Re: Accessible way to snoop URLs

Hi Group,

There is a program called IP Snooper, but last time I tried it was largely inaccessible.  You did see some stuff on the screen when using the review/JAWS cursor, but there were no labels and several dozen IP addresses that you could read, but what this all meant was Greek to me.

Anyone know a JAWS readable way to view the stream URL of a radio station
once it starts playing, not the .htm URL that you usually see on the address

bar, but the stream url, which usually looks something like
http://stream.kntu.unt.edu:8000/kntulive.mp3

Thanks in advance.

Re: speakers are not announcing scores

We'll see what happens regarding the digital assistant problem. Meantime, here is a site with yesterdays scores.
https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/college-football-scores-ncaa-top-25-rankings-week-6-no-5-notre-dame-no-8-unc-hold-off-feisty-opponents/live/
There is a small article and then the scores are given below. The article contains some scores but I think more are presented below it. I haven't looked at the site in general. I found it by searching for college football scores October 10. If you have trouble finding scores for other days, let us know.

There are so many sources of information on the Internet that if one isn't available for some reason for a popular activity such as this, it is very likely another will be found that is either as good or rreasonable.

It may be that this has changed. it may also be some sort of technical
difficulty. People are used to services relying on the Internet to be
reliable. That doesn't mean that one should jump to conclusions when
something may just be down.

I did a search for something like no scores for college games using alexa
and got no results in the first roughly six result links I read. I also did
a broader search for something like no scores for college games using voice
assistants. Again, I got no results in something like the first six. You
would expect that if a major change had occurred, stopping access, that it
would be a major news story. College sports are big news. Seeing nothing
makes a major change even more unlikely.

Of course, something may have happened but at this point, from what I didn't
find, it appears unlikely.

is this webinar accessible?

heather albright

Hello, I have been asked to use https://www.gotomeeting.com/webinar.

I cant find any contact info for using assistive technology on their platform using the link given to me.  So does anyone know how to access meeting info. I wanted to use jaws for windows or voice over off my ipadd. I also wanted to use my braille display to read what is said in case I miss something. I have not received my meeting id yet. I tried to navigate around this site and I keep running in to unlabeled  graphics in the resources area.  So is the app better for the iPhone or ipad? Thanks Heather

Re: verizon and TMobile offering LTE fixed wireless home internet with no data caps

enes sarıbaş

Hi,

Brian, for reference to other members who might have heard about  this type of LTE internet, which protocols and speeds do you consider to be  woefully inadequate and that members should consider switching to wireless?

My opinion is, any speeds using ADSL: regardless what the download speed might be, this connection type has a high latency and very high overhead. Moreover, the upload speed is limited to less than a megabit, which makes it woefully inadequate. Any sort of backup will render the entire network unusable until it completes due to saturation. Depending on quality, for example in cities with VDSL, or higher than 25 mbps/5mbps uverse, switching will probably provide better speeds if cell towers support upwards of 100 mbps. Satallite internet is also inferior in most cases I have read.  For older cable, docsis 3.0 and lower, cell towers probably would provide good serrvice if the network is congested and less than 100 mbit is achieved. Cable of the 3.0 and lower veriety has low upload speeds, though not as bad as ADSL.

Well Brian,

When I tell friends in Europe or Turkey their jaws would drop when they hear of the costs of wireless plans. When I was in the UK, I was paying like 10 gbp, about 13 dollars for a plan with 3gb of data or so, unlimited minutes, and SMS. When they increased prices and data alotments, I drop to the 7.5 gbp plan with less data. I think that price was extremely good for the service. I could have payed 20 instead of 10, and gotten unlimited data up to 30 gb without throttling, or another 10-20 to remove all the throttling. In turkey, I paid like 23 tl a month, less than 3 dollars now, for 750 minutes, 1000 sms, and like 3 gb of data.

