Re: USB device not recognized

Carolyn Arnold

I get that one, when I use my wireless charger that is
connected to a U S P. The computer guy didn't think anything
about it, when my husband mentioned it to him. Finally, it
gives up, if I don't use it for a while.

Hello list
All of a sudden I get the message "the last USB device mal
functioned and is not recognized" when I connect a memory

this problem be solved? This happens even when I use one of
the rear USB ports which I don't use often.

In all probability, no.   It sounds like you've got a USB drive gone bad, which is not an extremely rare occurrence, though it's not anywhere near to a daily one, either.

Test the drive by plugging it in to a computer, if it fails there, then the drive is dead.

As far as your devices, does the PC recognize them via any USB port?  It sounds like there are no device drivers installed for either the Victor Stream or Orbit Reader.

Re: speakers are not announcing scores

Norma A. Boge

I use Amazon smart speakers. It is more difficult to get scores than it used to be. I am able to get in-game scores but I have to be creative when asking. For example, if you can’t get the score using one of the team names, use the other team. Or use both teams, i.e. “what’s the score of the Dodgers Braves game?” I don’t know why it became more difficult to get the scores, but they are available. Also, and I haven’t done this, you may want to find a skill to enable which will make scores easier to get. HTH Norma

Ah yes, thank you for the source! I would thank, the smart speakers would not want this to be taken away after, all they use is a way to sell the speakers! Cheers Heather

Re: nvda doesn't tell me which cells are selected in libreoffice calc.

And is the responsibility with NVDA or with the program itself? Did the program work properly in this respect in the past? Did the same version of the program work properly with an earlier version of NVDA? It may be that NVDA can be made to work properly with this feature of Libre Office, but various programs included with Libre Office have long not been properly accessible. I don't know how the program sends such information to NVDA and it may require the developers of Libre Office to address the problem or it may take unreasonable time and resources for NVDA to correct something that is a fault of the program, given the priorities and resource limitations you spoke of.

Do we know that NV Access is ignoring this issue? We need to consider
that they have many bugs in the queue and that these issues need to be
carefully prioritized and, as we say in the industry, groomed based on
many factors. How severe is the bug? How many users might it affect?
What is the level of effort needed in order to determine what is causing
the issue and what is needed to correct it? How many developers do we
have and which one(s) should be assigned to address it and what is their
current bandwidth and workload? Don't get me wrong; I am not downplaying
the severity of this issue. Not receiving audible or possibly Braille
feedback while selecting cells in a spreadsheet is an accessibility
defect and it should be addressed. I'm only saying that there are many
factors which determine how, when or if it can/will be addressed? I
think that we should be very careful in making statements such as saying
that a company is ignoring an issue just because it hasn't been
addressed or commented on in a Github ticket. There may have been
discussions about prioritizing LibreOffice accessibility issues that we
as end users wouldn't necessarily know about.

On one level, yes. However, please consider that someone who says "I am using the latest version of NVDA might sincerely believe that he is using the very latest version but may actually be using an earlier version without realizing it. He may not have been aware that one or more versions had been subsequently released since the version that he installed or which may have been installed for him. In fact, since a new version of NVDA was just released yesterday I can't assume that the user might actually be aware of this fact. Therefore, a user who tells me that he is using the latest version of a program doesn't actually verify to me that we're talking about the latest version. Specifying version numbers removes this ambiguity.
For LibreOffice, the latest version is 7.0.2. Is this the one you are running?

Re: Visual Studio Questions0

Hi.  I don't code much in cSharp, but with c++ there is a choice during the project creation process where you could create a completely empty application template, then add your own files and boiler plate code.  Perhaps you could search for that option when using cSharp?  Cheers!

00Hello,

I ju0st started to use Microsoft's Visual Studio to Write and Compile C

So far, I have yet to learn how to open up the editor in Visual Studio
to just start writing Code from Scratch.

So far, I need to go through the process of Creating a new application,
which puts me into the editor, but also brings in some Code fragments,
examples etc.  I do not need these extra bits of Code, and would like to
just open the editor to a blank screen, starting the cursor0 at line 1.

I did call the Microsoft Help Desk for the Disabled, but was told they
didn't support Visual Studio, and that I needed to call the normal Tech
channels, which probably means I will need to Pay for the Support, which
I do not intend to do.

So, thought I might ask here before I spent time looking else where.

Anyone know how to open up the editor in VS, to a blank screen, ready to
accept Code being typed into place?

Thanks ahead of time,

Grumpy Dave

As Amazon has some good Prime Day deals on Echo Show products I'm curious
to know if the 5 supports the show and tell feature. I thought that I
remember reading that it does not and someone on another list felt that it
was not a great product. Just want to know if it is it worth buying but my
main question is whether it supports show and tell, which is where it can
identify objects. Many thanks.

Try Googling Ray Star's world. You should be able to find a ton of described moovies. The only thing I don't like is that they were not in an organized list, have no descriptions of what it's about, and I've found movies with an error that makes it undownloadable, but So far when I notified the host, he very quickly repairs it. And what about the Blind Mice Movie Vault?

The site went down last night and it is still down I get the error message can't display the web page. I just google it to see if the site had changed but I got the same site with the same error message. This was the very best way to download dvs movies so now what do we do?
