Hi all,

No, that's not the URL being talked about. Supposedly, the main web site for nls was changed on July 9th, and it seemed to work well at the time, but it doesn't now.

The URL which is being discussed is: http://www.loc.gov/nls

Hi Pamela,

I do not own a Roku. When I made the decision to go with the Amazon Fire TV Stick, I had looked at the Fire Stick, the Roku, and the Apple TV. The Apple TV is Very accessible, but also expensive, the Roku does have a model that is accessible now, but not all models are. My brother has had a Roku for a number of years, and when at his house I could never use it myself. The Amazon Fire TV Stick I like very much. It only costs $40, and it is very accessible straight out of the box. Once you unbox it and set it up by plugging it into an open HDMI port on your TV, you press one button on the remote to pair it to the Stick, and when that completes, you press and hold 2 other buttons to turn it's screen reader "Voice View" on. Once it is one, it stays on until you turn it off by pressing the same buttons. So far, I only have Amazon Prime Video and Netfilx to watch, but that is more content than I will ever need. If I can help further, please respond.

Hi Shirley,

The ROKU is a video streaming device that plugs into a HDMI port on your TV. It is very similar to the Amazon Fire TV or the Apple TV. It will come with some apps on it such as Netflix, Hulu, or HBO GO. You will also have the ability to download specific apps that you may want. It is required that you subscribe to these services, but getting 3 or 4 of these is cheaper than cable, and many people are "cutting the cord" these days. The ROKU and the other devices can be picked up at most any electronics store i.e. Best Buy, and of course the Amazon and the Apple devices are available straight from their respective websites. I use the Amazon Fire TV Stick, it is inexpensive and if you are a prime member, you can stream the Amazon Prime Video and the Prime Music through this device. Hth.

They are being received.  On all groups.io lists, there is a policy set up by the owner of the list serve that list administrators can't change.  Any time someone joins a list, there first message must be approved.  That is to stop spam which is, evidently, a problem on some lists.

Also, you don't see your messages when you use GMail.  GMail doesn't send list mail to you that you have sent to e-mail lists.

As far as spam goes, as you asked about on another list, I doubt there is any e-mail provider that doesn't receive spam.  I don't use GMail but I have an account.  It appears to me that the spam filter GMail uses does a good or quite good job of catching spam.

Re: computer hardware recommendations

Dave, If you are setting up your pc for everyday normal use, then you would not need one with nifty specs. My son has a toshiba laptop, I5 processor, 500 GB ssd storage, 4 gb ram, an onboard RealTech sound chip and a NVIDIA graphics chip, more than enough for him to play his games and do his school work. But if you want to use your pc for intensive processing like audio/video editting, hard core pc games, graphics rendering, then you would need more. Perhaps you might want to look at a new motherboard, Asus seems to produce competent ones. I personally prefer one with an intel processor, but again, that is open to debate. Most important is that you look at your needs and plan for purchasing the hardware that will help you most in serving them. Cheers!

recommendations, if anyone has any of this, and could recommend a
reputable product, i'd appreciate it.

I'd like to know how one identifies the various PCI-e slots and what
each one does in terms of performance? I'm wondering where should I
put the graphics card, a second USB card and a bluetooth card are
coming in?

My primary system drive is the 840pro, which I've been told don't
defrag and don't optimize. I was running a defrag on my other drives,
both of which are standard spindle drives, and got the message that
the ssd was not performing optimally and needed to be optimized.
What's up with this?

Also, on drives when accessing one of my spindle drives, one is a 3TB
the other is a 4TB, both SATA 6GBPS as is the ssd, when atempting to
access some directories sometimes access times are slow, other times I
get like 80 items, when in reality there are 300. A few moments later
the rest show up, just enough to be annoying. The spindle drives are
defragged. Could this be an indexing issue? It was also suggested that
the spindle drives might have been asleep when access was atempted. I
was not thinking this was doable.

For hardware anyone have any recommendations for an internal PCI-E
card with an internal 19-pin header? My front two ports are USB3 and
they have such a connector that the board does not have, a separate
card is needed.

Also, does anyone have or have used a 3.5 to 5.25 internal adapter?
Two pieces of hardware came out of my old case, they were in 3.5 in
bays, which this machine only has one. I need to put one of the
devices in to a 5.25 in bay.

Thanks.
Dave.

Re: Download for Windows7 ISOs

Jeremy <icu8it2@...>

Ah, okay, that's excellent. I grabbed the 64 bit edition and have it saved now. I was also able to find the tools I'd used to register the OEM license for the computer, so it looks like I'll be good to go when I remake my image again. it looks like the only real thing I lost was my image of Win10, but I've not really missed it much since I reverted back to 7, so I can live without that one for now.

I'm not sure how much help it might be for anyone else, but I'll post the link where I found the tools that I used previously for re-registering my OEM license for my Windows7 Lenovo. On the page it states that one of the tools does not have support for a few different manufacturers, but it has support for a fair number of them, so it should work well enough for most people. It also mentions a tool that can be used to save the current OEM registration for use if you have to re-install, so here's hoping that it helps someone else as it did for me. This also seems to be one of those things that's mostly specific to Vista/7, so for those who are using XP or versions later than 7, I believe the way OEM registration is handled makes these tools unusable. The page also mentions this, but I figured it was still worth noting.
Take care all and huge thanks again for your help Carlos.

Excellent, I'll grab them, just to keep them archived now that I have a new hd. I don't know all that much about the subject, but I understood that you could use the ultimate ISO to install that and the other versions below it, yes? As a matter of saving space, I was thinking of grabbing that one as well and using it to install professional, but I was unclear on how this install would work inside the PE. I know that you'd previously mentioned that you could use a utility to remove a file from the ISO to do this, but I couldn't recall the name of it.
Anyways, thanks bunches bruddah for the upload, your help is always super appreciated.
Take it easy. :)

Hey all,
I know that here not so long ago on list some downloads for the ISOs for Win7 were posted. I'd had most of the downloads that I wanted so didn't see a need to keep the links or messages. Early last week however, my external decided to crap out, resulting in the loss of the ISO and the backups for 7 that I used when I wanted to restore. I'm in the process of searching down the tool I used to register Windows on my OEM machine and also the drivers for it, but I can't seem to locate a decent place to grab 7pro.

If it'd be possible for someone to post up the link for it or where I might be able to look, I would be most grateful as I'd like to get my backup image recreated.
Thank you bunches and hope everyone is well.
Take care.
