Re: KaiOS on the Alcatel GoFlip 3

Gene

You don't need an account to use the phone. I don't recall all the things you can do with one, I believe one thing you can do is back up things to the cloud, perhaps text messages and I'm not sure what else.

You may want to wait to set up an account to do so with sighted hellp. You can get beyond the screen that says user name by placing an e-mail address in that field. I don't know what else the screen may say. The screen-reader evidently reads something that is misleading by itself about what is wanted. I discovered the e-mail address solution by experimenting, but while that seems to be right, I can't verify it because I can't get information on the screen to read. Its probably correct, though.

You can change the case of what is typed with the pound key, the key on the farthest botttom right of the key board, to the right of the 0.

I'm not sure if this works as it sounds as though it does, but probably when you are in the upper case setting, all letters are capitals. Small is probably all small. there is a setting called capitalize which probably capitalizes the first letter of a sentence and writes everything else in small letters, but I haven't verified that. That is the setting I usually use when texting and using the keyboard input.

but if you are waiting to use the phone until you have set up a KAIOS (spelling) account, there is no need. You can use the phone either way.

Hey All,

So I have the phone and had help putting in the wifi password. I have the accessibility turned on.

First thing first creating a KaiOS account. There seems to be no easy way to do this… I have no idea how to get past the thing where it tells you why you should create one.

I also dunno how to type in with capitals. I know how to type letters, and I know for examples that hitting the number 2 for times will put in the number 2 four example.

I think if I get help to set up KaiOS for the updates and set up my Gmail I can do a lot of this with voice.

Yes, but you must install each into a different folder.

No, my friend does not have JAWS. His computer is a 3rd-party Mac. It
very much appears that he has to be able to do this from the Braille
unit itself.
Thanks,

Re: Teresa Reply - Focus 14 Braille unit

Teresa Arroyo Llosa

Hello,

Have you got JAWS on your computer? If so, go to the setting center and select default. Then go to braille and you will find the different settings for your display. There is one that will let you change from eight to six-dot, but I don't remember which item it is. You will have to explore. I suppose NVDA has the same options, but I use JAWS, so I don't know how it works in that Screen reader. I have a PC, so I don't know if apple has a different way in screenreader functioning.

As to leaving your display on, if it is connected to your computer with a USB cable then, it should turn on or off depending on if your computer is on or off. If you mean, having it on if the computer is on, the dots of the cells will stand up after a certain amount of time (you can set that time in your display's settings.

I hope this helps.

From my friend with the Focus 14:
I don’t have my Focus 14 paired to my Apple Mac Mini computer. It’s hooked up with a USB Cable. And the 8 cord didn’t change it from 8 to
6 dots. This is considered a third party product, and the instructions said that this device might not function as it should.
So I think that I’ll have to learn how to read what I need to read in the 8 dot mode. However I was reading some text on one of the stations site that I do an internet rare oldies show for last night.
And the display wasn’t showing in 8 dot mode. But when I went back to my Mac Mini, 8 dot returned.
Can I leave my display on all the time without doing damage to it?
Thanks for your help.

The quick way to check your version is, with Internet Explorer open press,
Insert, control + V, and Jaws will report...

The latest version of Internet Explorer is Version 11.00.9600.19597

To make sure your IE11 updates automatically, with IE11 open press, Alt + H,

to open Help then press the letter, A, to open About.

Now you're probably at the bottom of the page, so up arrow to hear, Install

You shouldn't do it. the user isn't given the option to do so in
addd/Remove programs. It isn't just a browser, parts of it are used in
Windows itself. Programs usually don't take that mudch room and there is no
reason to worry about deleting programs unless you have a lot of them you
never use.

Hello there,

How would I go about totally deleting Internet Explorer from my Windows 7
computer? Your help would be immensely appreciated.

Re: Deleting Internet Explorer

I gather there is this or that site where IE works better than current browsers. They must be few and far between because I never updated my IE from the version that was in Windows 7 as of 2011, that is, 8.x., I just checked. I have been able to work well with sites in general and just never bothered. If I used Face Book, I would have upgraded because IE worked better. I don't know if it does any more. In short, if sites work well that you use, you may not want to bother.

Stay safe and take care. Mike.

Hi Mike,

I checked the version and found to have 8 point something. I followed your instructions and read Updates: 0. In the about section there was nothing that read install new versions automatically.

Hi Veronica,

The quick way to check your version is, with Internet Explorer open press, Insert, control + V, and Jaws will report...

The latest version of Internet Explorer is Version 11.00.9600.19597

To make sure your IE11 updates automatically, with IE11 open press, Alt + H, to open Help then press the letter, A, to open About.

Now you're probably at the bottom of the page, so up arrow to hear, Install new versions automatically checkbox, make sure this is checked and if it isn't check it with the spacebar.

Stay safe and take care. Mike.

Thanks to all of you for the advice. I don't want to do anything to disturb
my windows 7 computer, as this is my main computer for most things even
though I have a windows 10. So Internet Explorer is here to stay, even
though I am going to use MS Edge. However, I think I somehow deleted an
update to Internet Explorer, and I am wondering how would I go about finding
what version I have of Internet Explorer?

I think IE8 was in Windows 7 at the outset.

Try going to Windows Update and check for updates. Your IE is way behind. IE8 was even an old version for XP, if I'm not mistaken IE in XP was at either IE9 or 10 before XP wasn't supported any more.

Stay safe and take care. Mike.
