Re: Downloads help please!

Hello

if memory serves   when you open the rar file with 7zip it will land you on the folder or file

once you highlight what you want to extract then hit f5 and that should give you a place to extract the file or folder

Hi Carlos and others,

I’m having problems with my downloads and I needed some help. When I download something it doesn’t go to my downloads page or my desktop, it goes to another file. How do I change it so the downloads will go to the desktop or downloads folder.

Why did it change? When I reset it can I make it permanit or will it change whenever it wants too.

Please help!!!!

Re: Downloads help please!

Carlos

RAR is an archive format similar to ZIP.  You cannot convert it to an audio format like MP3.  A RAR archive can contain MP3 files, but in that case you must extract it, not convert it using a program such as 7-Zip.

Well, remember that an infant learns to see very early and their visual cortex handles the task without prior use.

I doubt that they will easily resolve such a problem until we have a much
greater understanding of the brain. I suspect the technology to restore
vision will be here long before we acquire that level of understanding. In
the meantime, what will most likely happen is that some people's brains may
naturally adapt to receiving visual nerve impulses while others may not. In
either case, some kind of therapy/adaptation period will almost certainly be
required.

I do wonder how they plan to get around things like that.

We'll have to learn to see just like a stroke patient has to learn to walk or talk. It would take determination. I, for one, would love to try. I have given it thought, figure that for a while, probably would need to avoid brighter lighting, maybe the first few weeks, try to see for an hour or two and slowly advance. For instance, place a cup on the table. Walk out of the room, come to the table, look at the cup, then reach out and see how close you get to the handle by sight, things like that.

I used to figure how I would start to drive around our neighborhood, since I knew it well from walks, plus I had paid for half the car. Since Jim paid for this one before we were married, and I only split expenses on it, I don't think about that. However, should the time come that we bought one together, maybe I should tell him, so he can decide if he wants me in on the deal or not.

Bye for now,

Carolyn

Hi everyone,

One of my blind friends is using Quicken Premier, Windows 7 with JAWS, and has just upgraded to version 2017 of Quicken Premier. She is wondering if anyone else is successfully using the 2017 upgrade, and is especially interested in keyboard shortcuts.

Re: National Geographic article about Curing Blindness.

Carlos

Hello Shirley,

Posting links to articles is fine as long as they are on topic. It sounds as if this one falls into that category so go right ahead.

I don't know if I'm allowed to post the link to the article on the list, but if I am I will. I will send it to anyone who wants it.

thanks, will look that up

I do not know if you use BARD, but there is a 51 minute audio article
about

the artificial eye, stem cell research, and the whole list of ways of
finding a cure to end Blindness in this September 2016 issue of National
Geographic magazine on BARD.
Including the fact a gentleman will give 3 million in Gold to whoever
finds

a cure by 2020.
They have all the past issues available, just look for September 2016.

Ya know I read an article awhile back where they were experimenting
with using nerves in the tongue for sight, & were having limited
success. I can't find the article right now but, what I don't recall
is how they were doing this. I don't know if they were bypassing the
optic nerve, using bionics or what but, it was pretty interesting.
Can you imagine it, someone

walking around, flicking their tongue out & about, like a hungry frog
/ lizard but, able to navigate because their eyes had been replaced by
a flicking tongue?!
Take care.

Indeed, but again the article discusses one device which bypasses
the optic nerve altogether and directly stimulates the visual cortex.
LOL I think the notion that an optic nerve is required to provide
artificial sight

is somewhat outdated now since this is the second article I have read
which

discusses such technology. Of course it hasn't been perfected, but
successful tests with early designs indicates that the technology will
almost certainly be workable as it advances.

Hi there!

What I have heard is that it would be tricky if not imposible to
transplant the optic nerve since it is actually connected to the brain
if I

understand correctly. BTW, I would be very interested in an optic
nerve transplant if it ever becomes possible! I do however wonder why
they can't simply place stem cells that could reproduce and perhaps
repair the damage in the nerve. I still suspect this would be a very
tricky operation though.

I guess it never hurts to dream a little or maybe a lot!

Hi Veronica,

My doctor was telling my wife & I about Medicare paying for a penial

up pecker to please his wife but, noone bothered to ask his wife if
this was true! This man was not a patient of my doctor but, my doctor
knew of the case because he knew the Urologist that performed the
surgery. A little crazy ya think?!

My wishes as well, however, I doubt Medicare would pay for
anything

of this nature considering how expensive it would be.

I sure wish they would come out with some sort of optic nerve
replacement. You would think that being nerves run off of eletrical
stimulus that a small battery pack could be implanted to give the
nerves the

necessary power to operate. But, I would assume that getting the
correct ohms / current would be really hard to duplicate.

Take care.
