Gmail and WLM question

Marie <magpie.mn@...>

I am trying to set up a new gmail account in WLM (Windows 8.1 and Jaws 16) using the imap protocol. Gmail will not allow me to sign in because it says this program (WLM) is not secure and that I must go to my account and change the security setting to allow this program access. I have spent an hour trying to find out how to accomplish this with no luck whatsoever. This seems to be a new problem with Gmail and it is making me crazy. I had the same notice when I tried to use Windows Mail a couple of week ago but the email telling me the problem also had a link to follow to make the change. Now the warning email no longer includes the link and I can not locate it on the web site. Please can someone with more tech savvy help me out ?
Marie

how is everybody doing with Windows 10 and Word 2013?

Beth

Hi, list peeps.
So regarding Windows 10 and Word 2013? At this rate, I'm loving the template thingies it has, just imagine me writing flyers with it. The templates seem helpful. As for me, my laptop rocks, and I was able to go between sound cards. So yeah, it's great to have a great sound card interface that doesn't require so many installations from the outside of drivers. That's the cool thing about 10, the driver thingies are even more P&P. So before I go any further, bon voyage. Have fun, yall, I have a big weekend ahead of me.

Carlos,

I'm running windows 7 with IE 11 here so from what you just said either of those might be the problem.  I'll check if my flash is updated though and then will reload the page and wait and see if it eventually loads.  Thanks.

Hi Troy,
At least for me, it takes a few seconds for the page to completely load, but after that I can see edit fields for entering your user name, password, and the
"Log In"
button.  If you don't see these controls after a few seconds, the only recommendation I have at the moment is to try updating flash player since even the log in interface uses it.  Also, what version of Windows are you running?  Again at least for me, there is a more serious problem with the site after logging in with JAWS 16 on Windows 7 where it does not see the flash interface at all.  This issue does not occur with JAWS 15 on Windows 7 nor does it occur with JAWS 16 on Windows 10.  Although Windows 10 includes IE 11 by default as where I am still running IE 10 on 7 so it is possible that may be the differing factor causing the problem, but I haven't experimented with IE 11 on 7 to verify this possibility.

Hi All,

I went to sirius xm dot com earlier in the week and created an account so I can listen online through my computer, but when I try to go to https://www.siriusxm.com/legacyplayer/#view=login it's like the page never completely loads because all I can ever get Jaws 16 to say is Sirius xm log-in, that's the only line there.  I get more if I use the Jaws cursor, but there are no edit fields and no amount of clicking on anything opens anything else up.  Help please?

Btw after doing what I did I received 2 e-mails, one thanking me for registering my xm account with the online center and the other thanking me for selecting a new subscription.  In the second e-mail though it tells me that if my radio isn't receiving service it tells me how to get my signal refreshed.  I do still have 2 receivers, one at home and one in the car, and if I can ever get the online feeds I may eventually get rid of my home unit but I'll be keeping the one for the car.  So because of what it says in the second e-mail I'm not even sure that I've done what needs to be done to accomplish what I'm trying to do.

I'd lean more towards thinking that it's something on your company's end

TweetList4 was hands down my favorite Twitter client, but all indications point to it having been abandoned a while back. I still have it on my phone on the off chance the devs ever put out an update, but it’s doutful . I also use it for managing lists as I still find this part with TweetList4 the easiest to use in this regard.

There are more and more features though where TweetList4 simply doesn’t support and it’s really just a matter of time before it breaks all together. A real bummer.

Re: Sirius xm dot com and screen readers

this may vary depending on the browser and screen-reader used.  Try the following.  I have no idea if it will work but using firefox and JAWS, the following worked.  Not all these steps may be necessary but I haven't played enough to isolate the unnecessary ones, if there are any.
Go to the page.
Wait a little.
turn off the virtual pc cursor with JAWS key z.
Open the menus with alt.
Then cloce them with escape.
Turn the virtual pc cursor on again with the same command, JAWS key z.
Try tabbing and see if you can tab around the login screen and move to the fields.

This is with an older version of JAWS, JAWS 14.  You can see what happens when you experiment.

