Re: how to show notifications in system tray in win10

Also, while I haven't worked with this for a long time, I don't think JAWS shows in the system tray unless you have JAWS set to show in the system tray and not show in tab order. The command JAWS key j moves you to the JAWS window and the interface is different if you have JAWS display in the system tray. You may know all this but if you don't, my remarks may be helpful.

Hi Margaret,

When you want to add or remove icons in the, System Tray, you're actually doing them through the, Select which icons appear on the Taskbar link, in the Taskbar category of Personalization.

whenever I look in the system tray, it always says no action needed. This means no threats were found during a scan.

When you get the, Update & Shutdown option, this means you have updates available and you're being asked if you would like to install the updates, then shut down the computer. You can go to Update and Security to see what the updates are first just to make sure what you're updating just in case there's an update you don't want installed. These can be security updates as well as program or operating system updates.

When you get the Safely Remove Hardware thingy, this should only appear when you have an external device connected to your computer like, an external harddrive or your Victor Reader.

Hi, Mike:

Thank you very much. The choices that were offered bore much more of a
resemblance to my system tray. I don't know if I just saw system tray
and Windows 10 in the messages before and didn't read carefully enough
or maybe tabbed somewhere instead of right arrowing or whatever.

I have a question. I have Windows security on in the system tray and
whenever I look in the system tray, it always says no action needed.
However, there have been several times since I got the Windows 10 last
October that the only item involving shutdown when I've gone to shutdown
the machine is update and shutdown. Are the two items separate and the
update and shutdown is not a security thing? I try to be careful on the
web, but anyone can make a mistake. Does this item change: Is it good
to have it? I think safely remove hardware is sometimes in the overflow
section when I have my external hard drive or Victor Reader Stream
plugged in and I'm trying to make it easier to get to since the devices
are precious.

Thank you again,

Margaret

Re: hard drive enclosures

Go on Amazon and look for an enclosure for a SATA drive that supports USB for probably 10 or $20.  When you get the enclosure open it up and plug in the data and power connections to the drive then close the enclosure and hook up the USB and power cables to the enclosure the plug the USB cable into your computer and you should be ready to go.  Just go to file manager and you should find the drive listed there.

Subject: [TechTalk] closing an open program that's not on the taskbar

Hi all,

I'm running windows 10 version 1809, and I just tried to open a game
that I played earlier in the day and when I tried to open it this time
it said the game was already running. It's not on my taskbar or in my
system tray though, nor is it in my task manager so how do I get to the
copy that's already running?

Thanks.

Troy

You can get an enclosure for a good price at a computer center.

I have a second internal 1tb hard drive and now want to turn it in to a external drive.  So if anyone knows how to do this, can you please tell me what I should get to do this? I am hoping to make it a external USB powered drive. It is a seegate 1tb drive.
Thanks Heather
