hello;
another way to add a contact to the contacts in outlook,

1, open outlook,
2, enter on a message which contact information you wish to add.
3, use the keystroke, ctrl+shift+y
you will hear something like, copy to dialog,
4, now press the letter "c" until you hear contacts, press enter,
now the information will be there,
the name, and if you tab you will see the email address.
you can add other information,
when you are finished, alt+s=save,
now, your placed back into the message.

Hello David,

Welcome.

I use outlook 2016 with Jaws 20 on a windows 10.

What I usually do is copy the e mail,

Go to control 3)in your number row)

Control N for new contact

Fill out full name

Then shift

When you land on company, control M and E

Then paste the e mail addy

Alt S to save.

Maybe someone else has an easier way but this has always worked for me.

Good luck

Usability of Touch Screen and Pen on Laptops

Bhavya shah

Dear all,

I am currently looking at purchasing a new, high-end laptop as I enter
college. For context, I use NVDA on Windows, am not interested in
Chrome OS or Mac OS, and I already use a Touch Screen Android
Smartphone for simple stuff. I prefer doing any productivity tasks
with keyboard shortcuts on my laptop rather than touch gestures on my
phone, so I am proudly old-fashioned in that sense.

Given that, how useful do you think is a laptop with a touch screen, a
touch pen, and other fancy touchpad related features? Do such features
have potential to be quite useful for a fully blind person? I am not
sure how much of a factor the presence of such functionalities should
play a role in my selection process.

I would greatly appreciate your thoughts and inputs on this matter.

Thanks.

There is indeed a checkbox to stop these dialogs from showing, however, the dialog is not the most accessible.

Possibly using the touch cursor, if you are a JAWS user, might help access the checkbox.

I have always needed sighted assistance to place a check mark into that box as I have had the same experience with not being able to access it.

Hi group,

On my Dell laptop with Win 10, every time I plug in headphones I get an announcement through the laptop’s speakers asking what audio device I’ve plugged in. Obviously, I’m plugging in headphones because I don’t want audio coming through the speakers. How do I turn this off? There is no “don’t show this message again” option in the dialogue.

Thanks for your help with this issue.

Re: Disabling "what device did you plug in?" announcement

Brian Vogel <britechguy@...>

This sort of message is generally not from Windows, but from an audio manager program that was supplied with your sound card (whether that's integrated in the computer or was a plug-in card inside a desktop case).  Check out what's running in your system tray, including the overflow area, and you'll likely find something like RealTek Audio Manager, or DTS Audio Control, or similar.  You can typically bring up the context menu for same and through their settings set them not to start with Windows or to turn off selected or all notifications from them.

It's impossible to get more specific without knowing specifically what's running.

Hi all,

From what you say below, you are having difficulties switching between
word and your browser? Does alt-tabbing work? Does typing windows-t and tabbing through the open programs there work? What's happening when you attempt to switch between these two programs?

Re: best MVNO plans?

Hi,

The upgrade plan doesn't make sense to me. It is very unlikely that I would replace a phone every two years. But I am still thinking while I continue to wait for new phones. Does anyone actually make use of VOLTE? With Metro, the audio sounds like a landline, even though I enabled LTE for voice and data. Almost anyone I call has that type of audio quality. If postpaid plans offer this, even if I don't use unlimited data, that would be a good reason to switch. Metro claims that they offer VOLTE though.

On 9/29/2020 10:01 PM, Brent Harding wrote:

I would say it probably is. I got the Apple upgrade plan, but that only works with the major four’s postpaid services, at least when you initially buy it. They are unlocked, so you can switch or use any sim you want after you have it though. Through experimenting with a couple different prepaid options out there, I found that Sprint really has the fastest speeds here, but it isn’t great in the rural areas. I don’t know that any of them are, but when I heard it was last call for the Sprint Kickstart plan, I jumped back on, as I know that at least in the recent past, T-Mobile’s strong suit in coverage isn’t near me. I’ve heard eventually, the coverage they have and what Sprint had will be the same, but I think they’re still mostly operating separately yet.

Hi,

Another  question I have is with replacing my outdated Iphone 6. I waited for the 5g capable 12 pro, which was supposed to have a much better processor. But that has turned out to be a mistake, with reports showing that the new a14 is marginally faster than the 13. When replacing my phone, I want to order directly through apple, and pay the phone directly. I need an unlocked phone, as I travel internationally, and need to be able to use local sim cards. Is purchasing from apple, as opposed to the carrier a good stratigy?

So they actually require a contract for those prices if I remember, so you pay a year in advance. Also, that 15 dollar plan is a 3gb plan.

I think Mint Mobile has one of the better prepaid plans. It is $30 a month for unlimited everything. They also have a $15 a month plan that gives you, I think, 12 gigs of data a month.

I am honestly debating with myself whether to go MVNO/prepaid or postpaid regular plan. I am on metro for my current IPhone 6, but since literally no network officially supports this device, I am thinking of switching to a better  plan when I get a  new IPhone when they come out. I am leaning more towards postpaid though, after some thought, especially since I would be able to benefit from employee discounts, that likely would shave off between 10-15 at least on the monthly bill. And I am not 55  or older.

T-Mobile has an incredible plan for those age 55 and over and since they don't require a contract . . .

Yo Music Man,

Take a look at the thread below and it will explain frame navigation and also why frame labeling might not be necessary.

From: Dean Martineau
Navigate from frame to frame using m, but chances are you can use other
quick keys to get to what you need.  There may be a link to add a payee, for
instance.  Then your payees may be marked by checkboxes, or edit fields.
Each has its own quick key.

Miriam,

It is my experience that you don't get into and out of a frame.  You can
just arrow down the page and you will hear something like FRAME NAME, then
all the stuff in that frame, then end of frame.

You don't have to do anything special to enter it.  Just by moving down
with your virtual cursor, you enter and exit it.

Some frames are emtpy so there really isn't anything in them to navigate
to.

You can use the m key to jump around the page by frames, then when you get
to the frame you want, just start arrowing down.
