Hi Group:

I downloaded Kitchen's games from the link Ron sent and I looked on my desktop and there is no icon for that.  Where would I find it and make it easier to find next time?  I have never done anything like this before so I am totally lost.  How do you get to the downloads folder?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  I'm not tech savvy so simple instructions, please!

Re: Saving the URL from an Internet Radio Station as a .pls or .m3u playlist file

Hi Steven,

I have done this in the past with mixed results.  If the player is a JAVA based player, lots of luck.  The only way to get a streaming address when the player is a Java player is to use a program like IP Sniffer and pick from several IP addresses that show up under the program. I know sighted people who have had good results doing this, but the program is largely inaccessible with JAWS and NVDA.

Also, how much electricity does it use? There's probably a kilowatts-per-hour rating on it, or it should tell you how many amperes of current it draws, from which the number of kw/h can be calculated.

Hi,

What would be a good typing program (hopefully free) to help him get started?

Many Thanks,

I like the OLD FASHIONED BOARD GAMES; I have Backgammon, but I can't really
play it. I don't have any instructions for it. I'm therefore wondering if
you could somehow help me gain some elemental understanding on how to play
it? I couldn't find instructions on how to play it on the Internet, but I
may not have entered the correct syntax when searching.

I'll doff my hat and look forward to reading your thoughts. BTW, most of
your posts do crack me up, thanks for the laughter and also for teaching me
things I didn't know before now!

Hi Grumpy Dave,

You don't sound so grumpy today--must be this festive time of year--with all it's current shortcomings notwithstanding.

In any case, I remember talking to Jim Kitchen.  I called him at his suburban Cleveland Ohio home after I download his DOS program that he mysteriously entitled 'a nifty little3 DOS program.'  When you ran it You got a prompt saying something like: 'This program will reformat your entire hard drive.'  No matter what you replied yes or no, it replied with: 'reformatting in progress, 10% 20% 50%' and so on.  At the end of the process.  It said 'task complete.' and then was silent.  I had to do a double take and run some DOS commands just to make sure the program really didn't
reformat my hard drive.  It was at that point that I called him and when he answered, I laughingly said: 'Jim Kitchen, you have too much time on your hands.  That is a pretty bizarre trick with that nifty little DOS program.'  He burst out laughing and said: 'But do you like my games?'  I said oh yes.'  He said, well then I guess you have to take the good with the bad then.'  And he laughed and I laughed and we discussed other aspects of the games he created.  He was sure a character--in a humorous and affectionate way wasn't he?

This entire package was over 90 MB in size.

I couldn't help but remember back in my early days of logging into
Bulletin Boards in the mid to late 1980's.  Think I had a 1200 Baud
Modem, and to download one third of a single MB would have taken the
better part of an hour!

My second machine only had a 10 MB size HD!  A Single MP3 song file
could have taken up the entire space on that drive!

Then I bought a 2400 baud modem and thought I was really cutting Edge then!

We've come a long way Baby!

I just download that 90 MB sized file in about 25 seconds!

Thanks for the Link.

Hi Shelly,

The file you download contains all the games.  It depends where you have your default save folder under your browser settings.  You can see where this folder is by choosing save on the file and then using the tab key to move backward (shift + tab until you get to a combo box that says: 'save in combo box' followed by the name of the folder;  It might say desktop or maybe some other folder such as download.  Downloads in Windows 10 is under 'This PC and then arrow or use first letter navigation 'd' to move to the downloads folder.
