Re: frustrated with edge

And it copies almost every announcement the user leaves on such as bloc quote, end of block quote, list, end of embedded list, heading, which is a really bad idea to include in copied text.

I'm not sure which is the default now. There may be times when copying text from a web page that it is better read by a blind user when using the copy from Virtual PC Cursor setting. It often makes no difference. It often is worse for blind and sighted readers of copied text alike. It serves no purpose to hear start of list with five items for a blind user or to read it in Braille output. This isn't a web page you are navigating, it is copied text dealing with something discussed on the page. nor does it accomplish anything for a sighted user to see such announcements.

I don't use JAWS nor Edge, but I doubt that JAWS would have an available setting for copy text from web page if it didn't work in Edge. I would expect it either not to be shown or to be disabled if it didn't work. In short, if the default is copy from web page, I don't think changing this should be advised except as a diagnostic test to see if text can be copied using the virtuaal PC cursor setting. If Edge really won't allow text to be copied from the web page, that is a significant limitation.

Are you saying that JAWS won't copy from the web page if you choose that
setting using Edge? Copying from the virtual PC cursor may be what people
want to use in general, but the other option, copying from the web page, I
don't remember what JAWS calls it, is important if you are ssharing
something with a sighted person and want it to look as much like the web
page as that setting allows.

Also, if you copy from the virtual PC cursor, all the useless nonsense so
many people allow such as start of list, end of list, start bloc quote, end
bloc quote, and everything else that is just clutter when reading, will be
included in the copy. Some people may want such information when navigating
a web page, but in copied text, its just clutter. I don't want to impose it
on blind people for no reason, nor on sighted people.

When you have Edge open put in a search term and press enter to get a page
loaded or you won't get the correct options showing in the next step.
Now press, Insert + V, to open the quick settings.

Down arrow to Virtual cursor options and right arrow to open if it's closed.

Down arrow to Select and copy... if it says Select and copy from Virtual
cursor you're good, but if it says anything else press the spacebar to
toggle through the settings until Jaws reports Select and copy from virtual
cursor, now tab to Okay and press enter to save / close.

Hi,

So many things I cannot do with edge that I could do with other browsers. Is
there a setting I need to change on edge?

Here are some examples of basic things I'm trying to do.

Copy text from a website, and accessing the address bar which I thought alt
d would do the trick but when I do alt d, nothing.

Any assistance is always appreciated.

And my point is that there is nothing unethical about an end user blocking it.  I pay for my internet service, I pay for my computer, I do have the absolute right to determine what I do and do not choose to look at.

It is not my fault if the current business model is an "eyeball counter via presentation" model.  And that's really not my concern.  The owners of websites actually do have the power to insist this not be the case, and that's the only way change will be made.

My point is that the Brave browser doesn't track you and it blocks a lot of gtrackers web sites put on many browsers. Firefox blocks a lot of trackers as well. Brave doesn't display target advertising which requires the user being tracked. Since sites are paid by Brave through nontargeted ads being shown, that is a much more ethical way to deal with advertising than just blocking it.

It's a browser extension. You'll need to download and install it. I've used it once a while ago, but worried about the  privacy implications. It did work fine for me when I used it, but that was a couple years ago.

I'm not sure how to set the Brave browser to allow their own ads to be displayed.  You may have to do something to allow sites to be paid.  I read instructions but I couldn't figure out how to turn the features on I wanted to turn on.  What I read wasn't clear enough to let me know if accessibility had anything to do with the problem or not.  Others may know how to do these things.  If they can be done, I consider the Brave way of dealing with advertising to be more ethical than using an ad blocker with another browser.  Sites do deserve to make money from advertising.  but the amount of tracking that is done is an invasion of privacy.

Re: frustrated with edge

By the way, what version of Edge is being talked about in the original message?

There are still some machines out there that, for whatever reason, never got the update from Edge Original to the new Chromium-based edge, and the behavior of the two is very different in a number of respects.  If hitting ALT+F gets you to the Edge menu then you have the new Chromium-based Edge.  If it doesn't, you're still on Edge Original (and if memory serves ALT+X brings up the Edge menu).

If you have Edge Original ditch it, as it's being ditched entirely by Microsoft with the 20H2 feature update.

Alt d never copies text. It moves you to the address bar in the browsers I've used. Control c copies text.

I haven't used Edge and unless someone can tell me meaningful advantages of doing so, I see no reason to. the Brave browser is, very likely a better browser. It helps you hnot be tracked, it substitutes its own ads for web site adevertisements and the ads aren't targeted, and the web site receives money from the ads the Brave browser shows, thus not just blocking ads, but paying sites. It is attempting to have an ethical way of dealing with advertising. And it is much faster at loading pages because it loads it own ads and doesn't load nearly as much material.

up in the Outlook desktop app for instance, it would be blocked until you allowed the use of less secure apps. As for the exact process, here are the steps
if you are using the basic html setting in the online Gmail interface:

1. Log into your Gmail inbox.
Note:  If you use the, Links List keystroke, Insert + F7, to find the links in steps 2,3 and 4 along with first letter navigation it'll make things go much faster.

2. Press, Insert + F7, to open the links list, press the letter, S, to find  the, settings link and press enter.

3. Press, Insert + F7, to open the links list, press the letter, G, to find  the, Google account link, and press enter.
Make sure it's the, Google Account link and not Gmail account link.

4. Press, Insert + F7, to open the links list, press the letter, S, to find  the, Security link, and press enter.

5. Press, Insert + F7, to open the links list, press the letter, L, to get to the, Less Secure App Access, link.

 6. Now down arrow to find an, On link, to toggle on the use of less secure apps, it could also be a checkbox.
Note:  I'm not sure if there's a save settings button or not, but it wouldn't hurt to look.

Finished.

Hi Mike,
Thank you for your suggestions. I've been trying to do that al this time that I took before responding to you. Just for the record, I explained in my previous message that I was able to find the less secure applications check box and I did check with no positive result. Google keeps blocking my accounts from both outlook express and thunderbird. However, after your suggestions, I wasn't able to find that check box any more no matter what I did.
I have the same experience in windows 7 and 1-. Idon't what to do.
Thanks again.

Again, the steps above apply if you are using basic html in the web interface of your Gmail account. If you are not, I’m sure you could Google the steps
otherwise.

Subject: [TechTalk] Help needed regarding setting security options in Gmail

Hi guys,
I have encountered a problem lately. I have outlook express on my
windows 7 laptop that I have been using until a bout a couple weeks when
I started using my desktop which also has windows 7 but with mozella
thunderbird. Being a newby in thunderbird, thereare certain things that
i do with outlook express that I don't how to carry them out in
thunderbird. So, yesterday I went back to my laptop to do those tasks in
outlook express only to find out that google is blocking me from
accessing my account stating that it does not allow a less secure third
party application to access my account. I actually have two mail
accounts. the main one which I have configured on both my laptop/outlok
express  and desktop/thunderbird has no issues. my second account which
is only configured on my laptop/outlook express  is the one being
blocked now. I tried to configure it in thunderbird on my desktop. The
same issue persisted. It was blocked due a less secure third party email
client. I also tried to tell google to accept less secure applications,
but to no avail. Any Ideas please?
Thanks in advance
