Re: Need Help with Thunderbird

Hi guys, I have a different issue with thunderbird. Wonder if anyone can help.

When I try to access the option menus, the menus come up all right, but there is no buttons at the bottom of the page to save changes you make.

Anyone know what is happening here. I am using the latest version, Billy

Thanks Sam, that did the job.

I must have misheard something, or misunderstood something I heard. I did have an older version of the Import Export Tool. Getting the one from the link you sent, I got my old messages imported successfully.

Thanks again.

Great  list!

Hi Evan,

Thunderbird updates itself, and you are running the same version as I am, which is the latest.

You may not have downloaded the latest version of the add-on. The add-on below is from the official Thunderbird addons repository and claims it will work with versions between 60x and 70x:

Good luck

Hey Guys,

I had some major problems with the unsupported Windows Live Mail, so I dumped it and got Thunderbird.

I've gotten it working pretty well so far, but I am having some issues with it.

The main one is that I cannot import my messages from Windows Live Mail.

I found some instructions, but they do not seem to apply to my version of Thunderbird.

I was told to export the WLM messages in .eml format, which I did.

Then create a new folder in my Thunderbird Local Folders section and then select it, which I also did.

Then, I was told to right click on that folder and find Import Export Tools. But that option isn't in my Context menu.

So I went out to Google and found an add-on called Import Export Tools and downloaded it.

I couldn't figure out where to put it, and the page where the file was located didn't tell me, so I once again went to Google and looked up how to install an add-on from a file. I followed the instructions and was told that the add-on was incompatible with my version of Thunderbird, version 68.10.1. Apparently, there are newer versions of Thunderbird. I wasn't aware that I was getting an older version when I got it a couple weeks ago.

I'm using a Windows 7 laptop, which I hope to replace in the not too distant future, but I'd like to get my old WLM messages imported before then.

A related problem is that I do not see any way to update Thunderbird in any of the menus.

So you can see, I need a bit of help. <smile>

I'm not sure how old this program is, so perhaps it's not quite ready for prime time yet. Surely, importing messages from other email clients is a pretty basic function that I shouldn't need an add-on to get, shouldn't it?

Oh, I did try to import from the Tools menu, but that didn't work. I only get two choices in there, Becky and Outlook. Neither one of those works.

Any help would be appreciated.

Much thanks.

Evan

Yes maybe it works that way for you but, whenMSSE finds something & quarantines it, I get the potentially unprotected message.  I go in and do what's necessary and the PC status protected, message returns.

I really doubt it.  Whenever I've seenn such a message, its because the
definitions aren't automatically updating and you should manually update
them.  Quaranteening something means the item is no longer active or
potentially active.  it is ;separated from anyplace where it could do harm
and antimalware programs don't care if you leave something in quaranteen.

Either the program has found something and quarantined it, the program needs
updating or, a scan needs to be run.  I don't know how many days the
computer can run without MSSE doing a scan that it takes to give you the
potentially unprotected message.  Try doing a manual quick scan, reboot the
computer and see if that'll clear up the potentially unprotected message.
After rebooting the computer wait 10 or 15 minutes before check for the
unprotected status in the system tray.  I've noticed that after a reboot it
takes a little time for it to come back, if it's going to.

I'm running Microsoft Security Essentials on my Windows 7 and the last
several days, when checking the system tray, it tells me that my computer is

I've checked in all my settings under both Essentials and Windows update and
nothing has changed.

Any ideas why this is happening?

Thanks.

When that happens on my windows 7 I do a scan with MSE, and when it has finished my PC is protected again.

Try manually updating the definitions first. You'll save work and time. When I manually update definitions, if they are successfully updated, there is no lag time. the system tray shows protected.

I did notice that once I updated the intelligence files, it was normal again. For some reason, Windows is still not downloading my updates for that program automatically. I have all the settings correct, other things download automatically, although they don't install until I say so, but the intelligence files won't even download until I manually check for updates.

great speaker stands for the desktop

heather albright

I got 2 sets of speakers stands for my jbl pebbles plugg and play speakers. Their both for small speakers. I got them when they were on sale.  The first is the Stageek Aluminum Desktop Speaker Stands: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07SHCLR7T/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The second is

Kanto S2 Desktop Speaker Stands for Small Speakers:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00X16S7EQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I just wanted to know if any one has the technical term as to why the first stands make my speakers sound better than the second pare.  I put them in the exact same place. Just to my ears the first speaker stands make my speakers sound better  than the second! My sighted room-mate thinks it is in my head; that is why I am asking because, i remember there was a technical term having  to do with sound placement.

