Hi all,

What screen reader are you using? You want to find its key describer mode.
I think in Jaws it's insert f1, but don't quote me.

Re: Kindly advice me On Scanners For the blind:

Hello Mubanga,
My name is John and I'm a congenitally totally blind retired teacher of the blind and visually impaired.
I see that based on your questions you've had much feedback from the lister's offering much information which is in all purposes good and well intended.
However, for years I was a user of Open book scanning software which I found excellent and most easy to learn.
The whole program comes on one cd.
It is sold by Freedom Scientific.
The menus may be set according to the learning of the students.
And no, you do not need a talking scanner because the program is fully equipped with all of the speech functions that are necessary.
I no longer use it because I have a scanning program on my iPhone.
If you would like I can try and provide you with current information on the Open Book scanning program or any other questions which I may assist you with.
Thank you for your attention.
John

What is the e-mail address or website where to order Sarah Scanners? On the other hand on my invoice I got from South Africa there's an indication of a software called abbyy fine reader, Can I order it and configure it in my three scanners in order to produce speech? I am asking this because someone on this mailinglist mentioned about fine reader software.

Actually the South African council for the blind ordered them on my behalf from Hp computers. Now if they have no speech then please listers advice me where to buy scanners for the blind with speech.

I happen to know that the Sarah scanner has speech output. I am not too familiar with the singular they have one but don't regularly use it. There are many voices you can choose from to customize it.

Do you know if you can set different ringtones for each configured VOIP account? My understanding is that you can configure up to four accounts. Be it GV or some other  VOIP service.

I have one of the Obihai devices, and it is mostly a web-based setup. There are settings, especially in its advanced mode, to change just about anything you could want to change, and you could add other providers besides GV to it, as long as you can get the sip settings.

Hello list,

So I just bought an OBI200 to use in conjunction with my Google Voice business tell and while I can have someone with sight set it up for me and whatnot, I was still curious as to its accessibility in general. Be it setting up, configuring with telephones and other VOIP services.

Any input would be appreciated.

I think he or she does not want it to speak only digest and this is all the iPhone does with Siri or Vo . I think they are wanting O'clock . example 8:05 O'clock PM or AM. This is what I am thinking they are asking.

Seven zip has a basic file browser.
Open 7-zip file manager from the all programs menu.
You will land on
Computer
Press enter; you will land on a list of drives
Press enter on the drive you want
You will land in a list of folders on that drive
Arrow through the list and press enter on the folder where your rar file is stored
Down arrow to your rar file. Press your context menu key.
Down arrow until you hear
7-zip submenu
or similar
There should be an option that says::
Extract files...
Press enter on that. You will land in an edit box where you can type in a folder address where you wish the files to be extracted.
Alternatively, keep going until you hear
Extract here
This will place the extracted files in the current folder.
Just press enter. If you arrow around your current folder, you will find your extracted files.
If you need further help, just let us know and we'll do what we can.

Hi All,

In my context menu I only get an extract here option if I open the 7-Zip submenu.  The only other extract option is the Windows default extract all option, on my computer anyways.

Re: Unzipping a RAR file

Carlos

If it is in fact the same file, you don't have to delete it.  Just highlight the file, press F2 to rename it, and make sure to add
.rar
to the end of the file name.  However, make sure it is actually the same file and that you are not simply mistaking it with another one.

Yes I have installed it as it is now in “all programs submenu.”  However, earlier when I pressed windows context menu key and arrowed through the list, I somehow changed the file name as it now says adobe acrobat document instead of RAR file.  I may have to just delete the file.

I am fairly confident "Extract here" is a Windows function and has nothing
to do with 7zip. Someone not running 7zip will have to confirm this fact. :)

Hi Veronica,

Try this....

Highlight the file.

Press Windows context menu key or press Shift F10.

Down arrow to 7Zip submenu then right arrow to show options.

Pick from available options, but you will likely want to press enter on
the
3rd or 4th option which has the file name. Press enter to begin the
extraction process.

A new folder should be created with the name of the file, and focus will
likely be placed in the folder so you can up and down arrow through the
extracted files.
