Is Blind Tech List Dying?

Gerald Levy

I have noticed that since Sunday, message volume  on the Blind Tech list has diminished dramatically  While message volume on this list has been very high.   There have been very few messages posted on the Blind Tech list over the past two days.  Have most Blind Tech members defected to this list?  Unlike the owner of the Blind Tech list, the owner of this list is always actively involved  in ongoing threads.  But like other list members, I would like to see more in the way of tech discussions and less in the way of idel chit-chat.  Hopefully, a separate list will be created to handle the banter so that the main list can concentrate on answering serious tech-related inquiries.  Again, many thanks to Carlos for doing such a great job.  Now he’ll probably ban me.  LOL!

changing system time and date

Adrien Collins <adriencollins22160@...>

Hi

Just curious. When I was in the Uk in July, I changed the
system time and date or time zone, I am in France which is
an hour ahead of the UK. For some strange reason, when I
changed the time etc, my antivirus etc would not up-date, I
had to reinstall it, it was avira, I will be moving back to
the uk permanently shortly and will need to change the date
etc, what is the best way around this? Why did it affect
some of my programs when it came to up-dating?

Regards

Adrien

podcast by Rick of the BGZ site

Matt

Well, he talks about W10 and it is sort of confirming my feelings on W10 and that is you don’t want this as your main OS on your PC if that is the only PC you have.  It would be ok in a dual boot thing and making W7 or even W8 your default OS. So listening to this podcast I would recommend to anyone that is totally blind to wait on W10 till it is about 6 or 8 months or so old and see how things improve with it. I know myself I don’t plan on upgrading to W10 anytime soon. JMO!

Hi,
I never understood why people would hurt their tech things just because. I never have, and would never smash them. I always ask, is it the device's fault? And the answer tends to be no. If its something software, I'll fix it. If hardware, will get it repaired.

Re: playing OGG files on the idevices

Matt

Hi, with doing some research I cannot find a way to play these on the iPhone . Everything I turn up say they need to be converted.  So I don’t see an easy way. Especially accessible way other than converting them to something drop box or the iPhone can play. Now I think maybe just maybe if you sync these to your iPhone thru iTunes and in iTunes is a box to check to say convert files toAAC and this might work and make it easy to do as it will convert them to AAC files all at once when syncing. I think you find this box under the summary tab. This is all I can suggest at this point! HTH !

I'd be curious to have more of a description of what it looks like when you wear it and how easy is it to dig through if you need something from it. Since I'm a girl I get to wear a purse, but I'm picky about what kind I will use. I have to have one that I can wear across my front, like a messenger bag, because I have issues with relinquishing my stuff out of my sight so to speak. I've tried backpack purses, but they are a pain to get anything out of quickly.

It also occurs to me that the chat subgroup might have another useful
benefit. If you subscribe to it, but at certain times it becomes too much
or is overwhelming your inbox, you can simply disable it by setting it to
"no mail" for as long as you like and you still won't be missing out on
content from the primary list.

Subject: [TechTalk] Chat subgrou for Tech Talk

Okay, since I suspect this is likely to be the prevailing opinion, I
have gone ahead and created a chat subgroup. I agree that the excessive
chatting may simply be a side effect of the fact that it is a new list, but
having it available certainly can't hurt. One of the differences between a
standard/parent group and a subgroup, is that only members of the parent
group can subscribe to a subgroup. I hope that everyone understands that as
much as I don't want to be a jerk, if we're going to make this change, I
will have to mostly enforce the restriction on too much general
chatting/humor on the primary list. Of course, part of my reasoning for
creating a new list was to provide a more open minded/friendly environment
so this doesn't mean that I'm going to turn into a raving dictator. In my
opinion and experience, most rules which are too strictly enforced only wind
up irritating those who are required to follow them.

The subscription address for the chat list is
TechTalk+chat+subscribe@groups.io
<mailto:TechTalk+chat+subscribe@groups.io>
and the posting address is
TechTalk+chat@groups.io <mailto:TechTalk+chat@groups.io>
