Re: Really! gonna buy a printer, huh?

Hi Howard,

First thing, do not by another inkjet printer. If you have money to throw away, than an inkjet may be right for you.
Spend the extra hundred bucks and get a laser. You won't have to throw it away, Yes, the toner cartridge will cost more but the price per page will be way less than an inkjet.
Again, it will be cheaper if black and white will do instead of color.
Why does it have to be h p?
A lot of people use Brother or Canon and are happy with the product.

Hi All,

Well, I'm gonna go ahead and byte the bullet. I've been told. Wondering again, if someone will recommend an all-in-one printer. I have had and thrown out four HP ink-jet printers and would really like to buy one that will last awhile. But, it'll probably be another HP. I'd like a "blind-friendly" one that has real buttons and not a touch screen. I'll probably order it from Amazon tomorrow. And then I'm gonna ask, anyone who will read my messages, how to extend its life.

Thank you again to anybody with suggestions.

Howard

Thank you so much for these instructions. I haven't done anything with the gmail site today, but after seeing these, I'll try them tomorrow. This is very helpful.

I've also noticed static on my BrailleNote Touch Plus with certain applications such as Tune-In and Sero. However, when I connect a Bluetooth speaker or headphones, the sound is much better. I wonder if you could do the same, then connect your Bluetooth speaker to a mixer. Good luck.

Hello group,

I have installed the most recent NVDA on two laptops running Win 10. I
cannot get the NVDA menu to come up when I hit Caps Lock N. This is the
first time I've encountered this issue. There is a function key on one
laptop, a Dell Latitude. I don't know if this function key is creating this
problem, but my older laptop does not have a function key but has the same
problem.
Is there another way to get into the NVDA menu using a laptop keyboard?

Thanks,
Norma

Re: NVDA key not working on laptops

Gene

Does the NVDA key generally not work? when you use it for other things, what happens? As for getting into the menu you can in the system tray. If you need instructions, let us know.

I'll briefly say that opening the system tray, Windows key b, then using first letter navigation to get to NVDA, then pressing the context menu key will open the menu but it is important to know if this is a sign of a much wider problem.

Re: accessible streaming devices apart from apple tv

Hello Chris
Thanks much. Do you know if it uses Android as operating system. Here in
South Africa we have an Android app, DSTVNow, which is the app from the only
subscription based tv company and the app runs on Android so it would be
nice if one would be able to install the app on the Fire stick, or can't one
install apps on it?

Lately, I’ve noticed a staticky, hissing sound coming from my BrailleNote Touch Pluss. It’s most noticeable when I plug it into my mixer, but even when the mixer isn’t plugged in, it’s still there.

Any advice is much appreciated.

Re: Composing New Messages on Gmail Site

Nimer Jaber

Hello Abbie,

In the main Gmail site, you can do the following:
  1. Once you are at Gmail, press c to compose. If keyboard shortcuts are not enabled, you can enable them in settings.
  2. Type the first few letters of the individual you wish to email. If they are in your addressbook, or someone you have emailed before, the address will come up. Note that you may have to use up/down arrow keys to select the name.
  3. As soon as the name is announced, or you have selected the correct name, press enter. At this point, you can type in another name, as the one you wanted has been added.
  4. As soon as all names have been entered, press tab. Again, all email addresses you wanted are there. If you wish to view the ones you've added, sometimes going back to the to field will read those, but the most reliable way is to use your screen reader's mouse commands or touch cursor to access the content of the field.

Okay, I'll try typing the person's name into the To field, then shift tabbing and tabbing and see what that does. Thank you all for your input.

Okay, I have Windows 10, and that option isn't in my context menu. So, I'm afraid that won't work. Thank you, anyway, Mike.—
