Hi Group,

I know this has been discussed in the past on this and other lists, but I am in the market for a color laser printer. It has to be accessible which means some way of interacting other than the touch screen and voiceless screen on the printer itself.

I called Amazon disability which lists dozens of them. They couldn't help me a lot other than giving me the phone numbers for accessibility for Canon, Xerox and HP.

Here's what happened when I tried these phone numbers:
Xerox the number was disconnected
HP never answered--even after 5 hours on two separate phones Canon answered and a woman with a heavily accented voice assured me that the one she referenced would do the trick. Color imageCLASS MF743Cdw. . This device which it is a bit pricey at $379 US weighs in at a massive
64 pounds. I would consider this more seriously if I could be sure I could lift and position it properly without collapsing my utility table.

So again as I may have done in the past, what are people using for a laser printer and how are they accessing it: app, voiced onboard touch screen, echo device?

Thanks for any help.

Re: accessible heating padd

I have two heating pads. One just has four buttons for low, medium, high and off. The markings by the buttons a slightly different. I haven’t used it a bit but if I recall the button with the smallest dot by it is off, and the button with the largest dot by it is high, with low and medium being somewhere in the middle. I have another one that has a sliding switch with three settings. This is the one I usually use. I’m not sure if you can get the ones with the mechanical switches any more.

Change to the search function

Howard Traxler

Hello All,

Recently there's been a change to the search function in my windows 10 1909.  In the past, I could open a folder in file explorer and hit F3, type into the edit box and wait.  As soon as I stopped typing, it went ahead and did the search; NVDA made the series of ascending beeps and when it stopped, I was at the top of a list of results.  I had only to arrow down and pick the result I wanted to open and press enter.  Lately, when I stop typing the search string, 'tseems I have to do something else (tab or enter) before NVDA starts beeping.  When it's done, I can't seem to find my results.

Anyone know if there is a setting in this search thing that I may have changed or need to change, or, is anyone else having this problem?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Howard

I just upgraded to iOS 14 this past weekend, and I’ve had no trouble with any of the apps I use on a regular basis. They just came out with a 14.1 upgrade, and I think that may have solve some of the problems people were having. So, I think your best solution to the problem with zoom is to upgrade to iOS 14. It takes a while, but I think it’s worth it. Good luck.

Brian,

I was alluding to signing into edge, which I am with my apple ID as my user profile . I says I’m signed in and sync is on. Also has a sign out button which in my initial email I stated I did, then signed again to make sure the credentials I was using were accurate. However, same credentials are not accepted on the edge app on my iPhone when trying to sign in to allow sync of settings.

Alan,

When you say "on my computer" are you talking about logging in to your computer, or logging in to Edge?  You have to establish a sync connection within Edge itself.  Even though most of us use the Microsoft Account linked information for the MS-Account-linked Windows 10 user account we're logged in with, it does not happen automatically.

On the computer, in Edge, hit ALT followed by left arrow, at which point you should be sitting on the Edge Profile button, and hit enter.  See what's shown as far as your being logged in to Edge.  If you are, you should have a Personal profile, the e-mail address associated with it, and a manage profile link.  Otherwise the "Browse as a guest" and add profile controls (and possibly others, I can't know, as I'm already logged in to Edge) will show.

Mike,

Most general purpose color laser printers do a fine job with photographs if all you're looking for is "good snapshot quality."  Photo printing like photographers do it requires special printers regardless of the technology of the printer, and special paper, too.  For most of us a laser printed image is just fine for day to day use.

Laser printers are more expensive up front, and toner cartridges are very expensive, but the per page cost is less, and a toner cartridge lasts "forever," relatively speaking, compared to an ink tank, even an extra capacity ink tank.

Also, comparisons of image printing between two inkjet printers, two laser printers, or a mix of the two technologies is not really possible except in the abstract.  It's something you really have to see to know exactly how well a given printer does.  You can get stats on dots per inch and the like, but that tells you next to nothing about what the final product actually will look like.  This is a case where sighted help, using a picture of your choosing for printing but that's consistent across all devices, will get you the most information about how the image quality seems including color rendering, sharpness, etc.
