Re: NVDA, read current line and read all
Quentin Christensen
Hi Walter, There are a couple of options for keystrokes depending on how you have NVDA setup. So first: - You can have INSERT (either the numpad 0 or the extended insert) or CAPS LOCK (or all three) set as your NVDA modifier key. Note if you use the numpad insert, you need to have numlock OFF for it to work. - You can use "Desktop keyboard layout" or "Laptop keyboard layout". Desktop layout assumes you have a number pad which can be used for NVDA commands. Laptop keyboard layout reassigns those commands to other keys and so ends up remapping quite a lot of keystrokes. So, to read the current line is NVDA+up arrow in desktop layout, or NVDA+L in laptop layout. To read from the current point onwards in NVDA+down arrow in desktop layout or NVDA+A in laptop layout. As previously noted, the arrows in this case are the dedicated arrow keys (often found in set out in an upside down T shape) not the number pad. Also another thing you will likely be interested in, is the guide to switching from Jaws to NVDA, which you can find here: https://github.com/nvaccess/nvda-community/wiki/SwitchingFromJawsToNVDA Kind regards Quentin.

Re: Anyone ever had a device repaired by HIMS
Olusegun -- Victory Associates LTD, Inc.
Mr. Johnson, if your HIMS toy is STILL UNDER WARRANTY, you'll be golden! If
not, give it a try anyway and good luck. Please note that HIMS Tech Support IS NOT STELLAR! In that regard I wonder which one is in the ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY TOY industry since the demise of GW Micro? All the same, send them E-mail, try to get an RMA if needed, then CROSS YOUR FINGERS as it may take several weeks to get your toy back with the hope that the issue you're having will be fixed straight up. Lastly, keep in mind that, Selvas Healthcare, the parent of HIMS, Inc., is based in Seoul, South Korea; as such, the repair of your toy may need to be done in Seoul thus extending even further the length of time it will take to get it back. Again, give it a try, your mileage may vary such that everything will just pan out as expected! Good luck and all the very best. Sincerely, Olusegun Denver, Colorado

Yes, I had a Book Sense fixed by them, twice actually.
It all went very smoothly.
But that was several years ago and things may have changed.
Hopefully, you’ll hear from people who’ve had more recent experiences with
them.

Also, you can have the caps lock function as an NVDA key. If you do,

all Hi folks. I've decided to dip my toe in the NVDA world but only a little bit at the moment but before I submerge my big toe I'd like some help with something.
In Jaws to read the current line I press insert plus up arrow. To read all, insert and down arrow.
Now I tried the same in NVDA but although insert up arrow read current line, insert down arrow also read current line, it didn't read all.
I got more if I scrolled down but NVDA repeated every blank line with the announcement "blank."
How can I correct this so insert up arrow reads current line, insert down arrow reads all and every blank line is silent. Help appreciated, thank you. Walter.

repairing a Victor reader?
Troy Burnham
Hi all,
Yesterday I dropped my second generation Victor stream, and evidently it fell on the front where the buttons are because the very top of it popped up just a bit. It still works although the bookmark button and the button I press to go between the online and offline folders are more imbedded and don't stick up as much because of the way the top popped up, does anybody know if that top may be able to just be pressed down and it'll pop back into place? This is an older machine so the warranty has long since lapsed on it, and since it still works I don't want to put out the money for a new one. If the portion of the top that's now raised a bit can be snapped back down that would be helpful though, I don't want to try it myself without knowing if that might work for fear that I might make things worse. Thanks. Troy

Hello, here is what you need if you do not already have, the cable to connect your 3.5 to the converter box with your speakers. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NO73MUQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Some speakers have extra cables I did not have the extra cable so I went online to get this one. Hi Heather,
Many thanks for the link to the converter. I had all but given up on making this happen with my Fire stick. I can’t wait to get one of these bad boys and try it out.

From: main@TechTalk.groups.io <main@TechTalk.groups.io> On Behalf Of heather albright
Hello, I got my converter box off amazon. I also got 3.5 head phone jack to connect my speakers to the converter box. Here is the link if you are looking for the same thing: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07DFDQ6HG/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_image?ie=UTF8&psc=1 So with the fire stick, plugg in the fire stick to the ac adaptor and than plugg it in to the converter box. So the 3.5 conector is for the set of speakers that go to the converter box. I thought 3.5 was better than relying on Bluetooth that can lose connection and you are left with out audio till someone resets up the Bluetooth off the fire stick; a sighted assistant and than you have to have a visual screen to work that out. my speakers are usb powered with a 3.5 connection. I plug my speakers in a usb hub to power them and use the 3.5 connector to connect to the converter box. So it works out great. Amazon accessibility cant seem to rap their brains over this one; they still cant believe a blind person can operate a firestick without a screen woe! Now if only they had a remote control with usb powered speakers. Some times the audio gets louder depending on the app like you tube or amazon prime or netflix. So it would have been nice to control the audio with a remote control for the speakers. But, if you do have a smart tv, the fire stick 4.k remote is supposed to work on the tv to control the volume level. But, not worth the money it would cost like over100 dollars vurses the 50 dollars I spent on my set up. I bought my firestick when it was on sale for 15 dollars and the converter box was 22 dollars and the 3.5 connecter was 5 dollars; less than 50 dollars woe! But if you want something more like the fire tv q, that has room for backing things up, you can use the same set up to do the same thing! Cheers Heather

Hey. Thanks alot, this is the kind of setup that I always wanted. The only thing that I don't understand is if I can power this box over usb or do I have to actualy get a bigger power strip? I have a cool idea in mind on how this can work as a small, remote controlled fire pc. :) It can also be made portble if that runs from usb because I have a bluetooth speaker with an aux port, a 30000 mah battery that can power the stick and the convertor if it can be powerred from that and I can put them in a box to look like one product or something. Thanks and best regards.. La 4/14/2020 10:50 PM, heather albright a scris:

Does Amazon Prime Video offer DVS on Xfinity

I’m trying to figure out how to get DVS on Amazon Prime video through my Xfinity X1 box. Xfinity provides a gateway that opens the Prime Video app through my Comcast cable setup, but the Amazon Prime Video app on the Xfinity box doesn’t have an option to turn on DVS. I am able to turn DVS on and off for the regular Xfinity channels, but I cannot get descriptive video when I bring up Amazon Prime on my Xfinity. Any tips?
