DBX files are hidden files so you will either have to have the computer set to display hidden files or you will have to tell search to show hidden files.

Hi Howard,

I wonder if your deleted items folder got corrupt some how.  If it did, you could find the deleted items.dbx file under that long path for
XP that I cannot now remember or just search for deleted items.ddx and you should find it.
So to summarize:

1.  close Outlook Express.

2.  Find that deleted items.dbx file.

3.  delete it.

4.  Launch Outlook Express again.

When you launch Outlook Express again, it should automatically create the deleted items.dbx file again.  Then try deleting and see what happens.

recovering a Word document

Hi all,

Somehow I've lost a Word document with several pages of businesses and phone numbers in it, when I pull up that file now it has something there instead.  I know how it happened and it was my error, but is there any way of recovering the lost file?  Btw I think this is Word 2007 but I'm not sure and I'm running windows 7 here.

Thanks.

Hi all,

Regarding my problem of not being able to pull up any web pages because IE wouldn't activate, I rebooted and that problem seems to be solved.  I don't understand why a reboot helped since the computer had been shut down from last night until a couple of hours ago and that was after I reinstalled the printer driver and ended up with chrome and the google tool bar, but I'm okay with that remaining a mystery.

can't pull up any web pages

Troy Burnham

Hi all,

Yesterday I had to reinstall a printer driver and when I did both google chrome and a google tool bar got installed.  I uninstalled both of them, and from there I don't remember what I did but I remember being asked if I wanted IE as my default browser and I said yes, but I'm on the computer for the first time today and I've tried to launch a couple of different web pages and nothing happens.  And when I mean nothing, the pages I'm trying to launch are in my favorites but when I highlight one and hit enter it just sits there.

What I did yesterday could be a coincidence but either way what can I do?

Thanks.

I was pointing  it out not just in this case, but because I often see this happen, where someone asks how to do something but doesn't give any background, resulting in a lot of discussion that doesn't effectively answer what the person wants to do.  I hope you get help with the problem if you want to use gold Wave for conversion.

Re: Amazon fire stick

Michael Boyd <mike122061@...>

Hi Bill,

I have a couple of the Fire Sticks. I don't know of any way of turning up the voice on the Stick from within the devices interface. I have found that if the TV that you are using the Fire Stick on has an audio device that you can adjust the sound quality by, e.g. an equalizer or just a separate bass and treble control, you can bring the Fire Stick voice more out to the front. Usually, I find that I must boost the treble a little, and reduce the bass some as well. Some TV's these days have an equalizer in the Audio adjustment wizard.

Hi Debbie,

I can’t say that I really know. I have an iCloud email account, but only have it set up on my iPhone. However, I would call Apple Accessiblity support and ask them what the server settings are for setting it up on a 3rd party device. It seems that they should be the same on any device, but with Apple you never know.

Hi All,

Running Windows 7 64 Bit with Jaws.  Last week I upgraded this computer by installing an SSD, &updated the Realtek soundcard to a soundcard with an equalizer, the prior Realtek didn't have the equalizer.  The young man doing all the work also created a profile in the equalizer named, Mike, but now that added profile / enhancement can't be found in the list of enhancements by a sighted person or my screenreader.  This Mike equalizer profile needs to be removed because it's messing with the overall sound, but since I can't find it to delete it my only option, that I can think of, is to take the soundcard back to its defaults.  I cannot find a reset option so, how do I get this Realtek High Definition Audio Driver             reset back to its defaults?  All help will be greatly appreciated.  Thanks much.
Take care.  Mike.  Go Dodgers!

Re: wps feature on wifi devices

You are thinking of Wi-Fi Protected Access WPA and WPA2 which are encryption security protocols. WPS AKA Wi-Fi Protected Setup is a security standard for establishing connections to a wireless network without having to enter the password. They are two different things.

George, WPS is just a form of encryption so that I don't come creeping into
your network unsuspectingly. It's a protocol that precedes iOS, works like
a charm in Android land where I am so busy hiking up and down mountains and
having fun with gazelles; so iOS should have it, just check your WI-FI
network settings parameters.

Sincerely,

I don't see why it shouldn't.

Thanks for the info but do you mean press and release on the router and
then press and release on the other device?

You should press the WPS button on the router first and then the WPS
button on the device. On a computer, you would press the WPS button on the
router and then select the wireless network to which you want to connect.

Subject: [TechTalk] wps feature on wifi devices
Hello list
I notice that more wifi devices have wps buttons which I understand to be
used to exchange settings to setup quickly. Is this feature usable by a
blind person i.e. does one press and hold the wps button on both devices
in for a couple of seconds or how does this feature work?

Re: alternatives to goldwave?

Carlos

Technically a dedicated converter will do the same since the files first have to be decoded before they can be reencoded, even if it is to the same format with different parameters.  Speed is not really the issue.  It is more a matter of simplicity since loading the files and setting new parameters is much more straight forward in a dedicated converter such as Pazera Free Audio Extractor.

and note that you want to convert a compressed format to a compressed format with different parameters.  It will take significantly longer for Audacity and, presumably Goldwave, to import compressed files before converting.  The files, at least in Audacity and, presumably in Goldwave, are not just imported, but there format is changed to some sort of format, perhaps wav, that can be easily worked with by the recording program.  So you are actually spending time to first convert the file to another format the program works with internally for editing and other work, then you are exporting the file again as a compressed format, thus taking the time to first uncompress the format and the compress it again.

There is a recording program called Audacity which you can use to convert files but the problem is the same as I believe would exist in Goldwave, that it would be much slower because the program imports and, after whatever is done, exports the file again.

GoldWave is accessible, but it sounds as if you may be looking for a converter instead of an editor.  You can try Pazera Free Audio Extractor.
https://my.pcloud.com/publink/show?code=XZUfdUZiIXbjJHGOk0EhAQ0L8T3Th7cfUt7

Brief usage instructions:

1. Press Control+O to add specific files to the list or Control+F to add an entire folder.
2. Select the output settings such as the format.
3. Select the output directory or use the default setting which is to use the source/input directory.
4. Press Control+E to convert the files.
Note, you can also find all of these options on the context menu when the list has focus by pressing the Applications key.
