Often Microsoft office will come installed on new computers, but it's usually a 30 day trial. I have not heard of office coming free other than the trial version.

You likely got a machine you will be satisfied with. You aren't doing demanding things. I sent you another message before I saw yours. I don’t know if you want to consider Computers for the blind or if you want to get what you purchased.

I hope you give the list more time to discuss a question like this in future. The list had just started discussing it. People hadn't ignored the question, they just started discussing it over a number of hours rather than sending a lot of messages right away.

Do you just want to do rather simple work or do you want more complex
abilities? I suspect that in general, word processors manufacturers put on
Windows machines are free, and maybe open source. Microsoft used to have a
starter version of Word for Windows 7 that manufacturers could put on but
they haven't had anything of the sort for a long time.

If you tell us what you want to do, you might get better tailored
suggestions There are many free word processors to choose from and I
wouldn't buy a computer based on what may be included if you can get a
better laptop at a cheaper price without one or with a different one than
people like. JARTE is a good one. Open Office and Libre Office may be good
ones. Others will have to comment on that. You can install all of them
yourself. Even if you aren't comfortable installing programs, you may be
able to get enough help from the list to allow you to do so.

We don't know how you use your computer, but if you use it for purposes like streaming, e-mail, browsing, word processing and other undemanding uses, you don't need more than a moderately powerful machine.

I don't know how tight your money situation is or if you want to likely save hundreds of dollars while getting a satisfactory machine but you may want to consider a machine from Computers for the blind. They sell refurbished machines and I believe laptops sell for about 150 dollars.

Of course, it won't be a really fast machine, but it should be fast enough to satisfy people unless they really want a machine that does things like open programs quickly and other things like convert files from one format to another quickly. But for a lot of people, most of the time they spend on a computer is in working with a program such as in reading and writing e-mails and the time savings is unimportant.

I don't care that my e-mail program takes perhaps five seconds to open my e-mail program and perhaps three or four seconds to open my browser. If I spend twenty minutes going to and reading web pages, what difference does four or five seconds make?

For me, is good to have them around next to you instead of you need to find it.
Like example of mine, when I am moving bulky items for your friends in your friend's house.
You need two hands to do the job and then eventually, I need to go and get lunch after you move those stuff in or lunchbreak.
Its silly to leave it somewhere and you might trip it and drop it somewhere and you need to find it eventually.
Its just a accessories for someone. It might suit for me or most of us and it might not be for everyone.

I have a nylon holster that is about 15 years old and it still works. At the
top it has velcro that allows it to loop around my belt. I don’t use it much
anymore but when I do need it, it is really handy. Most times I carry a bag
of some kind with me because of other things I need to carry. I try and
make sure to get bags with pockets on the sides of it that will fit my
cane,.

I've never used Narator, but that would seem to make sense. When my sister got
her Lenovo Narator seemed to be on already, but she's fully sighted so she
didn't need it. Too bad they couldn't help you set it up, it sounds like you're

Yes, the Lenovos do sound pretty good, and I like the light weight. I won't be
using the touch screen either, but I didn't have to pay for the touch screen, as
it already came with the Laptop. I will be using my Lenovo for basic things as

I have no idea why your thermometer wouldn't work.  Can you contact the company and let them know?  If it's not going to work, they should give you a new one or a credit of some sort.  You should try ordering one from the NFB store in Maryland.  I just ordered mine from there a few weeks ago.  A friend of mine told me about it and she said it works very well.  If it doesn't work, you can let them know and they will tell you what to do.  Mine looks like a gun and you don't touch the person with it.  You need to get somewhat close to their forehead so you can get a reading. Hope this helps.

I'm getting it from Best Buy, and it will be delivered on Jan 05-2021. I can't wait to get it! That is the only date they had, and even if I wanted to pick it up, I would have to wait until Jan 07-2021, so I took the delivery date. Some people say to just turn on Narrator, and follow the steps. Is this right?

Jarte is a great word processor that is not as powerful as Word but is certainly more robust than Wordpad. There have been some changes with the Jarte landscape, however. First, Jarte is no longer being developed. Along those lines the Jarte Plus program, which used to cost $20.00, is now free. Therefore, if anybody is interested in using Jarte I would advise downloading Jarte Plus from www.jarte.com while it's still available, considering that we don't know how long the Web site will continue to remain operational.

Do you just want to do rather simple work or do you want more complex abilities? I suspect that in general, word processors manufacturers put on Windows machines are free, and maybe open source. Microsoft used to have a starter version of Word for Windows 7 that manufacturers could put on but they haven't had anything of the sort for a long time.

If you tell us what you want to do, you might get better tailored suggestions There are many free word processors to choose from and I wouldn't buy a computer based on what may be included if you can get a better laptop at a cheaper price without one or with a different one than people like. JARTE is a good one. Open Office and Libre Office may be good ones. Others will have to comment on that. You can install all of them yourself. Even if you aren't comfortable installing programs, you may be able to get enough help from the list to allow you to do so.
