Re: using the orbet in Canada

Ann Parsons

Hi all,

This is in reference to the person who asked if the rumor was true that you couldn't use an Orbit Reader or Writer in Canada. This is where you begin to learn to think like an adult, a reasoning human being.
First, The Orbit Reader is just a braille display. The Orbit Writer is just a smart keyboard that connects to a computer or a cell phone via bluetooth. They only connect to the Internet via a device like a computer or a cell phone. It would be difficult to tell if the braille display or the braille keyboard were connected to something.

Second, why would the Canadian Government, much less Orbit Research care if you used an Orbit Reader in Canada?

Third, where did you get this information? Who was the source? How reliable is that source. No, I don't mean is the person a family member or friend or minister or counselor. I mean how reliable has their information been in the past? I don't care if it's your mom.
How accurate has it been? What kind of reputation does your information source have among others? What is the history of this information source?

C'mon, think, use that brain of yours. That's why He created it, after all. Think! Reason!

Far as I can tell this is a false rumor. It has no basis in truth.
Think! Evaluate! Trust your judgment! <arrrghgh> And they wonder why people believe that masks are against your civil rights or that X group is trying to take over the world?

Hi all,

I don't think they can do that. Internet Explorer is the same program as is Windows Explorer. I think they're dependent on each other.

Re: BARD App Inquiry

Hello,
There is a get books tab in the app. Once you are on that tab you will find a button that says something like go to the bard web page. Click on this button, then find the search box. Search for your book and once you find it you can add it to your wish list. Once the book is added into your wish list you can then download it in the app.

Hello Group,

For years now, I have been downloading the NLS audio books from the website and transferring them to my NLS player. I decided to install the BARD app on my iPhone. The install went well and I set up the user name and password. It seems quite accessible, but I do not see any way to download books directly with the app. Is this the way it work? Do you still have to download the books on your computer and then transfer them to the iPhone to be able to read them?

Thanks in advance for any clarification.

I don't recall the message referred to. But it may be that Internet Explorer is still a part of the operating system as in earlier versions of Windows. It does no harm if it isn't being used and there sites, now and then, where it works better enough to be advantageous to use. It is a mistake to remove it.

Thanks for your help.  Guess I will just stick with Google Chrome.

Holly,

Then I can't help further, as Eset is taking full control, and I have no idea how one would get to the Windows Defender Offline Scan if you don't have access to the link I mentioned in the dialog I mentioned.

I haven't used any third party security suite for some years now and I have no idea of exactly how each "overlays" what would have been done by Windows Security.

When I activate virus and threat protection, the only option I see is Esset security.  There is no scan option button.

I see that there is a Windows update scheduled to download during inactive hours.  Should I run Defender anyway or update before I run the offline scan?

I would, simply for peace of mind.  When I get any really "odd behavior" I prefer to do an offline scan because it has the ability to find things that scans that occur once the operating system is up and running.

It's not absolutely essential, but were I you, I'd still do one.

Is there anything uncommon on your machine such as some sort of utility that looks for things that need updating?

I don't know if such a utility would do what you describe, but something is causing something unexpected to happen.

I un-installed it.  I am using Super Anti Spyware and Esset Nod 32 anti virus.  Also have the free version of Malware Bites.

Should I run Defender even though I un-installed the program?

Re: Browser Help Please.

Brian Vogel <britechguy@...>

Holly,

Were I you, I would consider doing an Offline Scan with Windows Defender (even if you don't use Windows Defender as your primary security suite - this feature is still available).

Settings, Update & Security, Windows Security Pane, activate Virus & Threat Protection, which will open this part of Defender, activate the Scan Options link, activate the Microsoft Defender Offline scan radio button, then when you activate the Scan button the system will Restart and the actual scan occurs before Windows is even active, allowing it to get to certain infections that cannot be touched if Windows itself is running.

Something's very off here.
