Hi Sam,

Can you tell me how to download this extension so I can save it?  I'm only finding an , Add extension option, which I've done to both Chrome and Brave, but I like to have the extensions I like saved so they're available locally for whatever reason.  Thanks much.

Take care.  Mike.  Sent from my iBarstool.

This is one of my major annoyances with Chrome. You may has seen a thread on the Brave Browser which is very similar to Chrome, except that it is faster in my opinion, and importantly, you can select to have it prompt for where you would like your file saved which can act as a prompt.

It also supports Chrome add-ons.

Alternatively, here is an add-on you can install into Chrome.

I get that as well. I can't remember if I got notified before I installed the extension. I'll have to disable it and down load something to see if I still get notified.

When I started using Chrome a few years ago, I have always been able to tell when a download was complete. Chrome has always announced that the download was complete and gave me the option to Shift F6 to the Downloads area. I've had the same experience with the new Edge. Did I turn on a feature in chrome without knowing it? If I did and someone knows how this is done, can you post it for the group?

Hi all,

The location for downloads is in Chrome's settings menu. There is nothing wrong with the ability of Chrome to download files to whatever location you want.

I repeat! My problem was knowing *when* the browser was downloading a file and *when* it was finished. I entitled my original post 'sounds for Chrome' in the belief that it would be clear enough as to what I was seeking.

Please try to read carefully, or ask for clarification before assuming that you understand what is going on or coming off or whatever. <smiling> It just makes conversation so much easier!

Re: Sounds for Chrome?

Good morning all,

I beg to differ, Gene. I don't mind *where* the thing downloads its files. I know where that is, and I can easily get to it when I want to do that. What I strongly object to is clicking on a download link and having the browser sit there, silently, no progress bar, no alert tone, nothing! I downloaded a file seven times last night, seven times, God bless it, all because I didn't know Chrome was downloading the blessed file. It's like people who come along and do something for you or move something or clean something and never say a word. It aggravates me to distraction! I want to *know* if Chrome is downloading something! I want to know when it's done doing so!

I can find 'downloads' in This PC perfectly well. I can also move the downloaded file if I want to do so. File location wasn't the problem at all.

Re: OE 6 for windows 10

Hi Troy,

If you go with POP3 and get used to deleting the messages from your delete folder you should be okay.  But, every now and then you might forget and the good thing is that email doesn't take up much room.  You could actually experiment with both IMAP and POP3 to see which suits your needs the best.  It only takes a couple of minutes to set up an identity once you know the settings and OE6 is really easy to configure once you've done it a couple of times.

Re: Sounds for Chrome?

Gene

You can have Chrome prompt for where a download occurs. If a feature that should be expected seems not to be in a program that has been around for years, ask about it instead of assuming it isn't. I doubt any competent browser designer would not have such an option in a popular browser when it has been widely available for decades in popular browsers.

I'm not saying which browser is better, I'm saying that the evident lack of such a feature is implausible to the point where it should be checked.

Re: Sounds for Chrome?

There may be some sort of sounds add-on but you will be using it to the detriment of learning the actual program. You will know when a download is occurring if you tell the program to always ask where a file should be downloaded to before downloading.
Open the menu hold alt and type f.
There is a search field you will be in or very close to when settings opens.
Treat it like a web page edit field, turning off browse mode or the virtual pc cursor if necessary.
You want information on downloads. Search for downloads.
After typing that word, tab until you get to a button for asking where to save a file. You may have to tab twenty times.
Press the space bar.
There is no ok button. The change has already been made. Leave the settings page as you would leave any web page.
You will now always know when you are saving a file.
Also, if a download is long enough, Chrome will announce and announce and announce how much time is remaining and other information. It will announce it even if you aren't in the program window and it will interrupt, it is forced speech, anything you are doing. it has been this way for a long time and people should be rising up and complaining to the Chrome developers about this behavior. If they want the behavior to be an option, fine, but it should be off by default. This isn't accessibility. It’s a sighted person's nightmare of what accessibility should be and is another example of how sighted developers always know best and don't properly have things evaluated by blind people before incorporating them in prohgram after program.

There is an add-on you can get to stop this behavior. I don't know what the add-on is, I don't use it but it is a completely unacceptable way to deal with a nightmare accessibility feature in the program itself.

Hi Troy,

I'm not going to get too deep into the mud with this, but the dude, Rafail
B, who tweaked OE6 for Win 7, 8 & 10 is no longer supporting it. I don't
know what version of OE6 you're running, but the best version, OE2.2.1,
requires a key code and you can no longer get key codes since the program is
no longer being supported. I wrote the steps for importing an address book

version with no problems, but like I said I don't know what version you're
running and don't know if they'll work in older versions.
Here you go:

1. Open the OE address book with, Control, shift + B.

2. Open the file menu with, Alt + F, and press the letter I, for Import, or
down arrow to Import and press enter.

3. You'll be on, Address book, dso down arrow to, Other address book..., and
press enter.

4. You're now in the address book import tool, in here you have several
choices, but you want to down arrow to, text file comma separated values,
and press enter.

5. Now tab to the, Browse button, and press the spacebar.

6. Now navigate to your .CSV file and press enter, tab to, next, and press
enter.

7. Tab to, Finish, and press enter. You should get a dialogue saying the
import completed, press the spacebar on, Okay, and tab to close and press
the spacebar.
Now press, Control, shift + B, to open your address book to see your work.

If you would have read the message you replied to you would have seen the steps for importing the address book as a CSV file!  LOL

Take care.  Mike.  Sent from my iBarstool.
I don't know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everybody.

To import the address book as a CSV file, you first have to open the address
book, then use the import feature there.  I haven't used Outlook Express for
a long time and I don't remember how you open the address book.  If you look
through the menus, you may well find out.  I have a vague memory that it is
in tools.  I have a more or less vague memory that alt t, then a may open
the addressbook.  Look through the menus when you are in the address book
part of the program.  You only see wab because you are in the main part of
the program.

I wrote the steps for importing an address book
as a, .CSV file, and hopefully they'll work for you.  I run the OE 2.2.1
version with no problems, but like I said I don't know what version you're
running and don't know if they'll work in older versions.

Contact me off list for more help.

Subject: [TechTalk] OE 6 for windows 10

I saw a thread recently on OE 6 but I don't have any of those messages
so I'll just start a new thread.

I want to try OE 6 in windows 10 because I was a long time OE user
before coming into windows 10 and I just recently found out that OE 6
works with 10. I use thunderbird now though, and when I tried to export
my thunderbird address book to import it into OE 6 I exported it as a
.csv file but it appears that the only format OE 6 will import from is
.wab. I didn't see .wab as an option in thunderbird to export to however
so what can I do?

Also I want to set my gmail account as iMap in OE 6 but I can't figure
out how to change it from pop3. Can this be done and if so how? There's
a combo box there but it appears that the only option is pop3.

I want to set the account as iMap because I occasionally check my mail
on my phone and I don't want to end up seeing the same message on my
computer after seeing it on the phone.

Thanks in advance for any help with these questions.

Troy

How to access files and folders on BrailleNote BT32 in Windows 10?

Steven Johnson

I have some BARD books that did not seem to unzip correctly when I copied the .Zip files to my SD Card and then unzipped them with the BrailleNote itself.  I would like to access the folders and files on my BrailleNote BT32 with my Windows 10 machine to more quickly clean up the mess.  The solutions in the manual refer to an application called Key Sync, but I am unclear about where to download it, or whether or not I can use it with Windows 10.  My question is:  How do I get at my files and folders on the BrailleNote through Windows with my BrailleNote hooked up to the computer?
