It has been a while since I have played around with Audit Mode, but since you boot into it immediately after basic setup completes, I believe audio drivers for the local sound card are still loaded.

Hi Carlos,

Was wondering whether it is possible to use a screen reader such as NVDA within Audit Mode in Windows, either 7, 8.1 or 10? I understand that it is a ‘cut-down’ version of Windows, but not sure whether there are any audio files loaded at that point. Thoughts would be appreciated.

You don’t convert a rar file, you extract it.  You can use 7zip to do that.  I guess you have to do a search for the cd, and then you should be able to find where it is, and you can cut and paste it where you want it to be.  Pam

Yeah I know, but it’s not. I don’t mind if it makes a icon short cut on my desktop but know I can’t find the cd I just downloaded. Also it’s in a rar format so how can I convert that into mp3 instead?

Thanks

Re: USB 3 flash drives with the Bard player

Carlos

LOL well I'll probably rarely have enough books on one drive for it to make that much of a difference.  I was just curious as to whether anyone had tested the player with large capacity USB 3 drives because 64 GB is pretty cheap these days.  And transferring even a couple of GB worth of books on to a USB 2 drive is painfully slow to me at this point.

At times, you can't use save as in the context menu.  Some sites don't support it.  Instead of only using or learning not fully supported methods, the method that is intended for all, not just some or a lot of uses, should be learned.  Save target as is useful and at times preferable but it should not be used to the exclusion of the fully supported method.

The talking book player almost certainly has a USB 2 port and it never seems to take very long to recognize books no matter how many I've had so far on up to a 16 GB drive.  The big advantage of USB 3 speeds comes into play when copying books to the flash drive from the computer.

Hi Naima,

Try the following to change your default download location:
1. While in Internet Explorer 11, press, control + J, to open view
downloads.

2. Tab to, Options link, & press spacebar or enter to open.

3. You should be on the, Browse button, if not tab or shift tab to it, &
press the spacebar or enter to open. Hear you can type the file path to the
folder where you want your downloads to go, or, Shift + Tab, a couple of
times to the, Tree View, and browse through the folder list / Tree View.
When you find the folder you want, press enter, & this will be your new
default download location.
Take care.

Hi all,

To find your file, hit the windows key and type in a portion of the name of the CD. It's probably a folder someplace.

Hi Carlos and others,
I’m having problems with my downloads and I needed some help. When I download something it doesn’t go to my downloads page or my desktop, it goes to another file. How do I change it so the downloads will go to the desktop or downloads folder.
Why did it change? When I reset it can I make it permanit or will it change whenever it wants too.
Please help!!!!
Naima

Hi all,

When you download something, use the save-target-as option in the context menu and tell it where you want to have it download your files. Do not download them to the desktop, that is for programs and shortcuts.

Naima, .rar is a compressed file, you need to unzip or unpack it. I'd use 7zip.

Yeah I know, but it’s not. I don’t mind if it makes a icon short cut on my desktop but know I can’t find the cd I just downloaded. Also it’s in a rar format so how can I convert that into mp3 instead?
Thanks

Re: FireFox storing logins

Gene

In the main firefox window press alt then type p then o.  Options will open but you may not hear anything announced.
Tab once to move to the list of categories.
Down arrow to security.  If you get stuck as you down arrow, up arrow once then continue down.
Once there tab until you get to a check box that says remember log ins.  Uncheck it with the space bar.
There is no ok button.  The choice is already in effect.  Just do whatever you want, whether that is opening a new page, following a book mark, closing the program etc.
Continue to use the program as you would if you were on a web page.  As far as Firefox is concerned, this is an internal web page.

How can I keep FireFox from asking me to store login info?  I'd rather not and it gets to be a little annoying.

Thanks, anybody.

Re: groups.io question

Carlos

On the main page, click on the link that displays your name. It will expand to display other options. At that point, select
"Account",
then
"Identity",
then
"Edit",
fill in the field labeled
"Display Name",
and finally select the
"Update Group Profile"
button to save the changes.

You have to press Control J while Internet Explorer is running and the active window.  It is a command specific to IE so it won't work if you press it anywhere else.

Carlos it didn’t work. I have windows 7 and I don’t know why it’s so hard to get this thing to work right.
