Hi Brian, Just for clerification, I have confirmed 5g signals do exist in
my area for my network. Even without the massive bandwidth, the
lower latency itself will probably result in better quality
improvements. Also, all versions of the IPhone by default include
5g.

TMobile 5g internet review
enes sarıbaş
Hi all,
So I signed up for this service, as soon as I learned of it, and that it was offered in my address area. I would like to share my experiences so that it may be useful for people thinking of trying this out. First of all, the router is an LTE router that can use wi fi and has ethernet ports, which is what I use for pcs. It comes with two screws in a bag, a battery, and the router itself. You need to align the grooves with the groves on the modem to insert the battery, and then you need something larger than a phillips p0 or p1 screw driver to screw the screws in. They give you something with a hole at the end with grooves, but it is basicly for decoration and useless. When setting up the router, you can go to 192.168.2.1 to log into it, using the username and password printed in the rectangular space under the router. As for connection speed,, I get up to 50 mbps average download, and consistantly get above 40 mbps upload constantly. It is important to note that the internet is deprioritized over mobile, so your download speeds may drop sharply sometimes. That explains a speedtest I did, which showed 18 down and 44 mbps up. Compared to AT&T ADSL 18 mbps internet, there is a ping difference of 19 ms for same servers, which isn't much. One thing to note though, TMobile home internet uses virtual IPs, so you will needd to make use of a vpn or something similar to forward ports. All in all, for most ADSL/VDSL connections or satallite, it seems like an easy decision to switch, if cell service is good in your area. The data is also unlimited with no throttling for use. If you are curious what speeds you can get, they are able to tell you this, however I highly suspect they use hardware to limit this, or the cell tower in my area has limited capacity, because my speed always seems to hover around 49 mbps to 50 mbps. Oh alsso, if canceling AT&T DSL, they have a disgusting billing policy, where they bill you in advance, and if you cancel during the period, you don't get a refund for days you won't use. For example, I had more than 14 days remaining on my bill, however, I am still charged, and service can't be stopped until the billing period ends.

Well, just out of curiosity I checked with my internet/cell provider and there is 5g access in my village. Will 4g service get cheaper as a result? Curious George is awake again.

As long as you have a 4G phone, it is compatible with 5G networks, and you are not missing much of anything. Unless you buy into the media hype and want to fork over $700 or more for a 5G IPhone 12, which, shockingly, does not come with a charger and like previous models, does not have a physical home key. But, hey, it's your money.

Going to a 5G device now, when it is obscenely expensive, and where the ability to exploit 5G is limited to a very few locations, seems to me to be a supreme waste. And 3 years is an eternity in the world of technology, and smartphones in particular, and what's Apple's flagship now, will be mid-range in 3 years, and much cheaper. Going to a 5G smartphone now, unless you live in a major metropolitan area, is locking your money up in a frozen asset you cannot even use for its intended purpose. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 2004, Build 19041 Always remember that computers are just glorified light bulbs - they rarely fail in continuous use and usually go pop when turned off and on. ~ Technician with the username Computer Bloke, on Technibble.com

Bryan, I totally agree with you on this one . If I don’t notice a difference and I will have to upgrade the mobile device in five or so years to take advantage of he 5g bands. What’s the point of upgrading now.Ifi will avhe to do it all over again in 5 or so years when 5g is a reality and not a pipe dream .

Re: screwdriver set for opening laptop?
Brian Vogel <britechguy@...>
Enes,
I honestly can't speak to durability in these sorts of drivers, as when you're dealing with fasteners that are so small, and that require very minimal torque, you should never "ruin" a driver or driver bit anyway. In a regular sized screwdriver, I haven't found that there is much of any difference, either, but I'm someone who uses screwdrivers and bits (for the most part, unless I'm using a drill-driver) pretty gently. I don't have any straight blade drivers that are magnetic that are even close to large enough for, say, prying a paint can lid off! And that's one way I do "abuse" some larger straight blade screw drivers.

Also, maybe DSL companies will stop the stock buybacks and do more
fiber to the home rollouts, and cable operators may scrap the data
caps and go docsis 4.0. Competition like this is a very good thing.
It keeps ISP pricing in check.

Hi Brian, I was concerned with buying a magnetic bit set, as I thought
they were less durable than full size drivers. But this set
appears to be better value for money. I will keep the smaller set
though, as you never know when those might come in handy. Too bad
probably the laptop will arrive before the screwdrivers lol.

Brian, I think 5g is more significant for fixed wireless than
smartphones, as the latency improvement will make 5g on par with
DSL latencies, and allow it to replace old docsis cable, and most
DSL speeds.

Re: screwdriver set for opening laptop?

enes,
You seldom, very seldom, use a straight blade screwdriver for electronics. And in Phillips, I'll be surprised if you go lower than a PH-0 on a laptop. The problem here may be, and I can only say may, is that your computer maker may have chosen to use torx screws, which is not uncommon. If you're not strapped for cash, I would go for the newer version of this set, Magnetic Screwdriver Set 57 PCS Includes Slotted/Phillips/Torx Mini Precision Screwdriver, CREMAX Non-Slip Repair Tool Kit with Replaceable Screwdriver Bits for Repair Home Improvement Craft, that has all of the straight blade and Phillips heads in the set you reference, plus a couple of Torx, too. But the big plus is the one that takes interchangeable driver bits, and some of those are smaller torx and PoziDrive, Square, Phillips, Hex/Allen bits. For the extra $10 it's well worth it if you expect to use these drivers for other purposes. If not, provided your maker is not using any Torx screws, you should be fine with the one you were looking at. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 2004, Build 19041 Always remember that computers are just glorified light bulbs - they rarely fail in continuous use and usually go pop when turned off and on. ~ Technician with the username Computer Bloke, on Technibble.com

screwdriver set for opening laptop?
enes sarıbaş
Hi all,
So I had opted to have my laptop shipped without memory and a hard drive, so I could choose those components on my own. I got a piece screwdriver set, which had been advertised as for pcs. However, when screwing the battery cover of my LTE router, I noticed I lacked the correct screwdriver. I had like a $10 set of magnetic bits, and I tested the smallest, on my laptop, however, they have no magnetism so the screw will just stay in. My question is, will this set, which I just ordered, have lal the drivers to open a laptop? https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07K1C744B/ref=ppx_od_dt_b_asin_title_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 From my previous full set, I have the phillips 0, 00, and 000 tips.

There are still scads of 4G smartphones available and they'll remain available widely until 5G becomes as common as 4G is now. We went through a transition precisely like the one now when 4G was the next hot thing and was being rolled out. And when whatever replaces 5G makes its appearance, we'll have the same sort of transition again. Lather, rinse, repeat. No one's forcing anyone to buy anything.
