Re: Scanning a document

Hi all,

Look in the OB manual to see how to save documents you scan in .docx format. It's in the set-up.

Besides, it shouldn't be saving them as .pdf the default is .arc or whatever it is. Used to be ark or .arc in the ancient days when I had OB.

how to format SD cards larger than 32GB, please

Greg Daniel <gdaniel@...>

Hi everyone,

A friend of mine has a Humanware Stratus V12M, and has an SD card whose capacity she suspects is larger than 32GB. While I know that larger SD cards must be formatted differently than their smaller brethren, I have no idea how to format them using Windows 10 and JAWS.

Any helpful hints would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Greg

Re: file type associations

I went to file type associations again, somehow it switched back to edge. So I had to manually switch it back to PDF. So now there is no look for an app off this computer, you only get look for an app from the microsoft store! Why, they do not have k1000 if I wanted to open my pdf files the store does not have it! I do not have k-light as an option to open audio files. I went to windows i and typed files and arrowed down choose a file type for each application. I was trying to set all the file types so in the future they all open in the applications I want them to open up in! I hope it does not change on me. I think the last time I set my file types was before I updated to 1909. Windows needs to do something or jaws, I would have so much faster if I could have done letter navigation to get directly to pdf, ogg, jpeg etc. Anyone know of a quicker way of setting file type associations?
Thanks Heather

Yes, Pontes Media Downloader is your best bet if you can feed it the URL from the video.

Hi Veronica,

Try the following  after you've scanned your document with Openbook:
Press, Alt + F, for the file menu
Down arrow to, save as, and press enter, or  press the letter, A, for save as
Type what you  want the title of your file to be into the edit field
Tab to the file format combo box and up / down arrow until you find the format you want
Tab 1 time to the, Save button, press the spacebar.
You'll get a dialogue, press the spacebar on the, Okay button, and you'll get another dialogue saying your document has been saved.

Take care. Mike. Sent from my iBarstool.

Hi everyone,

The problem I have is that whenever I scan a document, the document is in PDF form.  I would like to be able to read the scanned material as a word document.  Is there any way to accomplish this?  I have an Epson 5B8A64 WF-2630 printer, and I do have Open Book.  Any help would be very much appreciated.

Re: using FiiO E10K USB DAC

Well, it is official, there is a power short with my ports and that is why I am having sound issues. So no matter what I do I will have the same issues. Darn, I was wondering what was going on as all my levels were set at 100 percent and the volume would never stay at that level. It would cost less to just get a knew pc apparently. Has something to do with the mother board. I did notice the usb ports in the in front were not working all that well, I assumed they just did not get enough power so I just used the ones in the back I really like my FiiO it did make my sound a lot better if the sound was not being affected. Thanks for everyone’s help!

Cheers Heather

I did get a response from  the store who told me about FiiO E10K USB DAC.

So if anyone plans on buying one here is what they said.

Hello,

We do not have experience with assistive technology but we will attempt to describe the functions of your FiiO E10K. On one side, you have the volume knob and 3.5mm output for connecting to headphones. There is a toggle switch between the volume knob and 3.5mm jack. This is for bass boost; the switch is off when toggled toward the 3.5mm jack. When toggled toward the volume knob, bass boost is on. On the other side of the E10K are the USB port, 3.5mm line out for speakers, coaxial digital output, and a gain toggle switch. The toggle switch is between the coaxial jack, a circular protrusion, and the 3.5mm line out jack, an almost flush small circular hole. Low gain is toward the coaxial jack side, while high gain is toggle toward the 3.5mm jack.

The E10K is powered by the USB connection and adheres to USB power standards. Even if the unit is plugged into a laptop, the laptop will supply power via USB.”

So far it is working like a charm with the speakers! There is no distortion from the sound.

Cheers Heather

Well, so far this seems to be working with my desktop. The speech is not getting loud and quiet, thank god!

I have been playing with it for about an hour and I just received it this morning.

I was wondering if someone who has this

DAC can explain all the features in English for dummies.

I tried to e-mail the company and have not received a response.

I have connected to the usb port, the 3.0 usb port off the back of the desktop.

It has a knob that turns it own and the bose speakers are plugged in to the 3.5 jack off the back of the DAC, well not sure wich is the back and the front but, they are plugged in to the same side as the usb connection is on.

Their is a switch, not sure what it does, something about high gain mode and not sure what it is on.

It has 2 channels according to what I was reading off the settings for the

DAC.

It can put out adobe digital sound and microsoft sound and one other sound that was not checked.

Not sure what I should have it on for share mode it had seven settings to choose from.

So any help would be much appreciated.

Thank everyone for all the tips and help in my jerney.

Cheers Heather

computer not recognizing braille printer

I have recently purchase a Braille Blazer printer. I have connected it to my desktop computer and downloaded the Braille translation program from APH. My computer seems not to be able to see that a Braille printer is connected to the computer. It does not list the printer when I go into control panel. Can anybody help me to figure how to get the computer to recognize the Braille Blazer printer, so I can start using the Braille printer. Thanks to anyone who can help me with this situation.

Home network setup problem

Loy

I have spent several hours trying to network my 3 home computers. I have my Main computer, my wife's computer and a Laptop. I have enabled file and print sharing on all 3. I disabled password protector on all 3. Private network on all 3. My main computer sees laptop, my laptop sees main but asked for cridincials, which I don't know what cridincials it wants. And my wife's computer sees main but says there is an error when I click on main. My main reason to network is so I can print from all three to printer connected to main. It is not wireless but connects by USB.Running Windows 10 Pro 2004 all  3. Any suggestions on what I might be doing wrong.

Advice wanted

Kerryann Ifill

Good morning all:

I’vebeen asked to endorse a website and its accessibility features. They are planning to introduce one of those add on text to speech add ons which I advised against. My argument is that anyone or rather most people using the net and require such adaptive measures will already be using technology with which they are familiar and most of these add ons create issues and are usually inferior.

What are your thoughts?

There has to be a simple to work with solution that websites & apps can use to make the log-in process less of a hassle for the blind & deaf-blindcommunity.

Hi Group,

I had to make a change in the Alexa App this morning. When I tried logging in, I was presented with a captcha request. There is an audio challenge, but it is garbled and I can't hear it well enough or type it quick enough to log in.

How has anyone else dealt with this issue? I have already complained to the Amazon Disability line and asked that in future releases of the app that this 2 level authentication be made optional upon installation.

Sorry I'm late to the conversation.  I use Facebook on my iPhone SE second generation which is the app and then I also use the computer occasionally.  I have Jaws 2020 and google chrome and I go to the mobile site as well because it's easier than the regular site.  The app is not mobie as far as I know and it's very easy.  Hope this helps.  I also forgot on the computer, I'm using Windows 10.

The desktop is my favorite way to do it; it's easiest to get to all the things I want. The other devices are mostly for when I'm away from the desktop, (or my husband has commandeered it to do genealogy)! The phone works fine if you just want to do a quick check, and the BrailleNote with the app   does some things very well (plus I like being able to do it "silently" using just Braille.)
