Re: accessible disk imaging software.

Are there any podcasts that demonstrate how to create this magical talking PE disk, plus a demonstration of how to use it to restore a backup image from an external hard drive without sighted help of any kind? The owner/moderator of the defunct JAWS Users email list, David Ferrin, who has apparently vanished into the ether, created a podcast on his Help page that demonstrated how to use Image for Windows with a series of CD's to restore a backup image, but this was years ago before he shut down the list and help site, and Image for Windows is apparently a much different program now.

Here's the bottom line.  There is no inmaging program that is completely accessible.  Macrium Reflect is accessible only for creating the backup image on an external hard drive.  But sighted assistance is needed to restore this image because there is no speech available during the restoration procedure.  This is true of all imaging programs; the backup procedure may be accessible, but sighted help is almost certainly needed to restore the saved image.

Hi all,

You can type whatever keyword you want in the search field of BEX. Don't know why you're thinking you can only search by title.

From main menu, press ctrl-s and type in the author's name, lastname
first e.g. Weber, David. You can search by book number too.

If you are  using the Stable version it won't work, but the dev version where F9 apparently works, do this:

1. After the web page loads press Alt + D, this will take you to the address bar

2. Tab once, if the Immersive Reader is available, you will hear, “Enter Immersive Reader”

3. Press spacebar or enter to activate the button, the web page is reformatted and you can now read it without almost all of the clutter you normally find.

If you want to exit immersive reader just repeat the above steps, it will say “Exit Immersive Reader” when you get to the button. It’s a very simply 2-step
key combination followed by enter or spacebar to activate.

I still see little or no difference. If I used split points, there may be something I don't know that might change my mind, but at this point, I see no meaningful difference between naming something as I save it such as 01 Back in the U..S.S.R. or entering almost the same information using control n at the split point.

In general, this is not necessary. You may enter a track name with
Ctrl-N at every split point or at the beginning of file. Then, on
invoking Save Split dialog, change track name template to e.g. %N-%T and
to create two-digit track numbers, enter '01' instead of '1' in the '%N
begins with:' field.

This way you have to save each track one by one which for me is tedious
enough. To put a cue splitting point, get to desired place, put either a
beginning or end of selection mark and then press Delete or C key. After
putting all cue points, go to File -> Save Split or press Ctrl-T and
change track name or ID3 tag templates if necessary. The tracks will
then be saved all at once.

First, remove any blank space or space at the beginning of the file containing audio.
Set the start marker at the beginning of the file with b. Move to where you want the file to begin and press n to set the end marker. Then press the delete key.
Now, set the start marker again at the beginning of the file. This would be the first song, in this case.
Move to the end of the song and set the end marker.

The command is control e. Write the name you want to give the song and press enter.
The song will be saved. After you save it, delete it with the delete key.

I am assuming that there is some blank space between songs. Move to the start of the song, set the end marker just before the beginning, and delete.

Hi.

You don't need a wire.

Follow the instructions here.

Basically, power it on, connect your laptop or phone, connect to the extender with a web browser, and follow the prompts. The link above gives you more details.

Interesting, I was thinking that Image for Windows could successfully create incremental backups, but apparently you are correct, it only does full and differential backups because of incremental backups tending to be troublesome.

That's why there is the windows talking PE. Between that and something like active@ diskimage lite, you can restore your backups.

Re: a jaws settings question

Thanks Mike. I need to check with my friend because he's been playing the game longer than I have and I know there are limits on the number of players that can be active at any one time but I don't remember what the limits are, maybe I'm just trying to activate too many players and that's why I don't have the okay button.

Another thing I want to try is to load the default settings of jaws 2018, maybe that'll help too if one of the settings I changed is the one causing the problem.

Have you tried exporting your J18 settings, then importing them into J2020?  You could try this just to see if that will help.  But, if you decide to do this backup your J2020 settings beforehand as well so if importing the J18 settings doesn't help you can go back to your original J2020 settings.  Steps are below:

You export all your settings by going into the Jaws context menu with, Jaws key + J, if you run Jaws from the system tray.  Then go to, Utilities / Import
/ Export settings submenu and press enter.  Now arrow down to, Export settings..., press enter, now make sure that the, Export all settings radio  button
is selected.  Tab to, next, press spacebar.  You're now in a dialog to select a name & save location, but the file will already be named and the default
location is the desktop, so tab to finish , press enter and all your settings for that Jaws version will be saved to the desktop.  After you install Jaws
just import this settings file.

Take care and stay safe.  Mike.

Thanks Gene I hadn't thought of that but it makes sense.
