try key combo of: windows plus escape, pretty sure lol... Some machines this will have to be done each time you restart, sometimes not. Of course, may not do anything on your machine either.

Re: Odd Issue With VoiceOver On iPhone SE 2020

Mike B.

We had the same problem but, this is with my wife's phone being connected to the car's blutooth.  When connected to blutooth Siri will not read out / give
audio directions when you ask her for driving directions.

What happens is that the phone switches to the car stereo in the audio destination of Control Center and the audio destination option can't be accessed
unless the phone is playing something.  But, when the phone is playing something from a source other than  the iPhone option Voiceover can't be heard.

The only way the sound can be switched back to play through the iPhone is by someone sighted since Voiceover can't be heard while the sounds are assigned
to play through the car stereo, speaker or whatever the hell else it'll play through other than the iPhone.

Our solution is for my wife to turn off the iPhone's bluetooth if she's going to ask for driving directions when I'm not with her.  When I'm with her we
just use my iPhone since I don't have it connect to our vehicles bluetooth systems.

We spent an hour and a half with Apple accessibility over this the other day and they were perplexed as we were as why the iPhone now does this when it
didn't before.  We don't know which update in the iOS 14... screwed things up but, it most certainly did!  When I pointed out to the Apple accessibility
person what a safety hazard this is, people having to take their eyes off the road to look at the map on the damn Iphone, that's when she really started
seeing our point, especially when I told her if someone sues Apple because they had to take their eyes off the road to look at the phone.

Stay safe and take care.  Mike.

Hi Group,

Originally, I had tried turning the phone on and off, but it did not
work. I was using the Tribbit Blue tooth Smart Speaker. I resolved the
issue itself by telling Siri to turn on VoiceOver and then turning on
the speaker. VoiceOver came clearly through the speaker in all
aspects. then I turned off the speaker and everything returned to
normal. It is as if the iPhone was in some sort of search mode for the
Tribbit and it had to sync up again in order to fully disconnect. that's
just my guess, but all seems well now. I tried turning the system on
and off and the speaker on and off and connecting and reconnecting with
no problem: go figure. Maybe it was a fluke of some sort and won't
happen again; or maybe if it does, at least I'll know how to deal with
it--weird beasts these new fangled electronics!

Quick setting for Outlook with NVDA?

Marie Nelson

Is there a way to do setting for individual apps like with Jaws?

I want NVDA to automatically read the next message after deleting one. Right now, it opens the message but I have to prompt it to begin reading.

Thanks, Marie

Lately, in my case, there are times, when it seems like Speech is off on my phone, and I just turn it off, then back on, and it works. I don't know what causes these quirks. I have the latest update on my iPhone 11.

Hi Group,

I am not sure just how this happened, but it began after I listened to a TV stream through a Blue Tooth Speaker and after I turned the speaker off while it was connected to the iPhone.

What happens now is that VoiceOver will not speak on the home screen or in any apps. When I tell Siri to turn VoiceOver on, Siri says:
'VoiceOver is already on.' At that point using standard navigation gesture, VoiceOver works on the Siri listen screen and if I move to the status bar, it reads the status bar items with standard navigation gestures. But if I then try to press the home key which usually takes me to the first page of apps or back to wherever I was before invoking Siri, speech stops completely.

I never heard anything like this before. Has anyone else experienced this and if so, how is it rectified? Thanks in advance for any help.

It sounds a little similar to problems that occur sometimes when connecting and disconnecting USB sound cards using a computer. I've had some odd problems of the transition not working as it should have and I've had to play around.

I do not know what I did, I guess they have   to facebook   mobile sites, learn something knew. So there is the regular mobile site and there is the basic mobile site. The one you want is the basic mobile site and you will get that message to go back to the regular mobile site. So you can post like before directly off the first page. I just went to

I am using the brave browser. Thanks everyone, cheers Heather

Odd Issue With VoiceOver On iPhone SE 2020

Hi Group,

I am not sure just how this happened, but it began after I listened to a TV stream through a Blue Tooth Speaker and after I turned the speaker off while it was connected to the iPhone.

Hi Cristóbal,

Here's some notes I threw together for using a program called Sharp Keys.  This will do exactly what you want, and I've used this program to remap some
keys myself.

No problems here in my  keyboards that have the applications key.

Hi Rose,

My wireless keyboard doesn't have the application key either. I use a sweet
little key mapping application called sharp keys to map another key I don't use
to the application key. It's very easy to use and free.

Navigation tip:
Setting the punctuation level to read all punctuation will make it much easier to find certain keys.  If you don't set the punctuation to read all you
will need to use the Jaws cursor to read all info for each key.

