NVDA 2020.3 RC1 released

Quentin Christensen

  Hi all,

NVDA 2020.3rc1 has been released. This is a release candidate, and unless any critical issues are found, this will be identical to the 2020.3 release.  I would encourage everyone to test this release please.

There are improvements to stability and performance, particularly in Office.  eSpeak-NG has been updated, and there are new touchscreen options.  We've also added new emulated system keys in the input gestures dialog.

More highlights and download links can be found in the release blog post at: https://www.nvaccess.org/post/nvda-2020-3rc1/

Kind regards

Quentin.

The following presumes you have already set yourself up to be able to log in to the Groups.io website.  If you have not, see the opening section of, Controlling the Messages You Receive via E-Mail from Groups.io, for how to get that taken care of.

1.  Once you are logged in, go to the Groups.io Account Page for Your Account. (https://groups.io/account)

2.  By default, you land Login tab/pane for your account. Navigate to the first edit box, email, which will contain the email address currently associated with all subscriptions you've used it for.

3.  Change it to whatever new email address you wish to use for all of your Groups.io subscriptions.

4.  Activate the Change Email button.

5.  Log out (if you're finished, that is) either by locating your account dropdown control or simply by pasting:
https://groups.io/logout
in the web address box and activating that link.

Re: aph light touch brailler?

Monte Single

Yes,

Any mechanical device like a perkins brailler needs servicing once in a while.

Usually it involves cleaning, oiling tension adjustments, etc..

It is a testament to how well the old ones were made that 60 years later, you  are still using it.

Now that’s what I call made in America.

And I’m from Canada!!

Wow!  The one I got in 1958 had a heavy cardboard bottom.  I can feel where I used to sit it on my knees to write.  When I discovered it was getting dented there, I stopped that.  But the braille writer still works.  I have however, had to get it cleaned and fixed several times.  Pam.

Hi Group,

I had a Perkins Braille that the local Lions club bought for me after I went blind in 1965.  I used that Brailler regularly for 40 years.  It finally got so dilapidated that I had to replace it.  The new one I got for over 1500 dollars US has already developed issues. It's much chintzier than the original one I had. The original one had a light wood bottom.  The newer one has what feels like heavy cardboard.  The older one was heavier and I believe most of the internal parts were metal.  The newer one is lighter and a cursory examination of the inside shows that many of the parts are now light plastic.  After only five years of light usage, it has developed a problem where when you press a key to create a letter, the carriage won't move on more than occasional basis.  I have to manually move the carriage.

So I am wondering if the newer versions of the Perkins Brailler are  lower quality than the originals of some 50 years ago.

Re: Location of mail

The cat 5 plug uses an rj45 connector where a phone line uses an rj11 connector. The one for the phone is smaller but similar to the cat5 connector.

interested in the in-box, sent items and trash. It seems like I have

Yes gret it is! Go into account in groups.io. The setting is in there. its pretty easy to do. You just enter in the new email and then a confirmation is sent and you just click that to confirm the new email address and your good to go!

This is a reasonable way to disconnect. That won't cause any issues.

Go ahead and pull it and then you know with absolute certainty that you're disconnected from the net.

You can change your address for all groups in one operation. I'll check how it is done if no one describes it within a few hours. I'd have to look at the site and see.
