Though they are different programs, there must be a lot of connection in the code. They sound either identical or almost identical.

even if the 20 or so year old IBM software were modified, I don't think that a quart is really going to care if a handful of blind people are using some 20-year-old software which has been slightly modified to work with modern computer systems. they would probably just laugh at you, throw the case out, and not care. if I were a judge on a court, that's what I would do. Now if this were sighted people pirating some kind of major piece of software then it would be a different story. for example if if vocalizer were pirated by a bunch of people who could see or some other modern currently sold speech software then yes that would be a big deal. A handful of blind people modifying and using some 20-year-old or 23 or 24-year-old piece of speech software I really don't think a quart is going to care. yes using eloquence illegally is illegal because code factory currently sells it. But IBM via voice, I think that may be a different matter because it is considered a separate product. For example, you can easily get a hold of homepage reader from the Internet archive and get a hold of IBM via voice. Even though homepage reader would be a demo, via voice is not a demo. There are also other places where you can get IBM via voice speech software from 1998 or 1999 or so. I am pretty sure that IBM via voice is considered or was considered a separate product from eloquence. JAWS uses eloquence, it does not use via voice.

I use a small Word Processor called Jarte. It is very simple and works well with my Screen Readers.

If you are interested, you can find it at www.jarte.com

It is Free unless you wanted a slightly more feature filled version which will cost you $29.

The only thing I see as a negitive is that this Word Processor does not Save files in MS Words newest format. Which doesn't matter to me, but it might to you.

You likely got a machine you will be satisfied with. You aren't doing demanding things. I sent you another message before I saw yours. I don’t know if you want to consider Computers for the blind or if you want to get what you purchased.

I hope you give the list more time to discuss a question like this in future. The list had just started discussing it. People hadn't ignored the question, they just started discussing it over a number of hours rather than sending a lot of messages right away.

I didn't mean to ask for Word Processor, I meant to ask for Processor of the Laptop I was wanting to buy, I will be doing basic editing, using email, surfing the internet, using Zoom, but all of this is pretty basic I think. Smile. I just bought a Lenovo, I hope it is right, as it sounded pretty good to me. I thought $499 sounded pretty good, as I searched and search myself, and had other people searching, and all the Laptops were quite exspensive. That is why I sent a couple messages out to the list, but didn't get any advice is what kind of Laptop to buy.

Do you just want to do rather simple work or do you want more complex
abilities? I suspect that in general, word processors manufacturers put on
Windows machines are free, and maybe open source. Microsoft used to have a
starter version of Word for Windows 7 that manufacturers could put on but
they haven't had anything of the sort for a long time.

If you tell us what you want to do, you might get better tailored
suggestions There are many free word processors to choose from and I
wouldn't buy a computer based on what may be included if you can get a
better laptop at a cheaper price without one or with a different one than
people like. JARTE is a good one. Open Office and Libre Office may be good
ones. Others will have to comment on that. You can install all of them
yourself. Even if you aren't comfortable installing programs, you may be
able to get enough help from the list to allow you to do so.

Re: Word Processor Suggestions Help Please.

We don't know how you use your computer, but if you use it for purposes like streaming, e-mail, browsing, word processing and other undemanding uses, you don't need more than a moderately powerful machine.

I don't know how tight your money situation is or if you want to likely save hundreds of dollars while getting a satisfactory machine but you may want to consider a machine from Computers for the blind. They sell refurbished machines and I believe laptops sell for about 150 dollars.

Of course, it won't be a really fast machine, but it should be fast enough to satisfy people unless they really want a machine that does things like open programs quickly and other things like convert files from one format to another quickly. But for a lot of people, most of the time they spend on a computer is in working with a program such as in reading and writing e-mails and the time savings is unimportant.

I don't care that my e-mail program takes perhaps five seconds to open my e-mail program and perhaps three or four seconds to open my browser. If I spend twenty minutes going to and reading web pages, what difference does four or five seconds make?

For me, is good to have them around next to you instead of you need to find it.
Like example of mine, when I am moving bulky items for your friends in your friend's house.
You need two hands to do the job and then eventually, I need to go and get lunch after you move those stuff in or lunchbreak.
Its silly to leave it somewhere and you might trip it and drop it somewhere and you need to find it eventually.
Its just a accessories for someone. It might suit for me or most of us and it might not be for everyone.

This actually isn't the first time we've had something like this happen either, before I bought the thermometer we have now we had another one that didn't work when we tried to use it after a while of not needing it.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions, I don't know if these thermometers need to be stored a certain way so they don't get messed up or what.

I've never used Narator, but that would seem to make sense. When my sister got
her Lenovo Narator seemed to be on already, but she's fully sighted so she
didn't need it. Too bad they couldn't help you set it up, it sounds like you're
worried about doing it on your own. I don't blame you, I would be too. Good
luck!!!!

I'm getting it from Best Buy, and it will be delivered on Jan 05-2021. I can't
wait to get it! That is the only date they had, and even if I wanted to pick it
up, I would have to wait until Jan 07-2021, so I took the delivery date. Some
people say to just turn on Narrator, and follow the steps. Is this right?

Hi Janet,
Where are you getting your laptop from? I didn't have to set up mine on my own,
the store where we got it from did it for me. I might be able to help you with
setting up Jaws, are you using Jaws now?

Hi,
Yes, the Lenovos do sound pretty good, and I like the light weight. I won't be
using the touch screen either, but I didn't have to pay for the touch screen, as
it already came with the Laptop. I will be using my Lenovo for basic things as
well. I'm a little nervous about setting it up myself though.

Hi Janit,
I have a Linovo, and I love it!!!!! It's not a touch screen, but even if it was
I wouldn't use it. It's fast, has good speakers, small, lightweight, and easy to
use!!!! Then again I use my computer for pretty basic stuff, emails, Internet
browsing and such, so I don't want/need a real fancy or high-end laptop.
Congrads on your purchase, I hope you'll be happy with it and don't have too
many (or better yet no) issues and that it lasts you a long time!!!!!

Hi David and All,
David this is so true what you are saying, and I didn't mean to say a Word
Processor though, but to say a Processor for the Laptop I was wanting to buy. I
don't really need a Word Processor, as I will only be doing some basic editing.
Thank you for this clarification. I don't know as much about computers as I
would like to. So, you just tought me something. I bought a Lenovo - IdeaPad 3
15" Touch Screen Laptop - Intel Core i5-1035G1 - 12GB Memory - 256GB SSD -
Platinum Grey. I won't use the touch screen though, it came with the Laptop.

Janet,
There is a difference between a word processor used for writing and editing
documents as opposed to a processor in a computer which can determine its
overall speed and performance. Which term are you wanting more information

Hi Everyone,
I am wanting to buy a Windows Laptop, but I don't know what to look for in a
good Word Processor though, as I've noticed some Laptops have different
processors in them, so I'm not for sure what to look for.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have no idea why your thermometer wouldn't work.  Can you contact the company and let them know?  If it's not going to work, they should give you a new one or a credit of some sort.  You should try ordering one from the NFB store in Maryland.  I just ordered mine from there a few weeks ago.  A friend of mine told me about it and she said it works very well.  If it doesn't work, you can let them know and they will tell you what to do.  Mine looks like a gun and you don't touch the person with it.  You need to get somewhat close to their forehead so you can get a reading. Hope this helps.
