Re: NVDA, A Space Hog
Quentin Christensen
I had a look at the first option Brian suggested: SpaceSniffer The download page is: http://www.uderzo.it/main_products/space_sniffer/download.html The direct download is: https://www.fosshub.com/SpaceSniffer.html?dwl=spacesniffer_1_3_0_2.zip Brian is right, everything up to actually saving the report is accessible. I did manage to save the report using object navigation: So, first run a report, then: 1. Press "Next object" command: NVDA+numpad 6 (NVDA+shift+right arrow) until the focus goes past the vertical and horizontal scrollbars to the "Toolbar". Note that if you go to previous object you will eventually get to another toolbar - that is a DIFFERENT toolbar! 2. On the toolbar, press Move to first contained object (NVDA+2 or NVDA+shift+down arrow). The object navigator goes to "button". 3. Press "Move mouse to current navigator object" (NVDA+numpad divide or NVDA+shift+m). 4. Press the left mouse button click (numpad divide or NVDA+[) That opens a file save dialog where you can specify where to save the file. Otherwise, yes maybe use Tree Size Free *grin*

Hi friends
I am having problems with my firefox. I used to be able to go on it and arrow down to read with Jaws. Now, I can only tab and it doesn't read everything that I need. I use firefox a lot, but now can't because it won't let me use the normal jaws commands. Has firefox changed or is there something I need to do with my jaws? Thanks for any help. Trinh

Vicky,
You're quite welcome. If you this up, would you mind reporting back regarding whether or not you occasionally have the error dialog pop up about not being able to find the next unread message? I'm curious to learn whether this is happening elsewhere. If it's not, then I might try turning off the preview pane and see if that makes it stop occurring. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 2004, Build 19041 Always remember that computers are just glorified light bulbs - they rarely fail in continuous use and usually go pop when turned off and on. ~ Technician with the username Computer Bloke, on Technibble.com

I decided to put together that tutorial since I know this will eventually come up again. Adding the Next Unread Item Button to your Messages Tab/Ribbon in Outlook
You should be in the message reading window for any message of your choosing before starting. It may be possible to add this control elsewhere if you’re using the Preview Pane, but I have not tested that, either. To Add the Next Unread Item Button: 1. Gain focus on any individual control in the Message Ribbon, it does not matter which one. ALT+H, Down Arrow will do for getting you on the Ignore control, the first in the ribbon. 2. Bring up the context menu by the method of your choosing, whether Right Click, SHIFT+F10, or the applications/context menu key and choose the Customize the Ribbon option. This will cause Outlook Options to open with focus on the Customize Ribbon Pane, which is insanely complex. If you wish to explore it, feel free to do so, but the remainder of these instructions will focus exclusively on what you need to do next to get the control you’re looking for into its own group and on to your Message Ribbon. 3. Tab into the pane, and in the Choose Commands from dropdown, choose the Commands Not in the Ribbon option. A long list, in alphabetical order, now appears below. You are looking for the item in the list named, Next Unread Item, which you will select. 4. Now you will navigate over to the list, already showing, under the Customize the Ribbon dropdown which is showing the Main Tabs, and gain focus on and select the Message tab, which is first in the list. Then navigate to the New Group button and activate it. You must create a new group to place any commands not normally on the ribbon in to. 5. A new group, initially named, New Group (Custom), will be created as the rightmost group in the Message Tab/Ribbon. I want a meaningful name, so I immediately navigate to and activate the Rename button, and change the name to Message Jump Navigation. You can, of course, choose any name that’s meaningful to you. 6. Navigate to and activate the Add button. Since focus was already established on the Next Unread Item command in the first list, and focus remains on the newly created group in the second, this will cause Next Unread Item to be placed in the newly created Message Jump Navigation group. 7. Navigate to and activate the OK button. You now have the Next Unread Item control in your Message Tab/Ribbon. In my case, and I’d presume it will be the same for everyone, the keyboard shortcut is ALT+H,Y. On occasion, when I activate this control, I get an error dialog box that reads, “Cannot open the next item. Sorry we’re having trouble opening this item. This could be temporary, but if you see it again you might want to restart Outlook.” I have never been able to figure out exactly when it will pop up. In virtually all cases if I click OK to close it and issue the Next Unread Item command again, it works just fine.

