To import the address book as a CSV file, you first have to open the address book, then use the import feature there. I haven't used Outlook Express for a long time and I don't remember how you open the address book. If you look through the menus, you may well find out. I have a vague memory that it is in tools. I have a more or less vague memory that alt t, then a may open the addressbook. Look through the menus when you are in the address book part of the program. You only see wab because you are in the main part of the program.

Hi Troy,

I'm not going to get too deep into the mud with this, but the dude, Rafail
B, who tweaked OE6 for Win 7, 8 & 10 is no longer supporting it. I don't
know what version of OE6 you're running, but the best version, OE2.2.1,
requires a key code and you can no longer get key codes since the program is
no longer being supported. I wrote the steps for importing an address book
as a, .CSV file, and hopefully they'll work for you. I run the OE 2.2.1
version with no problems, but like I said I don't know what version you're
running and don't know if they'll work in older versions.
Here you go:

1. Open the OE address book with, Control, shift + B.

2. Open the file menu with, Alt + F, and press the letter I, for Import, or
down arrow to Import and press enter.

3. You'll be on, Address book, dso down arrow to, Other address book..., and
press enter.

4. You're now in the address book import tool, in here you have several
choices, but you want to down arrow to, text file comma separated values,
and press enter.

5. Now tab to the, Browse button, and press the spacebar.

6. Now navigate to your .CSV file and press enter, tab to, next, and press
enter.

7. Tab to, Finish, and press enter. You should get a dialogue saying the
import completed, press the spacebar on, Okay, and tab to close and press
the spacebar.
Now press, Control, shift + B, to open your address book to see your work.
Contact me off list for more help.

Take care. Mike. Sent from my iBarstool.

Also I want to set my gmail account as iMap in OE 6 but I can't figure

Re: How do I add an item to Dropbox?

Gene

Its probably the same problem that has been discussed here for months. The person has probably finally received a new version of the program and it needs to be set to display files in file explorer.
Open the Dropbox icon in the system trray. I'm not sure if left click or double left click will both work.
In the menu that opens, find and open preferences.
Tab to an item that says something like display files in, though I'm not sure just what it will sayy.
Up and down arrow until you are in an item that says file explorer.
Tab to and activate the ok button.
Now open the program window and see if you can work with files as previously.

Troy,

You can make a 2nd GMail account / identity as an IMAP account / identity.  But, you don't really need to do that if you set up your POP3 account to save a copy of your messages on the server, and also set OE to delete the messages from the server when you delete the messages from the delete folder.  I get my email from both POP3 & IMAP identities on 6 different computers and 2 homes.  I rarely have any problems, but that's mainly from learning from mistakes.

In Outlook, you can set JAWS to read a message automatically when it opens. Also, the read to end command works in the message body. I hope that helps.

I've tried Leasey, but it wreaks havoc with my braille display. So, since JAWS indicates spelling errors, I correct them as I go, using the applications menu when necessary. Then, when I press F7, I just get a dialog saying no errors were found. I hope that helps.

If you are dissatisfied with the results of the method I described, your way will give a lot more results from one site. But Google is a consumer product and it is made to try to meet the users needs for the user who knows almost nothing about searching. I almost nevber have to use the method you suggest. I almost always find what I want within the results from Youtube. If I don't, then I'll try your method but I keep things simple and I almost always get the results I want.

Your system should not be sending automatic requests so there could be a virus a browser issue that is sending out information that you are not aware of. Suggest to clear cookies/cache from your browser. If you continue to get the error, try a different browser to see if it is your system or the browser or a browser extension. If it continues with a different browser, then you may want to run a deep virus scan of your system.

Some sites try to use trackers or other ways to collect info from your system but if those are blocked, then the captcha may not trigger even though text that is not blocked still displays indicating the captcha. This is another way Google and others are trying to circumvent your privacy settings to collect your private info.

To use a search engine to search within a specific website, you should identify the search criteria and the actual domain. For example, if you want to search for dog training videos on youtube then enter "dog training site:youtube.com" (without the quotes). The search results should only show matches from youtube. This approach seems to work for most search engines.

Hope this helps~

Use something like Google to search. Use syntax like name of what you are searching for, then write youtube and search. For example, Mother-in-law youtube. Or Mother-in-law name of group, year, however you want to increase the specificity of the search, then youtube.

Subject: Re: [TechTalk] converting an AVI file to mp3 with GoldWave

You need to install a lame.dll encoder to accomplish this (steps and links below).

GoldWave Frequently Asked Questions:

https://goldwave.com/faq.php#recsrc

How do I save files in MP3 format?

To save and create MP3 files the LAME MP3 Encoder must be installed. Recent versions of GoldWave include the encoder. Some older versions download it automatically if you have an active Internet connection when you save the first MP3 file. However due to a change in the the web server, older versions of GoldWave may not be able to download the encoder automatically.

To manually install LAME:

list of 3 items nesting level 1

1. Download the LAME_ENC.DLL encoder

list of 2 items nesting level 2

◦ 32 bit version:

https://goldwave.com/downloads/lame_enc.dll

◦ 64 bit version:

https://goldwave.com/downloads/lame_enc64.dll

list end nesting level 2

2. Copy the LAME_ENC.DLL file into your GoldWave folder. If you downloaded the 64 bit version, rename the file from LAME_ENC64.DLL to LAME_ENC.DLL.

3. Now when you try to save a file as MP3 in GoldWave, use the Browse button instead of the Download button on the Encoder Download window to specify the folder where the LAME_ENC.DLL file is located.

Excel file format question

Good morning,

I have downloaded a record of activity from my bank in the form of a .csv file (comma separated values).  Opening this file with Excel causes it to hang.  It seems that, in the past, Excel opened these files; but not now.

Seems that, in this file, records are separated by carriage returns; and each field within a record are surrounded by quotes and separated by commas.

How should I modify this .CSV file to get Excel to open it?

Thank you anybody

Howard

Evidently, you can use read to end elsewhere but just not in whatever e-mail program you are using. I have no idea why. Read to end is supposed to move or more or less simulate moving down line by line and reading as it goes.

What e-mail program are you using? When presenting a problem, the program being used is important to specify.

For now, What happens if you issue the reply command, then read.
In addition, what happens if you tab once in the message body, then read.

Re: question aboutexternal hard drives

Monte Single

Hi Shirley,

The only external harddrives I know of for windows machines ar u s b;  that is, the drikve connects to the computer with a u s b cable.

With some drives, especially  the ones that are 4 tb and less, also use this u s b cable for their power.

Most usb drives these days, are u s b 3 or higher.  Newer machines can also support a u s bb c drive which is faster than a usb 3 drive.

You us can use the same cable to connect a drive to either u s b 2 or 3.

U s b 3 drives are quie fast wheter plugged into a desktop or a laptop.

You would really only nnotice the difference if you were transferring large amounts of data like hundreds of gigabytes of a few thousand tarabytes.  That will take a while no matter what you are using.

If you use a an external drive that gets its power from a wall plugin, it will make no difference as the transfer speed is determined by  the type of u s b connection.

Mac machines use something called a thunderball connection; I know nothing about these.

I purchased   a 4 tarabyte usb drive a month ago. The u s b cable connected it to the computer and provided the poer.  It cost 112 u s dollars.
