tech memories
Beth
I wrote an introduction in which I got the memories of Apple and Echo synthesis, but what about those of you who remember Napster? Who remembers any of the old MP3 players from the past?
Now, I was wondering who would be privy to a book review? This is a book review on a technological subject: the MP3 and music revolution. We all love music, I"m sure, around here. So this book is available on Bard, so if you have a patronage with the Talking Book service in the NLS program, you can access this audio book. I found myself fascinated by this book, and someone mentioned Philips. Yes, they're famous for shavers, funny Gerald mentioned that. Anyway Philips was indeed a conglomerate and they tried to harness what two German engineers invented, forcing them to use a certain filtering bay. But this book covers an entire history behind MP3 piracy, which I would have been a victim of thanks to the RIAA, if Project Hubcap had been going on longer than it did. I'm a confessed downloader of music, but I absolutely can't afford music files from iTunes, and have been yelled at. By none other than Dad, so unfortunately, piracy in its weirdest form seems to have been the only way I can stream music. Also, this book covers what Spotify and other subscriptions do, and we meet a lot of people who have shaped the music industry as we know it today. Thank God, we don't need CD's and yeah, it gets better. It was an older executive called Doug Morris who came up with ideas for bringing in more revenue for music artists. Anyhow, I would recommend this book to any piracy or any music enthusiasts out there. Hmmm, when I first set Cortana up, you just had to press a couple
buttons labeled next. You would have to look for something called
Try Cortana. When set up, she's awesome.

Right now, I depend on Google for what music that I listen to. iTunes is doing a good job of filling up my gmail box, which I can't get into. I think eventually, I'll just get another gmail address and let that one die a slow death, although I liked the name I gave for it.

thinking about it (creating a tech list that is), stepped up and created one, eh? And that lame comment was to Carlos. Glad to see this list up and running. It'll have its this that's and the others, but which walks of life actually don't? After receiving a private message from one of the new owners with the BlindTech list about me using the name Smiling? I was like hmmmm, let's see how long this goes because didn't we all just go through that nonsense not all that long ago? Blah blah. Nevertheless, good times and thanks Carolyn for your comments on the other list regarding the very name it is that I've used for significant amounts of time now. Happy to place a smile upon whomever's face, 100% free, yet absolutely priceless!

LOL, did they target everyone? The new admins, that is. LOL again, anyone Saw Mike's message yet? I would love to know an answer to a question, but more about that later. You may have been picked on your name before, but when I responded on the braille sense list, with the braillenote, they said that I was advertising, and that wasn't even the admin. I just laughed, and had a go at the guy off list. Just use whatever name you feel confident with. I would personally use my email address, but because of personal messages, I can't yet. Once I figure out how to get GMX working with the braille sense, though, that will be my name, whether people likes it or not.

GOsh, I set this up after I upgraded so I have no real memory of the
steps. Hmmm, let me see if I can get a comprehensive step by step
thing on the web that would tell you where to go to set up the
Cortana. Or is there any Cortana freaks out there who might be able
to help?

The book is titled, How Music Got Free by Steven Witt. I can't remember how to spell the author's last name, but the title keywords you should be able to search for anywhere, including the Bard site. Note to Bard users: the site is being maintained at the moment, so is shut down for the weekend. So when it comes back up, feel free to look How Music Got Free up.

My tech roots go back to the trusty slate and stylus. I still use it to label mail that I want to keep. It's definitely portable and doesn't run on batteries.
Our first PC was one from Radio Shack back in the 80's. I think it was called TRS 80 or "trash 80!" Now, I do 99.9 per cent of my computing with my iPhone 6. If I can find a scan stand that will suit my needs, my Mac and Toshiba may become paper weights. Sent from my iPhone

Well, here's what I don't get. Sent from a brailleNote. That's not advertisement. If it is, this means, on the JAWS list, NVDA should never be mentioned. On the NVDA, jaws should never be mentioned. Its impossible. So how the earth is a single signature advertisement? And they were not even admins. Its just pointless. Same with names. Some people are worried of people knowing their real name. So what? Should they just unsubscribe? No. But rather, we can do something like: "Hello, Smiling?," Problem solved.
