Re: WhatsApp for PC

Thomas N. Chan

I do the qr code scanning quite often because I need to swap with two laptop with the same register whatsapp number.
I use on android and iPhone. You need to face your back camera onto the screen. My room is always n the dark too. So long the screen is turn on enough, it should be able to pick up the qr code. Hold it steady, move your phone angle right or left, all its about how you do it.
Once you get it working once or a few times, you will know the angle to do it. Personally, I got my colleague to help me to aim and I remember roughly where to aim and I got it working most of the time.

With my back camera facing the monitor from a distance of twelve to fourteen inches, I align my iPhone SE to the bottom left side of the PC monitor. Double-tap on the "Scan QR code" button on the phone and I'm set to go. It's night time here and pitch dark. I find I still can sync my phone with my desktop even with the room light off. By the way, except for Internet Explorer, a check just now showed the WhatsApp Web Desktop worked well with the latest versions of all my other browsers, namely, Google Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge and even my Avast! Re: talking pe for windows server

Thomas N. Chan

Did you try to drop to command prompt or put a startup script with the following command

net start “Audiosrv

unless it has been disable, it should start the audio services which allows some sort of audio for narrator, nvda etc.

I am yet to manage a physical windows 2016 server, but I do virtual ones from amazon and asure but concept, should be the same.

But seriously, if you have a portable copy of nvda, it shouldn’t be a problem if you have enable audio service, you can run with command or put onto a script to start it.

hi. doing a networking course from http://www.upskilled.edu.au and now looking for a talking pe for windows server 2016. did try to create and setup a unattended install, and was following a blog, but when i went to vallidate, heaps of erros. so first time doing this. is there a talking pe, and how do you add nvda to a existing iso or do you do that in the unattend file. any one able to help, who has done this before. let me know. will keep googling. john smart did have pe for windows 7, 8.1 and now need it, and wanting to use in vm ware workstation so i can then install and configure windows server 2016, standard, core, data centre. and no easy way to turn on the audio. and when i did try to power on the other day, windows narrator would not either read the install screens and or would get stuck, same with jaws and nvda. any ideas. thanks.

Re: Running chkdsk in Windows 10

Thomas N. Chan

But technically, it should still work.

Type cmd and drop into command prompt

Type chkdsk c: /f

To fix any file structure issue, indexing and so on.

/r will do a sector by sector, cluster moving files which its readable to another etc.

But unfortunately, if you are doing on a drive you can’t unmount, it will reboot before windows and do it from there which its not readable by any screen reader

Mounted drives like, swap drives or windows installed drive, you can’t unmount it while running windows.

Others can discuss such questions. I don't use Windows 10 and, although I know something about such questions, I don't have a good deal.

Joseph Lee, a knowledgeable person on another list, said that the update is affecting a small number of users and that the problems are configuration dependent. I still think that, considering Microsoft's bad updates in more or less recent times and especially considering the desired lack of social contact during this time, that postponing updates and checkihng to see if there are reported problems and if Microsoft has issued a fix in the form of a newer update may be things people might want to do. There are times when a security update is really urgent but I'm leery of getting Microsoft updates when they are released and I think waiting a few days is a good idea.

Re: Another bad Windows 10 update

Here is more information. the problem may not be effecting many people but as a member on one of the lists I sent a message about this to points out, in these coronavirus times, you really don't want to take a chance on having problems with your computer that may require social contact to repair.

It isn't clear to me how many users are affected. The problem has gotten attention from places like Kim Komando, Bleeping Computer, and Windows Next. If you do a search for
cumulative update KB4549951
you can see many articles.

Under normal times, it might not be so important to discuss this situation but it seems more important now.

Unfortunately, you cannot prevent cumulative updates from installing automatically in Windows 10.  You can defer feature updates, but eventually, they too, will be installed automatically.

On the Win 10 list, a few members reported last week that Windows Security stopped working properly after they installed the latest Windows 10 cumulative update.  This is not the time to upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10.  If you encounter a problem and lose speech, you could be totally screwed until the national health crisis has passed and you can find someone to help you fix the mess.

I should add that this update seems to have been released in March so many people may already have it. How many People are reporting problems, I don't know. It isn't clear to me from what I've read. Another article I read a little of says that most Windows users aren't having problems butI don't think the Komando newsletter would write an article about it unless enough are to be worthy of concern.

cisco accessibility for their forums

Hi. Able to login into the cisco forums. But when I try to post, a topic, they have a stupid select a board link, then a mouse over tree view / combo box. So how to then select that with jaws, or nvda. Not able to post, keeps telling me to select a board to continue.

Any one come across this one and how to fix.

Not able to post a topic. Have tried jaws, nvda, windows narrator, tried chrome, edge, ie, firefox and the same or similar issues when I login. Have notified cisco, and the forums, see if they will fix this issue if not, how to get them to make this more accessible. One of the more serious or poor combo box issues with a form or a forum.

Does anyone have experience using the WhatsApp for PC platform with Jaws or NVDA? I’m planning to install for a client but not sure how it will work. Any thoughts?

Both my wife and I are as blind as bats and I did it all by myself without any sighted assistance.

Hi all
I think you should ask a sighted people for help of the first time connect
if you're totaly blind. Sounds like whatsapp web will remember your login
info so you just do that once for a browser. Let's try!

Re: WhatsApp for PC

I suspect the issue lies with the browser you are using. I'm using an iPhone SE for scanning the QR code and on a Windows10 using Google Chrome as my primary browser. It's working fine. I used to use WhatsApp Web on my Windows7 desktop on an earlier version of the Firefox ESR version but when they upgraded that ESR version, the Firefox ceased to work with the WhatsApp Web desktop, meaning that I couldn't scan the QR code on Firefox. Switching over to the Chrome browser fixed the problem though. I suggest you try using the Chrome browser and see if it works out for you. JAWS gives you a better experience although NVDA also works just fine.
Tim.

nope. That doesn't work. It is only valid for like 4-6 months, then you need a QR code again, which is what happened.