Re: JAWS2021 Beta 3 Download Link + What's New
Mike B
Yo Kimsan,
Here's Sharky explained:
New Voice Assistant to Help with Various JAWS,
ZoomText, and Fusion Commands and Features
The new Voice Assistant provides a way to interact with JAWS, ZoomText, and Fusion in Windows 10 using speech input. Supported languages include English, Dutch, German, Spanish, and French. Ask it to help you out with various JAWS or ZoomText features using natural speech. This means that the same action can be performed by more than one similar phrase instead of a single predefined voice command. For instance, to launch JAWS Settings Center, you could say "Settings Center" or "change settings." Unlike keyboard shortcuts, which can be hard to remember, natural voice commands are an easier way to interact with the JAWS or ZoomText software. Using voice input to control JAWS or ZoomText can also benefit users with certain conditions which prevent them from using a keyboard effectively. The JAWS Voice Assistant uses your computer's internal microphone or you can talk to it using an external microphone or headset. To tell the Voice Assistant to begin listening for a specific command, there are three options: list of 2 items • Press the key combination, INSERT+ALT+SPACEBAR (CAPS LOCK+ALT+SPACEBAR for ZoomText and Fusion). • Speak a specific wake word which alerts to software to begin listening for a voice command, similar to using an Alexa or Google Home device. The wake word is "Sharky" for JAWS and "Zoomy" for ZoomText and Fusion. Speak this word followed by a specific JAWS or ZoomText command, such as, "Sharky, list links," or "Zoomy, increase zoom level." list end Note: The wake word is not available if you are using a Bluetooth microphone. In this case, you must use the keystroke before speaking the voice command. list of 1 items • From the JAWS main window, press ALT+U to open the Utilities menu, expand the Voice Assistant submenu, and then select Talk to JAWS. From the ZoomText or Fusion main window, select Talk to ZoomText. list end When the Voice Assistant starts listening for a voice command, a short audio indicator plays, and a visual indicator is displayed. After hearing a voice command, a different audio indicator plays until the command is processed. After processing, the visual indicator is removed, a different, short, audio indicator plays, and the desired JAWS or ZoomText action is performed. If the Voice Assistant does not hear anything, the message, "Sorry, I didn’t hear anything" is spoken. If the Voice Assistant does not understand or if the voice command is not supported, the message, "Sorry, I didn’t catch that" is spoken. Note: Since all voice recognition processing is performed over the Internet using Microsoft Services in the cloud, there will be a slight delay depending on your connection. Be patient and experiment with different commands. This is a new technology being added to our software products and will continue to change and evolve over time. We welcome your suggestions and feedback. To turn off the Voice Assistant or change other options, such as whether or not JAWS or ZoomText listens for the wake word or to turn off the sounds, do one of the following: list of 2 items • For JAWS, open the JAWS Utilities menu, expand the Voice Assistant submenu, and then select Settings. • For ZoomText or Fusion, select the Tools tab, press DOWN ARROW on the Voice Assistant drop down button, and select Settings. list end To learn more and to view a full list of voice commands for specific actions, say "Sharky, help," or "Zoomy, help." You can also select Getting Started from the Voice Assistant menu. Here are a few commands you can try to help you get started. For JAWS (Remember to say "Sharky" or press INSERT+ALT+SPACEBAR before speaking each command): list of 10 items • Help • Talk faster • Talk slower • Change settings • Command search • What time is it • OCR PDF • List links • List headings • List spelling errors list end For ZoomText or Fusion (Remember to say "Zoomy" or press CAPS LOCK+ALT+SPACEBAR before speaking each command): list of 10 items • Increase zoom level • Zoom out • Set zoom level to 5 • Where is my focus • What time is it • Activate speech • Talk faster • Open Reader app view • Launch finder • Change the color enhancement scheme list end Take care and stay safe. Hey Mike, were you ever
able to install the paid version of 0 Patch? I noticed that
whenever a new patch was available, it would slow down my
computer until I applied it. And to apply it, I had to open the
0 Patch console from the "everything is okay" system tray icon
and wait until it finally launched, because when I first open
the console, I would be confronted with the "program not
responding" dialog, and had to wait a few minutes until the
console was finally enabled and the patch automatically
applied. Who needs this aggravation? But on another note, do
you have any idea why I could not download Open Book 9.0 from
the FS downloads page? When I activated the download link, I
heard a ding sound in Google Chrome, probably emanating from the
Pop-up Sounds extension, but otherwise, I was not presented
with the file download dialog to save it. Is there perhaps a
problem with their web site?

Re: Unable to Launch Open Book
Gerald Levy
Okay, I fixed the
problem and now I am able to successfully launch Open Book again
and scan and read documents normally. But a little background
on how I resolved the problem in case anyone else encounters the
same issue. First, I visited the Freedom Scientific Open Book
downloads page and tried to download Open Book 9.0. But for
whatever reason, I could not download it using Google Chrome or
Firefox. Maybe there's a problem with their web site. Next, I
considered performing a System Restore. But it turned out that
I had no restore points. I was mulling over what to do next and
considered calling FS customer support for help, but thought
things over again. I remembered that I had just applied a new
patch this morning to 0 Patch, the third-party security program
that supposedly applies patches to keep Windows 7 protected
because, of course, this obsolete OS is no longer supported by
Microsoft. I figured that uninstalling 0 Patch, which is mostly
inaccessible, anyway, might fix the problem, because perhaps the
patch I had applied this morning was somehow preventing Open
Book from launching, flagging it as malware or some other
malicious threat. And sure enough, once I uninstalled 0 Patch
using Revo Uninstaller, Open Book launched normally and worked
as it should, scanning and reading back my mail. So my advice
for anyone who is still using0 Patch on their Windows 7
computer is to get rid of 0 Patch, because it might cause
unanticipated problems or otherwise interfere with certain
programs like Open Book. It is almost totally inaccessible, and
besides, the information on its interface is mostly
incomprehensible gibberish, anyway, and it may not even be
protecting your Windows 7 computer in the first place. Don't
even think about installing the paid version of 0 Patch, it they
ever get around to making it accessible. Its downside outweighs
any perceived benefits it might offer in terms of added Windows
7 protection. In this case, reinstalling Open Book without
uninstalling 0 Patch would probably not have fixed the problem,
after all.

Why change something that works though? An applications key works
perfectly well for anything I would want to do. There is literally
no reason to change it. Also, with hypersensetive mousepads these
days, you can accidentally hover your finger over a part of the
touch pad and cause unintended actions. Not to mention moving your
hand away from the keyboard and to the mouse just for a right
click when you're working on the keyboard isn't time effective or
ergonomic. As for laptop examples, look at the eluktronics rp15 vs 17
keyboards, and see a missing plus and enter key on the numb pad.
