Re: Question about using the CrowdCompass IOS app

wendy Sheld-Walker

I guess the contacts downloaded from the convention app are viewed as
a separate group in the contacts on your phone. There is probably a
setting in your phone to migrate them over to your regular contact
list. As far as the exhibitors contact info there really doesn't seem
to be a way to save them like that of individuals. Some exhibitors
have downloadable pdf's at the bottom of their contact info but I do
not know what those contain. If you were on your computer using the
website you could cut and paste the contact info easily to a document
but on the phone it is more cumbersome. It's a shame that feature was
not implemented.

I'm going to list the steps I took and see if it's the info you're
looking for, if not let me know: I went to the attendee list, found a
friend and clicked on their name. I then clicked on add them as a
contact. I believe the friend then has to go into the menu on the main
page where you look at your notifications but their is also a button
that says contacts. Once they go into contacts they will see all
people who have requested them as contacts and they have to confirm
them. In this same Contact list there is an export button at the top.
once you select it, you can then click on some or all of the names to
export to your phone's contact list. This is all I did but I believe
the key here is that the person has to confirm your request before
their info can be downloaded off the app. Hope this helps.

I'm not sure how often the attendee list is updated on the app. For
instance, if the list is updated hourly or daily, maybe your friend
was not in the list right away. Also, the list is by last name but if
your friend accidentally put their last name first or mistyped it then
it will be hard to find. I found yours and my name easily. If you
want, I can help look for your friend's name in the attendee list. The
section index on the right side of the iPhone screen makes it somewhat
quicker to scroll through.

I've played around with it so if you have a specific question
maybe
I
can help. When you first download it, you type in nfb2020 in the
search (keeping in mind it is lower case and all one word) then
in
the
event ID you type nfb2020 in again. It will ask you to enter the
info
you registered for the convention with (I don't remember if you
can
look at it without at least entering some info) then it will
take
you
to your profile screen. You can enter as much or as little as
you
want
others to see (or none at all). The info for the convention is
very
accessible. When you are in the schedule of events, if you
double
tap
on an event you are interested in, it has a Zoom link to that
event,

a
description of it and you can set a reminder for that event and

Hi all,

Last week Gerald Levy and one other person recommended a talking
bathroom scale, it looks like the brand name is Newline from what it
shows on amazon. I bought it and got it yesterday but after inserting
the batteries so far all my mom and I can get it to do is to say please
wait when we tap it, then there's a beep a few seconds later and then
the scale shuts off.

My mom has been the one doing this so far so I'm not sure at what point
she steps on the scale but what might we be doing wrong? Is there a
certain procedure to follow to make the scale work?

Btw my mom says that after it says please wait there's some letters that
come up on the display that she says looks like out 2, but she says that
she's not sure because apparently the entire letters aren't shown.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Troy

I'm not sure what part of the app you are in. Have you already entered
nfb2020 as the event and nfb2020 as the event password? Also when you
say "my planner" are you talking about "My Schedule " on the menu of

times it is just talking about nfb2020 and not an individual event at
the convention. I'm pretty sure anyway. Hope this helps.

Hi, their GPS is called the captain plus. I have one and love it. It has always been spot on with where I am and I have marked the bus stop before I have to get off so I know once we have passed it I need to get ready to get out at the next stop. I don't know where you got your information from saying it wasn't good. The only problem I have ever had with it was I was lost and it told me to walk north for a certain amount of distance. I had no idea which way was North so I just had to start walking and then it told me where to go.

They stopped selling the captain plus here awhile ago and I think they came out with another model but I haven't used it because my current one was doing me just fine. The Smart Vision II also has the captain GPS software on it.

Bye for now.

Now that I have seen IRIE's repair policy,I stand by by previous assertion that getting it repaired could be a real hassle. And by the way, what is the warranty on the Smart Vision phone, and why aren't the terms of the warranty posted on IRIE's web site? What are they trying to hide? Is the warranty one year? Two years? 90 days? Inquiring minds want to know about the warranty as well as the repair policy before they plunk down $700. Not surprisingly, IRI doesn't pay for shipping, which many other more consumer-friendly companies cover. No way to engender satisfied customers. And recently, I listened to an Accessible World Tech Talk presentation on the Smart Vision, which amounted to nothing but a sales pitch. To my disappointment, and undoubtedly the disappointment of other listeners, the phone was not demonstrated. All the IRIE representative did was prun down a list of all its blind friendly features, but astonishingly, did not demonstrate any of them, or even offer a basic demonstration of its speech output. What was he hiding? If this phone is so great, then demonstrate its capabilities, don't just sit there and tell us about them, and expect blind consumers to buy it on faith alone. This is a major reason why Odin Mobile and the Lucia phone were abject failures. Oh, and about Kapsys. Didn't they try to market a blind-friendly GPS system in the US a few years ago called the Captain or something like that? How did that work out? No match for the GPS devices from Humanware. So they don't exactly have a stellar track record that would inspire confidence in their products. Oh and by the way, when was the last time France put a man in space? So much for their technology innovation and leadership.

