Guys, Thanks for the tips on the browser.

By invisible, I mean that when I looked up something with IE, there was no extraneous  'things' such as places to put favorites or anything like that.  I hope I can find another browser like that.  I think I will see about starting out with brave or the new edge.

After all, I did get used to win 10 even though I was very happy with win7.

Thank you for being there for me.

Yes, Twirl the Dial around to the symbol that feels like a solid Square or rectangle.

At that point, press the trigger, and it should cut the Tape.

I am trying to fix my screen readers when I try to read a file, with the read all command, it just stopps and it waits and than it starts again but, it is really choppy. It just started this afternoon, mainly with jaws2020. I did a jaws repare twice which restarted my system. I also had to  restart the system for a windows update. So I continue to have this issues with reading my files, no matter which program i am using word, notepad or wordpad.  Freedom is not answering their phone been on hold for 2.5 hours in the background. I do not trust their call back, has never worked for me. After reading your message, should I uninstall jaws and reinstall it again. Nothing else has worked. Thank you, Heather

Heather,

You're asking some questions I can answer, and others that require more information.  There are certain PCs, and don't ask me how to predict which ones because I've never found the magic telltale, that tend to have System Protection turned off when Feature Updates are applied.   If that's the case, you will not have any restore points.  But, and this is in addition to the "turn off" situation, restore points are also intentionally removed when a Feature Update is applied, as they are no longer applicable to the refreshed version of Windows 10.   You can go to Control Panel, System, System Protection link and then check to see if it's turned on for your Windows drive.

Now, all of the above being said, System Protection has been very unreliable, always.  It's great if/when it works, but you should never, and I mean never, rely upon System Protection as anything beyond a convenience for rolling back the install of a driver or new program.  You need real backups if you're not taking them already.

I don't understand how your question about resetting your PC applies.  It has no connection to restore points.  Also, keep files means just that:  user data files.  If you use Reset you do lose all installed desktop apps (formerly known as installed programs) as well as store apps you may have installed.

What is it you're trying to fix?

I'll let others discuss oother possible solutions. I ncan't urge you strongly enough in future, to make sure system restore is on when you first start using a computer, unless you have a reversion program you are using. Microsoft, from what I have read, has system restore off in Windows 10 by default. I consider that to be extremely negligent design.

Re: jaws issues

It doesn't matter how fresh a copy of Windows is. Corruption can happen and is not necessarily a product of age. I'm not assuming corruption nor that a system restore will correct it, but this is just the kind of problem system restore is provided for, a problem with an unknown cause and no known solution unless, perhaps you are a tech or equivalent and perhaps may want to spend some real time and work solving it. If you do a restore, I hope it works. I suspect you had your computer shut down fully and brought it up from that state when the problem started. To me, that suggests some sort of corruption either in shut down or boot up. if problems continue, it would suggest a hardware problem that needs to be corrected.

the system several times after the repares. I guess I might have to do a
system restore however, this is a fresh copy of windows it has only ben 3
weeks. It just start all of a sudden today. I even ran a computer scan too.

In an earlier message, you said the problem occurs with more than one screen-reader. That suggests it is very likely that there is a different problen than the screen-reader.

Did you do the usual reboot? Before doing so, did you check to see if the program was maximized? It shouldn't matter but you never know.

You didn't tell us which program you are using to read the file. Have you tried any other, for example, Wordpad instead of Notepad? Again, I don't see why it would matter, but in a case like this, without a good guess of the cause, you never know what trying these easy changes might do in terms of working round or correcting the problem.

And last, do you have restore points available in system restore or a way to revert the system? This may be a case where the cause will never be known but where reversion works.

So it read a couple sentences and it pauses and it gets choppy when trying to read my file. I tried other files, same thing. Any ideas please? Thanks Heather

What screen-reader are you using? it’s a screen-reader command and is the
same any time your screen-reader is in browse mode. It is the same in any
browser you use with that screen-reader that supports browse mode. In other
words, it’s the same in Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc.

JAWS calls browse mode the Virtual PC cursor.