Hi all
iOS 9 sports a brand new News app which allows you to read the news straight

from your device. But there is a catch. While it is available in the US, UK

and Australia initially, you have to change your device's region to United
States. To do this:

1. Open Settings > general > language and region.

2. Double tap region and double tap on "United States" in the long list of
countries. You may want to use your rotor and set it to headings so you can

jump to the letter quickly and easily.

3. Double tap the "done" button, and reboot your device when prompted.

I've just done this on my iPhone 5s, and now have the News app. It is
completely accessible with VoiceOver.

Happy reading!

Afternoon everyone!

Listen just letting you know that I'm going to redo my SpeakOn podcast.

The reason is since I did the last ones which I've put in the public folder, there have been quite a few changes.
So I'm going to my friends ChrisEngland and Claire Henson's place in Westhoughton outside Bolton, but will do it when I get home.
More than lightly on Sunday.

So what I'm going to do is remove them from the public folder and my own folder, will share the new ones when I've done them.

Just letting you all know.
Take care.
Speak soon!

Re: Pop vs Imap

Norman

Hi.
Actually, if you move the folders into the imap account they will upload to the server.
What will happen when you create an imap account is you will get an additional folder that most likely is named the same as your email address.
If you expand this folder you will have a subset of folders below it, like inbox, drafts, etc. Just move your folders into this folder and it should upload.

Well, thanks to the great explanations I think I have a pretty good grasp on
imap now.
If I already have folders set up on my email client, will they automatically
be moved to the server if I change to imap from Pop?

Think of it this way. Your mail isn't really being downloaded to your
device. You are working with it on the server.

So if you empty the trash on one device, it is emptied on the server.
If you delete an email from your inbox, it is moved to the trash folder
on the server. When you connect with another device and view your inbox
that email you sent to the trash from the first device won't show up.

If you create a folder you are creating the folder on the server.
Any
mail you move into that folder is of course moved from your inbox on
the server to the newly created folder on the server.

When the other devices view the trash folder there is nothing there as
you emptied it etc.

Hi,
That would depend on your client, you can set them to empty on exit or
do it manually. I used to have my client empty when exiting but I lost
one too many emails that way so I do it manually.
It really doesn't matter if you are using pop or imap in this situation..
With pop the local folder gets emptied with imap the remote folder gets
emptied.

This is correct.
IMAP leaves the emails on the server.
If you delete it from your one computer it is removed from the server.
If you were to go to another machine you wouldn't see your email as it
would be in the trash.

For me the advantage of IMAP is this:
If my computer dies, I need not worry about backing up important emails
as they are still sitting on the server.
Just configure your email client and you have access to all emails.
If you are sending emails from computer 1 and are on computer 2 or your
phone and need to refer to a previously sent message, it is in the sent
folder on your current device.
As soon as you receive a new email it is pushed to you. You need not
set up a schedule or fetch your email, it just arrives.

I started using IMAP in 2011 and wouldn't go back to pop.
These are just my thoughts.

Re: FTP Client Sought

Norman

Hi.
I like a program called winSCP.
https://winscp.net/eng/download.php
Completely accessible and does somethings a little bit better than filezilla IMO.

Hi,
I am looking for an FTP Client other than Filezilla. It does not need to be free. I am using Windows 10 64 bit. I am interested in knowing what the technically minded individuals here are currently using other than filezilla. My antivirus does not seem to agree with that program or any of the sites including the home site. I could make an exception but I thought I would see what else it out there first.

Hi all,

For those testing JAWS 17 public beta: Please note that Microsoft Edge still isn’t usable by JAWS users (please set Internet Explorer or other browser as the default web browser). As of now, the following functionality isn’t there:

·         No virtual cursor.

·         No forms mode of any kind.

·         No links/headings/forms/frames list (for example, if you press JAWS+F7, you’ll be asked to use caret browsing instead).

·         No smart nav (haven’t tested that far, but smart nav assumes you can use navigation commands to navigate a document).

·         Touch cursor may not be reliable in Edge (partly due to some weird and broken UIA coding by Microsoft).

Thanks.

Cheers,

Joseph
