Re: troubles with Wi-Fi keyboard on laptop

Are you sure that this keyboard actually has the context key? Many of the newer keyboards do not have it and there may be a function key where the context key would be. You may have to get someone to look at the device to confirm that the key is there.

Hi,

I am using a Microsoft Wi-Fi___33 keyboard on my laptop so I don't have to
sit in my wheelchair so much. For
some odd reason the context menu key is not working, it is a nuisance, how
can I get this key to work please, it seems to be the only key that is not
functioning properly on the Wi-Fi___33 keyboard, it is the same on my
desktop so I am sure it is the keyboard and not the pc's. I am using windows

Question: Using Echo Devices To Make Phone Calls

Ron Canazzi

Hi Group,

I don't really need this feature but a friend of mine has it and for some reason, I can't get mine to work.

What my friend does is to simply say: 'Alexa, call Ron Canazzi.' The device then calls my home phone number.  When I try doing this, Alexa says: 'Bob Blake has not yet signed up for Alexa calling.  Ask Alexa to show contacts.'

I ask Alexa to show my contacts and I see all of them and when I double click on them, nothing happens.

What do I need to do to fully activate this feature?

Thanks for any help.

Hi all,

You need to use computer braille. If writing a document, you need to switch to computer braille and then switch back to regular literary braille. Let me send you the commands tonight. Gotta run to an online meeting. More anon.

Hi Mike,

These are not files. These are hard copies on paper. When they are scanned, they can be sent through email. I would then read them with a braille display and store them in files and folders that I would create myself. Thank you.

Re: reading a PDF file

Richard

Hi Kay,
If you have a Dropbox account, you can give these steps a try, they worked
for me.

Moving a PDF from Voice Dream Reader on an iPhone to the computer:

These instructions were written using the latest builds of Voice Dream
Reader, Dropbox and IOS on an iPhone SE.

1. Open Voice Dream Reader.

2. Locate the file you want to move, and perform a single finger double-tap.

3. In the resulting screen, perform asingle finger double tab on the
document button.

4. In the resulting screen, single-finger swipe to the right until you come
to, "export all text",
and perform a single-finger double-tap.

5. In the resulting screen, single-finger swipe to the right until you hear,
" save to Dropbox", and perform a single-finger double-tap.

6. Single-finger swipe to the right until you come to the save button, and
single-finger double-tap, or swipe further to choose a location,
and then return to the save button.
You should get some feedback on the upload process.
When the upload is complete, you should b returned to Voice Dream Reader.

HTH,
Rick

Hi all,
For the most part I don't have problems with PDF files. But when they are
images and not OCR text I can not read them. I got a book on the Keto life
style and it is accompanied with a PDF and without that PDF it is pretty
much useless. I have tried a few things but haven't had any major success
turning it in to a readable document. Can anyone help me with this? I
would be very grateful. Thanks in advance.

Re: Old FireFox

Gene

Its not a good idea to use old browsers except for very specific purposes such as Webvism.  What can't you get the new version to do?  That would be much better to try to solve than using an old version of a browser that will get older and older and increasingly vulnerable to attacks.

And using an old version will gradually, it may take years, work with fewer and fewer sites so it isn't a permanent solution.

the executible installation file still lives on a computer where it is

Thanks

Hi all,

Get Docuscan Plus! Kurzie and OB are great too, but expensive if you aren't going to be scanning books.

If this is anything like the Facebook desktop app, it's not worth the effort. The best way I've found to send and receive messages through Facebook on a PC is by going to https://mbasic.facebook.com/home.php?ref_component=mbasic_home_logo&ref_page=XEventsDashboardHomeController&refid=25. When you get to this page, simply press Alt plus 4, and you'll be on a page where you can view and send messages.

I have sent this file to someone that will Braille it for me and yes, they are sighted and will scan it in and make sure all is correct.   The only problem is, that they will take a while to do this and I really need this asap.  In the long run it will be done, but to have a readable copy on my computer would be the best.

I hope the OCR is very accurate that you use.  You may know from the context whether the recipes are accurate in terms of numbers, but, unless OCR is more accurate than when I used it a fair amount many years ago, I might want to have a sighted person read anything requiring precise accuracy, such as recipes, which contain numbers.

Without knowing what you tried, no one knows if they are just sending information duplicating what you did.

If programs like Kurzweil or Openbook or other such programs can't recognize the document, then I don't think there is anything you can do except the old fashoned expedient of hiring someone or getting a volunteer to record the image text in the file.