But I think speaker stands make an overall better sound improvement for your computer set up.  I can recommend both of them. If anyone needs better sound from their speakers. Sometimes your tables with the speaker directly on them, muffles the sound or the vibrations of what your playing is distorted!

Cheers,

Heather

Gene,

It was a friend of mine who uses the program that told me about the monthly charge, and shortly after that I somehow found the same site and saw the same thing my friend saw. In fact, at the time I was going to pay the monthly charge because I was using the software quite a bit, so I did what I needed to do and got an e-mail back with the person's pay pal info for me to send my money, but I waited until the beginning of this month before doing anything and by then I decided to pay 6 months at a time and that's when I had trouble finding the site again. I remember getting to the site that was for sale the first time I tried it and just don't remember how I eventually found the correct place. Whatever I eventually found was an actual web page and not the download link you sent me.

Everything seems to be preset, as I say with multiextra you just go down
to search on youtube and once you hit on that you type what you want and
hit search and the listview starts populating.

I'm not sure why but when I downloaded multiextra from the link you sent
me so far I haven't been able to get it installed. I had a previous
version installed and I tried to uninstall it first and it wouldn't
uninstall, so I decided to install over the top and it didn't seem to
work. The install seemed to start because it seemed to be unzipping some
files but when it got through with that it never went any further. It's
not causing me any problems so I may just go back to using Pontes.

The last time I used Pontes the downloads weren't always showing up when

Re: Need Help with Thunderbird

Evan Reese

Oh, I just discovered that if I hit Enter on one of these files in my imported WLM Contacts, I can edit it. But that still does not fix the problem of my not being able to read them without having to hit Enter the way I can the other addresses, and it still won't fill in automatically the way it does with the addresses it has in the other address book. So they're there, but not really integrated with the other Contacts.

That might help you advise me. I hope so.

Evan

Hi, Evan,

You need not pay to transfer your contacts from Windows Live Mail to Thunderbird.

1. Export the contacts from Windows Live Mail in .csv format.

2. In Thunderbird, go to Tools & within Tools, go to Address Book

3. In the Address Book tab, go to Tools & select Import.

4. On the first Import screen, select Address Book & go to the next screen.

5. On the second screen, select Text as the option. In the types of files covered in this option, it mentions csv files also.

6. Follow the prompts to complete the import process.

Hi Sam,

I'm afraid I have another question.

I want to import my Contacts from Windows Live Mail into Thunderbird.

From the Googling I have done so far, it looks like I have to install another add-on to do that.

If I'm not mistaken, when I click the link to this add-on, called

MoreFunctionsForAddressBook

I have to pay for it. There's a PayPal button at the top of the page.

Do I really have to pay for an add-on to get my Contacts into Thunderbird?

I hope you'll tell me it ain't so! <smile>

It isn't as though I want everything for free, but importing Contacts from one email to another seems like it should be a part of the email program already.

Thanks much.

Evan

Evan

Re: Need Help with Thunderbird

Evan Reese

Hello Sam.

I'm sorry, but I am still not getting it.

I did export the Contacts in CSV format, and I did import them into Thunderbird. And something did import. I know because the file with the Contacts that I saved shows up in my Address Books. And I also know that something imported because there were 276 Contacts, and when I tab into that file, JAWS says that there are 276 somethings in there. But I cannot read anything in that list the way I can with the few addresses in my Thunderbird address book, and when I try to send an email with an address that is in there, it doesn't automatically fill it in the way it does with the few Contacts I already have in my Thunderbird address book. So whatever happened, the addresses are not in there, or something else is wrong with them.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks and sorry again.

Evan

Setting up an email list on groups.io

Hi,

I want to create a Groups.io list for a friend, but I want to make sure it's legal to create a new account with his info.  would it be against the terms, do you think?

Thanks,

Here is a correction. I previously sent the direct download link to download the program. The home page is this:

Don't assume and play around. While in many cases, nothing will happen, for
popular sites, people intentionally purchase addresses similar so if people
mistype, they will be taken to a malicious site and malware may try to be
downloaded to the computer. While this is done more for popular sites,
given the dangerous security situation of the modern Internet, I would
advise against just guessing.

I checked. Here is part of the site dealing with the program.

Hi all,

I've been using a program called multiextra recently, it's a
blind-friendly program for downloading from youtube. The person who
created the program has recently started charging a small monthly fee
but when I try to get to what I thought the web site was the site I
reach is for sale. The site I tried to access was softjewel.com, does
anybody know what the actual site is?

Thanks.
