Re: Headphones Do not Enable When using Multipurpose Jack

That happened to my 12-year-old Bose speakers, which I gave
to Jim, replaced with Logitech and connected again. For
years mine worked, but it quit, and that is frustrating to
have a headset connected, yet the sound blares out of the
speakers.

This laptop I have is equipped with one of those jacks that
are supposed to include both a headphone and microphone
component in one jack.
However, when I plug in a set of headphones, they do not
enable; instead, sound still comes from the laptop speaker.
I unticked the box that says, allow devices to take
exclusive control over this device, box in properties.
Unplugged and replugged the headphones.
No luck.
I disabled sound enhancements--although that likely wasn't
the cause.
No luck of course.
Realtek Drivers are updated.

Is there a fix for this?

Heather, I only follow basketball, American football and
baseball.

Whenever I need the scores for a particular game, I would
invoke the wake-up word; then I'd say something like:
"Score of X&X Game, where X&X equals the name of the team."

Example: I'm in both Broncos and Seahawks country. My
question would be worded like this after waking up my toy:
"Score of Seahawks Game." I always get a response.

Please note that I'm in My Shiny Android Toys World. As
such, I use either GoogleAssistant or my GoogleHome Smart
toy! Hope this helps somewhat.

Subject: [TechTalk] New Announce-Only Mailing List to Distribute News and Information Regarding Blindness Technology

Many thanks to the list owner who has given me permission to post the following announcement.

From David Goldfield:

Many years ago an amazing woman named Amy Ruell ran a wonderful and memorable mailing list called Amy’s Filters and Forwards. Subscribers to her list received email announcements from other mailing lists regarding new products and services, product upgrades and other messages of interest to the visually impaired. I found that list to be informative and invaluable. Sadly, the list ceased operations.

I often do a little of what Amy had done where I send similar announcements to mailing lists to which I’m subscribed. I have decided to start my own announce-only list providing what I hope will be a similar service.

I’m subscribed to many different mailing lists and I also regularly keep up with the latest news in the blindness technology field. This list will be comprised of mailings containing these various announcements. The types of emails that I plan to distribute may include the following:

·         News regarding hardware and software upgrades

·         New blindness products and services

·         News regarding enhancements to blindness services

·         Employment opportunities which may be of interest or relevance to the visually impaired

·         Upcoming webinars and conferences dealing with blindness technology

·         How-to articles containing tips and tricks on using mainstream technology of interest to the visually impaired, such as the iPhone, Microsoft Office, etc.

Whenever possible I will also include a URL at the bottom of each announcement leading to the original source material.

While the list won’t consist of any back and forth discussions I do expect that this will be a medium to high traffic list.

Since this list has been formed I will no longer be submitting announcements to other lists to which I’m subscribed. People who wish to continue receiving these announcements must subscribe to the new list.

To subscribe to the list, send email to

Tech-vi+subscribe@groups.io

If you have material that you’d like me to submit to the list, please send it to

Tech-vi+owner@groups.io

Please include the source URL when sending me the material. If a source link is not included I will not post your announcement. If you wish to submit an announcement regarding an upcoming webinar or conference please include a link containing more information, such as a description and a registration form. The announcement should be relevant to blindness technology and I reserve the right to decide whether it will or won’t be submitted to the list.

Please feel free to forward this email to anyone who you think may be interested in this mailing list. Before you forward this announcement to another mailing list or online forum please contact the moderator of that forum before posting this announcement and inquire as to whether announcements such as this are permitted on the owner’s mailing list or forum.

Many thanks for reading this and I am hoping that this new announce-only list will be of some value to you. I won’t claim that the list will be nearly as comprehensive as Amy’s original list as I don’t feel that I have the time needed to even try and duplicate her efforts. However, it is my hope that the list will help people to keep up with the latest news and trends in the blindness technology space.

Here is hoping that all of you will try to stay as safe and healthy as possible during these trying times. May our Lord bless you.

Perhaps, and it may not have been for this problem, but I've seen a lot of complaints about combination jacks. You may need to solve the problem by purchasing an external sound card or USB headphones.

hello;
another way to add a contact to the contacts in outlook,

1, open outlook,
2, enter on a message which contact information you wish to add.
3, use the keystroke, ctrl+shift+y
you will hear something like, copy to dialog, 4, now press the letter "c" until you hear contacts, press enter, now the information will be there, the name, and if you tab you will see the email address.
you can add other information,
when you are finished, alt+s=save,
now, your placed back into the message.

Hello David,

Welcome.

I use outlook 2016 with Jaws 20 on a windows 10.

What I usually do is copy the e mail,

Go to control 3)in your number row)

Control N for new contact

Fill out full name

Then shift

When you land on company, control M and E

Then paste the e mail addy

Alt S to save.

Maybe someone else has an easier way but this has always worked for me.

Good luck

Re: speakers are not announcing scores

Heather, I haven't tried out my toys for college football; I've not been
able to monitor much of what's going on in that world for the most part.
Typically, I would follow Indiana University Bloomington, or a Big10 Game of
some kind. Why? I am an IU alumnus! I'm a tad too slow keeping up with
which college conference is playing football, which ones are waiting till
Spring 2021, etc.

For NFL, I am able to GET THE SCORE of any game in progress no matter where
it's played. The examples I shared were for games that had already taken
place. At 11:00 A.M. Mountain Time, I plan to listen to Jaguars/Texan game,
but I will frequently check scores of other games around the league. I'm
paying particular attention to the Chiefs and Raiders and sort of wonder why
I have not chosen to listen to that game.

When my teams are not playing, I pick a game at random from the available
list. Sea Hawks pitch against The vikings today at about 6:20 P.M. MT; I'll
have my daily driver toy in Airplane mode so no calls prey on my attention.

Sincerely,
Olusegun

There is a program called IP Snooper, but last time I tried it was largely inaccessible.  You did see some stuff on the screen when using the review/JAWS cursor, but there were no labels and several dozen IP addresses that you could read, but what this all meant was Greek to me.

Re: speakers are not announcing scores

Gene

We'll see what happens regarding the digital assistant problem. Meantime, here is a site with yesterdays scores.
https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/college-football-scores-ncaa-top-25-rankings-week-6-no-5-notre-dame-no-8-unc-hold-off-feisty-opponents/live/
There is a small article and then the scores are given below. The article contains some scores but I think more are presented below it. I haven't looked at the site in general. I found it by searching for college football scores October 10. If you have trouble finding scores for other days, let us know.

There are so many sources of information on the Internet that if one isn't available for some reason for a popular activity such as this, it is very likely another will be found that is either as good or rreasonable.

It may be that this has changed. it may also be some sort of technical
difficulty. People are used to services relying on the Internet to be
reliable. That doesn't mean that one should jump to conclusions when
something may just be down.

I did a search for something like no scores for college games using alexa
and got no results in the first roughly six result links I read. I also did
a broader search for something like no scores for college games using voice
assistants. Again, I got no results in something like the first six. You
would expect that if a major change had occurred, stopping access, that it
would be a major news story. College sports are big news. Seeing nothing
makes a major change even more unlikely.

Of course, something may have happened but at this point, from what I didn't
find, it appears unlikely.