Now, as to Kapsys being an obscure company, do you live in France,

Depends on the brand of phone. If it is made by a mainstream
electronics giant like Samsung, LG or Apple, a Best Buy store or even
a neighborhood cell phone store should be able to fix a cracked
screen. But if the phone is one of those specialized phones designed
for blind consumers like the BlindShell Classic or Smart Vision,
which is made by an obscure, overseas company with no facilities in
the US, you are probably screwed, because no Best Buy or phone store
will touch it, and you will be out of luck. So take care of that $700
Smart Vision, because if you drop it and crack the screen, you can
probably kiss it goodbye, and you will have to pony up another $700
for a new one.

Hi,

Using latest windows ten and jaws 2020, after receiving my laptop back, I know longer am able to press windows key A, and read through the notifications I received.

Automatically, jaws will read them as they come through, but after pressing windows key A, there is no list.

Thoughts?

Re: Question about using the CrowdCompass IOS app

I've played around with it so if you have a specific question
maybe
I
can help. When you first download it, you type in nfb2020 in the
search (keeping in mind it is lower case and all one word) then in
the
event ID you type nfb2020 in again. It will ask you to enter the
info
you registered for the convention with (I don't remember if you
can
look at it without at least entering some info) then it will take
you
to your profile screen. You can enter as much or as little as you
want
others to see (or none at all). The info for the convention is
very
accessible. When you are in the schedule of events, if you double
tap
on an event you are interested in, it has a Zoom link to that
event,

a
description of it and you can set a reminder for that event and
even
add it to a schedule of things you want to attend. Like I said it
is
one of the most accessible event apps I've come across.

You can also use the website for the event :
event.CrowdCompass.com/nfb20
Event password: nfb2020

I'm having trouble with the AttendeesHub app. When I try to log into my planner, there seems to be no text box to type in the info. When I try to search for the event, Nfbblebjbj, to be specific, It it says something strange happened on their end, and let's try again. I tried again more than once yesterday, but it didn't seem to work. When I tried to cancel the search, it doesn't seem to budge I've tried redownloading it, but still it doesn't seem to be working properly. I did manage to use the website, but I hope I can get step-by-step help with the mobile app before tomorrow when the convention starts. But any feedback would be much appreciated.

Here is the link for the test meeting. If you have problems, let us know.
https://zoom.us/test

If the window opens properlyafter you press the join button, tab around and see what you see. Use join with audio if that is the only thihng that applies. Then tab around again. You will probably see a way to test your audio and your microphone. The audio test may start by itself after you join with audio.
To test with the microphone, press the button that applies with the space bar, talk for a few seconds then stop. If things are working well, you should hear yourself shortly after you stop talking.

You can probably tab around the interface as well and see the things I discussed earlier or if you are using a tutorial, see the things discussed in it.

there is some sort of way to get into a test site run by Zoom. I tried it months ago and you can test your audio level and microphone level. I may be able to find the page if no one knows it. If you test the microphone and hear no audio, that doesn't necessarily mean your microphone isn't working.
You may need to change the source in volume control so the Microphone audio is sent to Zoom.

Hi all,

Actually, that's why I suggested that people download
Mosen's tutorial.
There are scripts for Jaws 2020 that are added into the
software, but you can get them separately I think.

Most folks don't need to know that much about Zoom beyond a
few keystrokes, like alt-a and alt-y and altf9 for chat.
Alt-u brings up a list of the participants.

You enter information from the keyboard when signing in,
just as anywhere.

Commands such as raise the hand are not numpad commands.
There are short cuts in the Zoom computer application such
as alt a to toggle between mute yourself and unmute
yourself. Nothing is done using the numpad to control Zoom.

Hi all,

Any Zoom invitation I've ever seen, and I've seen a
multitude in the past ten days, includes phone numbers. You
just dial the phone number and when you're asked for the
code just type it in. If there's a password, you may have
to type that in too. It's very simple.

Sis Carolyn, you're a rear gem! You're doing well by not
letting all these technologies overwhelm you. I'm not a
guru either, but I'm always tinkering!

If WhatsApp sounds rather strange, I understand that. Here
in the United States, WhatsApp's use is less favorable. Why
so? Well, except for international calls, all our calls are
free! Even for international calls, one could purchase a
calling card for pennies on the dollar. Some of our MVNO's
and some of our service providers can also BUNDLE
INTERNATIONAL CALLS with their service offerings to certain
countries for NO PER MINUTE charge.

Outside the United States, where data and WI-FI are high
premiums, WhatsApp fills a niche. Still, they can't deploy
it without data or WI-FI connection because WhatsApp DOES
ITS BUSINESS via the Internet. If someone from Vannuatu
were to call me direct, the cost of their call to me will
put 4,000 holes in the ceiling; however, if such a one calls
me on WhatsApp, insofar as such a one has sufficient data,
we could engage in a long, long conversation.

Another service you may wish to give a jingle is Google Duo.
The quality of its audio is far more superior compared to
WhatsApp's. I believe Google Duo is available in the iOS
garden. Flicking upwards with two fingers is all that's
needed to answer a Google Duo call. No, it's not as popular
as WhatsApp; I'm working hard to convert several folks to
Google Duo as I truly wish to ditch WhatsApp.
