So...
Tools>Internet Options>Advance tab.
Press the "Reset..." button and also check the "Delete personal
settings" check box.
Note this will also disable your add-on. So, for example, if you have a
download manager you need to go to add-on manager to re-enable it. It
won't effect Flash, however.

I have never heard of Windows installing updates after a reboot.  As I understand it, Windows installs updates during shutdowns.  Also, it's Saturday and Windows 7 updates are usually released on a certain Tuesday each month.  If the laptop is used regularly and regularly connected to the Internet, that also makes this hypothesis much less likely.

It certainly cuts down the number of possible items on the menu, but some manufacturers put diagnostic options on this menu as well so you still can't guarantee they will be the only two items. Type
msinfo32
in the
"Run"
dialog, tab once, and look for the
"System Manufacturer"
and
"System Model"
items in the list.

F12 is probably the most commonly used key, but some manufacturers use

Youtube still worked?

Press the "Reset..." button and also check the "Delete personal
settings" check box.
Note this will also disable your add-on. So, for example, if you have a
