Is there a setting in msconfig, Administrative Tools / Services, or anywhere else that can be changed to get rid of this pain in the ass window? She's running Windows 7 & Jaws 16 / 17. All input will be greatly appreciated. Thanks much. Take care.

If yes, please send me a safe download link. Can it be used with windows 7? Is it accessible with JAWS?

Re: making winamp the default player for all music
Carlos
1. While Winamp is running, press Control+P to open the preferences.
2. Press the letter F until you hear
"File Types"
3. Tab to the list of associated file types.
4. Navigate through the list using the arrow keys and check the file
extensions you want to be opened with Winamp using the Spacebar.
Alternatively, you can tab to the
"All"
button and select it. This will associate all of the file
extensions in the list with Winamp. You might also want to enable the
"Restore file associations on Winamp
start"
checkbox.
5. Tab to the
"Close"
button and select it to save the changes and exit the preferences
dialog.

Hi All,
Earlier today I clicked on an audio file that
opened windows media player to play, sorry I didn't notice the extension of the
file but I had to do some setting up of windows media before the file would
play. I just tried to play an mp3 file and it also played in windows

again? Btw this is windows 7.
Thanks.

Hi Carlos,
Before I can get to Settings /
Accounts I have to click on,Link,
Add Gmail, Outlook, AOL and
more
Then I can navigate to Settings &
Accounts, / my email, but I don't get an option for POP3 here,
"Access your Yahoo Mail elsewhere" |
If I left mouse click this line my
wife tells me that the line turns colors, but doesn't show anything
regarding POP3. I assumed that it turning colors might mean that it
selected it so, I saved it, but still get the dialogue box to enter my password
when I open that identity in OE. Any suggestions? Thanks
much.

Yahoo account going for my wife & told me that Firefox had to be used to get
to that option. This friend had surgery yesterday & won't be available

better. I'll let you know if I have any success beforehand.

Re: Spoof email messages and eloquence

But you didn't explain why you did this. You
just said people can do it. Many people, like me, don't care whether
someone is trying to crash the synthesizer. We just don't want to be
bothered with it one way or another. If you are going to recommend an
action and you know of an alternative such as the one I gave, it is misleading
to cause people to believe that spoken text must be present in the pronounced as
field by omission.
If you want to have something spoken, that's your
choice. But when advising people, it should not be described as though it
were, by implication, necessary.

If you want something not to be spoken, just place one space in the pronounced as field. There is no need to have a text string such as you describe in the pronounced as field.
However, if you do add the problem strings to the dictionary, when moving up and down in the list of words in the dictionary list, the string will attempt to be spoken. Therefore, avoid moving to those words unless you switch synthesizers first. I don't recall if I ever tried this, but switching synthesizers should allow you to move to one of these character strings without problems. I haven't played around enough to know if moving very quickly will work. You could move from the end of the list up or move from the top of the list down and stop before you get to the character string. or you could switch synthesizers before working in the word list. Then, when you have found the word you want to edit, as long as it isn't one of the crash strings, switch back to Eloquence so you can edit it or remove it or whatever. If you edit it, you will then know how Eloquence will pronounce the replacement string.

A work-around I’ve used is to add the offending string of text to the Jawws dictionary manager and replace it with something like Jaws crash word or something along those lines. I select eloquence as the pronunciation synth and that takes care of it for the future. This I do using an alternative synth. Vocalizer expressive for example.

there is a regular expression built in to the code of the Eloquence driver for NVDA that specifically keeps those codes from getting to Eloquence itself.

Good evening, listers, Brian Zolo here, Bryan Carter’s correct address is BCarver@.... The b and the c are both upper case. If anyone can send the exact character string that is crashing eloquence it would really help. Right now I’m using Vocalizer Tom and once I upgrade to windows ten and jaws 18 I will go with the new vocalizer voices. The new generation of Vocalizer voices sounds quite natural but speech is very subjective. I have some hearing loss and in that sense Eloquence is still the most hearable for me especially as I like to have my speech at high speed. I apologize for the incorrect email address I provided last evening. Have a great day and a great weekend1 bZ1

Hi Group,
I really hope Freedom Scientific comes up with a permanent solution. I am using Eloquence with NVDA and the same strings that are crashing JAWS are not crashing NVDA with Eloquence. This makes me believe that the crashes are caused by some kind of interface between JAWS and Eloquence--not Eloquence itself.

There's a handy new keyboard shortcut, the semicolon, to access Yahoo Mail Settings so you can choose the view (basic or full featured) you prefer. Switching doesn't affect your email messages, only the way they're displayed and the number of commands and options you're presented with. Just log into Yahoo Mail as you always do, press the semicolon key to access the Mail Settings, choose "Mail Version," then either "Full-Featured" or "Basic." Repeat the same steps to switch back at any time. Screen reader users should follow the steps below to prevent the screen reader from intercepting the Yahoo Mail Settings keyboard shortcut: 1. Log into your Yahoo Mail account; 2. Adjust your Screen Reader as necessary: a. Using NVDA, press Insert-Spacebar to enter "focus" mode"; b. Using JAWS, press Insert-Z to turn off the JAWS virtual cursor; c. Using VoiceOver, press the left and right arrows simultaneously to turn Quick Nav off; 3. Press semicolon to access Yahoo Mail Settings; 4. Press the Tab key several times until you hear "Mail Version" then press the Down arrow key to check (select) Full-Featured or Basic radio button; 5.