From: Jeremy Richards
For those of you using laptops you might want to take the following info for
a test drive. I've successfully remapped my windows applications key to be a
second windows key. Normally laptops and netbooks don't have a second
windows key on the right of the spacebar, and because it is so useful to me,
I thought I would find a way of remapping my netbook's keyboard. I tried
KeyTweak but it was presenting me with the actual scancodes rather than
names of keys on my keyboard. I found a neat little utility called SharpKey
which does all the work for you. Definitely helps with windows key + E for
explorer, windows key + r for run dialogue, windows key + F, windows key + T
for task bar and such. You will not be without a context menu key since
shift F10 does the very same thing as the windows applications key.

1. To use this utility you must press enter on the file:
"E:\Downloads\sharpkeys3\SharpKeys.exe." There is no installer and no entry
placed on All Programs menu or Desktop.
2. If it pops up, hit Alt + letter R when the "Open File Security Warning"
pops up. SharpKeys will then present it's user interface.
3. Tab to the Add button" and press enter.
4. You will be placed in a list box containing some 235 items representing
your keyboard's individual keys. Down arrow through this list until you
select the key you want to remap. Since I want to remap my Windows
applications key I will down arrow and select the following key: Special:
Application (E0_5D).
5. Tab about 3 times or until you reach the second list box. you can now
down arrow to select what you would like the new key to be. Since I want to
change the default Windows applications key to a second Windows key to the
right of the spacebar, I will select the following key: Special: Right
Windows (E0_5C)
6. Tab to Ok and hit enter.
7. Tab to "Write to Registry" and press enter.
8. You will receive a prompt informing you that you will need to either
reboot or log off for the changes to take effect.
9. I rebooted and now I have a second windows key to the right of the
spacebar.

Subject: [TechTalk] Remapping keys with a screen reader?

Hello list,

So I recently bought a new mechanical keyboard with brown cherry MX switches to replace my blue cherry MX keyboard that had a jammed spacebar. This new keyboard is ok so far, but one thing that I didn’t realize when buying it is that where the applications key usually is (between the right windows key and right control key), there’s an FN key instead. There are also four keys separate and immediately above the numpad with dedicated functions. From left to right, it’s mute, volume down, volume up and calculator.

Not having the applications key where it usually is isn’t a deal breaker necessarily, but I’d like to be able to have an applications key on this full keyboard instead of having to use the shift+F10 command. My impulse is to remap the dedicated calculator key on the top far right of the keyboard since I never ever use the built in windows 10 calculator app and from what I read, it’s not really possible to remap the dedicated FN key, but as I’ve never bothered to look into doing such a thing since I never had to undertake such a task, I have no idea how accessible the process is or if there’s maybe a free app out there that can do this if it’s not possible in Windows 10 alone.

My main screen reader is Jaws, but I also have NVDA on this machine.

Any input would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Cristóbal

Hi, Heather, go to: m.facebook.com  At the top of the page, you'll find a link that says, "Switch to the basic mobile site." Press Enter.

Then, press the letter E until you hear something like "Write a post." After typing what you want to say in the edit field, tab once, and you'll be at the Post button. Press Enter, and you're done. I hope that helps.

Jaws windows 10 and office 360

Tariq Ali

Hi all
I have been a very competent JAWS user for several years with windows XP and windows seven utilising Microsoft office 2010.

Recently my office has upgraded to Windows 10 and office 360. I seem to be at a loss with a lot of the functionality. I’m not sure whether this is a jaws issue or whether it is my unfamiliarity with Windows 10 and office 360. I am wondering if there are any resources out there that someone could recommend which I could access.  Alternatively if anybody can recommend any training material that would be also good.

Regards
Tariq

its pretty strait forward but take the time to read the user guide. Hope this helps.

Thank you,

Cristóbal

Heather:

I haven't used Facebook on the computer in a long time so I have no idea what they have done.  It used to be very easy.  You should be able to go to what's on your mind and enter there and type your post and then tab to where it says post and then enter.  Facebook is doing something different all around.  I don't like what they have done on the app.  Now when I go through my news feed or my notifications and I click on one of my friends, after I comment or like something, there is no back button.  You now have to scrub the screen with 2 fingers to make it go back where you can start looking at other posts.  It's a pain in the neck and I wish they would leave things alone.  Hope this somewhat helps.

Hello, this may sound like a strange question but, how do you get your post to post off face book

? I use the face book mobile site and in the past, you could get directly to where you posted something but, now it changed and it does not matter which browser I use, it no longer goes directly to where I can post.

I did see where it says press inter to post but, it never works.

I tried both jaws 2021 and NVDA. I can get directly to where I can post off my iPhone but, not my computer

. So what am I missing, face book used to be so easy in the past.

I have been posting off my iPhone so I did not see the changes they made to face book off the pc. I think my last post off the pc was in August.

Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks Heather