Enes,

What service providers do, or I should say can get away with, varies widely by venue.  The fact that T-Mobile offers what it does offer here in the USA without requiring a contract (you can terminate at will) was (and largely remains) revolutionary.

When I've mentioned to friends in Australia the service I have here, and the price I have it at, their jaws drop in the opposite direction.  They're shocked at how good I have it.

I get throttled to a maximum of 600Kbps and that's still way more than sufficient for web surfing, at least to me.  Perhaps that's faster than 2G, but I know it's not as fast as 3G, as I used to have a Virgin Mobile MiFi hotspot (dedicated device) and it was slightly faster under 3G than my throttled speed is.

I really cannot complain.  The cost savings I've achieved by dumping my landline telephone and DSL service, and getting two lines in the process with what is generally way more than enough hotspot data, free Netflix, and the ability to cancel service at will is way, way, way more than worth it.

Heather, I only follow basketball, American football and baseball.

Whenever I need the scores for a particular game, I would invoke the wake-up
word; then I'd say something like: "Score of X&X Game, where X&X equals the
name of the team."

Example: I'm in both Broncos and Seahawks country. My question would be
worded like this after waking up my toy: "Score of Seahawks Game." I always
get a response.

Please note that I'm in My Shiny Android Toys World. As such, I use either
GoogleAssistant or my GoogleHome Smart toy! Hope this helps somewhat.

the Jets 37-28 on October 1st."

Perhaps you need to reboot your toy(s) for a new reset. Again, I'm in

Many years ago an amazing woman named Amy Ruell ran a wonderful and

regarding new products and services, product upgrades and other
messages of interest to the visually impaired. I found that list to be
informative and invaluable.
Sadly, the list ceased operations.
I often do a little of what Amy had done where I send similar
announcements to mailing lists to which I’m subscribed. I have decided
to start my own announce-only list providing what I hope will be a similar
service.
I’m subscribed to many different mailing lists and I also regularly
keep up with the latest news in the blindness technology field. This
list will be comprised of mailings containing these various
announcements. The types of emails that I plan to distribute may include
the following:

· News regarding hardware and software upgrades

· New blindness products and services

· News regarding enhancements to blindness services

· Employment opportunities which may be of interest or relevance
to
the visually impaired

· Upcoming webinars and conferences dealing with blindness
technology

· How-to articles containing tips and tricks on using mainstream
technology of interest to the visually impaired, such as the iPhone,
Microsoft Office, etc.

Whenever possible I will also include a URL at the bottom of each
announcement leading to the original source material.
While the list won’t consist of any back and forth discussions I do
expect that this will be a medium to high traffic list.
Since this list has been formed I will no longer be submitting
announcements to other lists to which I’m subscribed. People who wish
to continue receiving these announcements must subscribe to the new list.
To subscribe to the list, send email to

If you have material that you’d like me to submit to the list, please
send it to
Tech-vi+owner@groups.io<mailto:Tech-vi+owner@groups.io>
Please include the source URL when sending me the material. If a
source link is not included I will not post your announcement. If you
wish to submit an announcement regarding an upcoming webinar or
conference please include a link containing more information, such as
a description and a registration form. The announcement should be
relevant to blindness technology and I reserve the right to decide
whether it will or won’t be submitted to the list.
Please feel free to forward this email to anyone who you think may be
interested in this mailing list. Before you forward this announcement
to another mailing list or online forum please contact the moderator
of that forum before posting this announcement and inquire as to
whether announcements such as this are permitted on the owner’s
mailing list or forum.
Many thanks for reading this and I am hoping that this new
announce-only list will be of some value to you. I won’t claim that
the list will be nearly as comprehensive as Amy’s original list as I
don’t feel that I have the time needed to even try and duplicate her
efforts. However, it is my hope that the list will help people to keep
up with the latest news and trends in the blindness technology space.
Here is hoping that all of you will try to stay as safe and healthy as
possible during these trying times. May our Lord bless you.
