I haven't used Outlook but I expect that if you learn how to do what you want, you can ignore the various ways of getting lost for the most part. For example, Thunderbird has a calendar. Using f6

When I had pop three, I had a choice whether to delete messages from theserver after download or not, and I had to set which one I wanted. Pam.

I never liked outlook for the same reason you don't. I liked outlook express, because it was much simpler than all the rest of these email programs. Even windows live mail has more places to get

Other options that generally get rid of these things these days is turning on 2 factor authentication (usually a code sent to your smartphone, but there are other options) or using a FIDO-2/UF2
