In the main firefox window press alt then type p then o.  Options will open but you may not hear anything announced.
Tab once to move to the list of categories.
Down arrow to security.  If you get stuck as you down arrow, up arrow once then continue down.
Once there tab until you get to a check box that says remember log ins.  Uncheck it with the space bar.
There is no ok button.  The choice is already in effect.  Just do whatever you want, whether that is opening a new page, following a book mark, closing the program etc.
Continue to use the program as you would if you were on a web page.  As far as Firefox is concerned, this is an internal web page.

is it possible to bridge my ethernet adapter on nmy pc with my wifi network?
I am going to be running all of this threw a virtual machine but want to use my either net card as a way to hook up a device that is ethernet wich is my voip phone adapter
so I would b be hooking the voip adapter to the ethernet card on my desktop and would need it to assign the ip address to the voip adapter from my wireless card
is what I am wanting to do is this possible? or can you not bridge the ethernet card to a wirless card so the ip address range would be the same as the wifi card? I am not sure if any of this is making any sense.
I know what I am wanting to do in my head but am having trouble explaining it in words

I don’t know, either.  But I do know that there is a definite difference in USB drives that I have, older and newer ones.  The older ones beep more and take longer than the ones I have gotten more recently.  Pam.

And aside from slightly faster download speeds, what is the advantage of using a USB 3 flash drive over a USB 2 model?  My understanding is that the largest capacity flash drive that can be handled by the DTB player is 64 gb.

Okay, so the player does seem to work with USB 3 flash drives.  Although I'm still curious about how well it works with higher capacity USB 3 models.  I.E. 64 GB or larger.  Unfortunately, the largest I can conveniently test at the moment without reformatting is 16 GB.

Okay, so for once I have a question.  Has anyone here tried using USB 3 flash drives with the Bard player?  If so, what capacities have you successfully used?  I was considering purchasing a couple of low-profile USB 3 models for use with the Bard player, but if they won't work then I won't bother.  In theory, all USB 3 flash drives should be backwards compatible with USB 2 ports, but unfortunately theory and practice are not always the same.  What works with some devices won't necessarily work with all.

I see no reason to be persuaded that it may be a sound card issue or an issue with sound at all.  When you stop an svhost instance, you may stop many things.  And if you are going to play around, you need to be sure that you haven't stopped something important in security.  I once terminated a svhost instance to try to solve a problem and found that I had stopped my firewall.  I found this by checking and there was no indication aside from checking that this had happened.

Do you still have Windows updates enabled?  If so, turn them off and see what happens.  If that doesn't solve the problem, what happens when you turn off your Internet connection.  I don't know if there is a way to see what processes run under any specific svhost instance, but in my experience, stopping an svhost instance is a very imprecise and poor way to troubleshoot.

Subject: [TechTalk] Sound Card and Resource issue, please help

Hi, all.
I just started having this weird issue with my sound card and system
resources.
First, I'm using XP sp 3 with all updates it could get.  yes, I know it's
old, I can't do anything about that now.

I'm using a Real Tech HD sound card.  I usually have a USB hub and the H 800
headset connected and rarely use external speakers, but this issue happens
either way.

Last night I started noticing a significant slow down with my PC.  I checked
in task manager and my resources were  completely maxed out but the usual
amount of processes were running, I usually have between 41 and 45 depending
on what programs I've got running.

I started going down the list to see how much resources each task was taking
up.  I have several instances of svchost.exe.  I know this is normal and
totally legit.  However, one of these instances was taking nearly all of the
PC resources.  When I ended this process, my resources went down to the
usual 5 or 7 percent.  But I now have issues with many of my sound effects
not playing, like the incoming mail sound which has been replaced with I
think a critical stop indicator even though mail and the Internet work fine.
Also the volume icon is no longer in my system tray and I have limited
access to sound card properties.  For example if I go into the sounds
settings under control panel, I can't access any of the tabs like volume,
voice, hardware, etc.  I can't get NVDA to read this, but I can't as far as
I can tell even enter these dialogs once that process is gone.

Also, I get a plugin error message when I try to open a playlist in Winamp.

I can reboot the PC but the whole resource hogging starts all over again and
I can't get anything done until I kill that process.

The only thing I've done is to update Firefox from version 47 to 49.X.  I
did this yesterday afternoon, and the problem started late last night, so I
doubt if they're related.

I've run Malware bytes and I don't have anything abnormal going on there.

Any ideas would be appreciated.  I'm guessing it's a sound card issue of
some kind, but I don't know where to go to fix it.

You don’t convert a rar file, you extract it.  You can use 7zip to do that.  I guess you have to do a search for the cd, and then you should be able to find where it is, and you can cut and paste it where you want it to be.  Pam

LOL well I'll probably rarely have enough books on one drive for it to make that much of a difference.  I was just curious as to whether anyone had tested the player with large capacity USB 3 drives because 64 GB is pretty cheap these days.  And transferring even a couple of GB worth of books on to a USB 2 drive is painfully slow to me at this point.

LOL, I plead temporary insanity.  I just remembered that I do have some USB 3 flash drives here I can test.  None of them are low-profile, but that will at least tell me if the Bard player can support them.

Carlos, I have heard of people trying large drives, for example, 64 gig and the player took a long time to recognize the  books.

The talking book player almost certainly has a USB 2 port and it never seems to take very long to recognize books no matter how many I've had so far on up to a 16 GB drive.  The big advantage of USB 3 speeds comes into play when copying books to the flash drive from the computer.

I don't know the speed of the ports of the dtbm machine.  The larger the capacity and the fuller the drive, the longer it will take the machine to recognize the books.

At times, you can't use save as in the context menu.  Some sites don't support it.  Instead of only using or learning not fully supported methods, the method that is intended for all, not just some or a lot of uses, should be learned.  Save target as is useful and at times preferable but it should not be used to the exclusion of the fully supported method.

Hi all,

When you download something, use the save-target-as option in the
context menu and tell it where you want to have it download your files.
Do not download them to the desktop, that is for programs and shortcuts.

Naima, .rar is a compressed file, you need to unzip or unpack it.  I'd
use 7zip.
