I am glad I could help because when I had that issue I only found out the answer by mistake.

I don’t know why that happon, I haven’t really asked anyone.  But I could if you like.

Do you have the setting for what happens when the lid is closed set for do nothing? I have no idea what happens if you have the setting set to its default and have an external keyboard plugged in when the lid is closed. If you haven't changed this setting, setting it to do nothing may solve the problem.

Holy smokes, Michael! Yes I do use an HP laptop, and yes, I do run it with the lid closed. I will be dipped! I opened Word with JAWS running with my laptop lid open, and my Word now loads properly. You gave the solution that I desperately needed, and I thank you. Do you know why Word will not load properly with the lid closed? Believe me, I’m not looking a gift horse in the mouth, I’m just incredibly curious. Thanks Michael!

If so try opening the lid, see if word will work.

Concerning the Power Cord to a Laptop

Veronica Kirk

About a month ago I purchased what was supposed to be a docking station from Microcenter, and this so-called docking station required a power cord, so I bought one there even though I already had one at home.  My computer is a Dell Latitude E6540.  I am returning this hub or whatever it is.  I may keep the new power cord, but my question is would this power cord be able to be used with a newer laptop in case I should happen to need to purchase a newer computer?  Thank you very much for your response.

That being the case, and since suggestions haven't helped either problem, my question is how other audio sounds.  If you play music, does it sound muffled and is the volume low?  Do you have more than one unit and is this problem limited to one unit or common to all?  When problems occur, the possibility that there is something wrong with a unit itself shouldn't be forgotten or overlooked when the kinds of settings or software suggestions don't help.

Repeat this until the volume is at your desired level.

Similarly for lowering the volume say:

Here's hoping you would have some or the other way to fix this laptop
but in case you still have these issues here is whatrecommend.

Please backup your documentnts just in case. & then, click on start &
in the search box that comes up, type reset. . Once in the reset
dialogue box. choose the option that tells you wherein it tells you it
would reinstall your windows & you may loose all the programmes &
other data.

There it would also ask you if you would like to install windows
online or offline. I recommend you choose offline installation. incase
that fails choose online. For the online installation to work you
would need a fast & stable internet connection.

within no time you would be done.

In order to read all the screens that may be presented to you from
time to time during installation turn on narrator by pressing
CTRL+Windows+Enter. You may have to turn on Narrator more than once if
you realise it stopped in between which does at times, after the
computer reboots.

on the Sharp clock, to set the daylight saving time, you press the recall memory button whitch is below the equals, then press the button to the left of that, this would be the minus button if you weren't in set mode. that will give you daylight saving time, or standard time, or you can do as you suggested and just set it outrite.

Another thing, Madison.  It is not necessary to cross post your inquiry to every blindness-related tech list at the same time.  Post to one or two of them at a time, and if you don't receive satisfactory responses, then go on and post to a few others.  And please provide as much information as possible to elicit helpful responses.  When you are inquiring about a computer problem, always specify your operating system and screen reader.  If inquiring about cable TV, specify your cable provider and so on.

working correctly either. Spell check is all messed up. It is outlook 10.

I have tried to do a system restore, but it will not go back to an earlier
restore point. So, I want to know if any ideas I have will work, If I go
back to factory settings, on this dell, and then try to set up my
computer, will it at like a new computer, eliminating all the mess I now
have? And how can I hold on to the programs on here, that I want to keep,
like my office small business edition? This is a windows ten computer,
at

least it says it is, and I am running jaws 18. So if you can help please
do.

Jim
