It also occurs to me that the chat subgroup might have another useful benefit.  If you subscribe to it, but at certain times it becomes too much or is overwhelming your inbox, you can simply disable it by setting it to "no mail" for as long as you like and you still won't be missing out on content from the primary list.

Okay, since I suspect this is likely to be the prevailing opinion, I have gone ahead and created a chat subgroup.  I agree that the excessive chatting may simply be a side effect of the fact that it is a new list, but having it available certainly can't hurt.  One of the differences between a standard/parent group and a subgroup, is that only members of the parent group can subscribe to a subgroup.  I hope that everyone understands that as much as I don't want to be a jerk, if we're going to make this change, I will have to mostly enforce the restriction on too much general chatting/humor on the primary list.  Of course, part of my reasoning for creating a new list was to provide a more open minded/friendly environment so this doesn't mean that I'm going to turn into a raving dictator.  In my opinion and experience, most rules which are too strictly enforced only wind up irritating those who are required to follow them.

Hi,
Everything posted about cleaning the keyboard is accurate. I was mostly talking about a laptop keyboard. I had a friend that flattened some keys from pounding on them out of frustration. He thought he killed his laptop, but what he did was flatten those little rubber pimples that lay beneath the keys. The key consists of a square or rectangular ring, a little rubber pimple and the key which has a hinged wire clip. So essentially you can use something pointy, like a steak knife in my case, and you carefully pick at the bottom center of the key until it flips up. The little rubber pimple comes flying out, beware. Then you can remove the the key, then the bracket. There are some seller's on ebay that are very helpful in choosing the right key, there are many variences, and giving some links to step-by-step instructions. It's delicate work and the parts are very flimsy, so it's not for everyone.

At this time, I feel there is a bit too much chat but assume it will calm
down after the first week. It is new and came about because of the confusion
on the Blindtech list. There are many knowledgeable and helpful listers here
who are capable of giving much needed advice on problems.
From what I have seen, the "chat" lists kind of start busy and taper off
with time. But I will certainly go with either decision and if this remains
chatty but still offers help when needed I am okay with that. My delete key
functions quite well.
All I would ask is that we don't have one rule today and another tomorrow or

Mike B. <mb69mach1@...>

Hi Joanne & Marie,

To turn off blocked quotes, try the following:
1. Open the Settings Center, & press, control, shift, + D, to open Settings Center default all applications.  You can open the Settings Center by pressing, Insert / Jaws key + 6, on the number row above the main keyboard, or, press, Insert / Jaws key + F2, to open the Run Jaws Manager, then arrow down to Settings Center & press enter.
2. Arrow down to, Web / HTML / PDFs, press right arrow to open.
3. Down Arrow to, Reading, right arrow to open.
4. Down arrow to, Indicate Block Quotations, & press the spacebar to uncheck this checkbox.
5. Tab to, Apply, press the spacebar, tab to, Okay, press enter to save your change & close the Settings Center.
Take care.

The option is only available if you open the Quick Settings dialog while an HTML capable window/control has focus.  So if you open it while either your browser or Email client's preview pane set to view as HTML have focus, it should be available.

When you are in a message body, open quick settings with JAWS key v.  Look down the settings, and change what you want to change.  When you find something you want to change, such as block quotes, use the space bar to move through the available settings.  You may repeat the settings as often as you want by continuing to press the space bar.  Once you have changed whatever settings you want to change for as many items as you wish, press enter to save the changes and return you to the program window you were previously in.

Your home computer may not be indicating bloc quotes because you are not reading mail as html at home.  On your friends computer, messages are being read as html and you are in the virtual pc cursor.

Hi all,
Considering that there have been at least, 3 people asking how to do this, I
will provide an overview. Basically, you need to write:
j u a r a s j u a r a s j u a s t j u a s t. You can write it many many
times, but this is enough. Before this, though, put something like an e. And
after that, put something like hello. That's all that there's to it. I
personally never copy and paste, I always write it out myself. If anyone is
interested, please, drop me a note, and I can teach you within about 4
emails. Oh, within the tag itself, there is no space. I just put them there,
so that you know what to type there.
Hope this helps, and hope noone's offended with the overview. :)

It is hard to know when to draw the line when it comes to chatting on tech like lists. Invaribly the topic will stray from a topic relating to technology and turn into something not even remotely pertaining to the original discussion. I see it happen all of the time. I think it is a good idea to create another list to hopefully keep the main focus of the list strictly on technology. This is just my opinion for what it’s worth, lol.

I'm raising this for discussion.  This is something that I think deserves serious consideration for the development of the list.

It may be that there should be two lists, one mainly for discussion of technical problems and another for more general discussion.  I think many potential list members may leave the list or not join if the list becomes known as a chat and tech list.  This list is so much turning into a chat list that it may not be properly characterized as a tech list.  This isn't a question of whether some members like chat.  It's a question of what kind of list this should be and that a large number of busy people may not join.  I would think that having a chat list where topics started on this list can be moved would make this list significantly more attractive and useful for many people who would not join or remain on this list if it is mostly a chat list with some tech discussion.  That is what this list appears to be turning into.  .

Yes, I think this is the case as well, It is new and people is like the easy
going of the owner/Mod and I do think the chick chat will slow down. I would
give it a couple of weeks if it did not than I would look at doing something
different.

Thanks,

At this time, I feel there is a bit too much chat but assume it will calm
down after the first week. It is new and came about because of the confusion
on the Blindtech list. There are many knowledgeable and helpful listers here
who are capable of giving much needed advice on problems.
From what I have seen, the "chat" lists kind of start busy and taper off
with time. But I will certainly go with either decision and if this remains
chatty but still offers help when needed I am okay with that. My delete key
functions quite well.
All I would ask is that we don't have one rule today and another tomorrow or
the next, depending on mood, health or whatever. I have been known for
having strong opinions but always do my best to listen and respect the
opinions of others.
that is my two cents and we all know what that is worth these days.

I had actually considered creating a subgroup for this purpose which is a
feature of groups.io, but I wasn't sure how many members would bother
subscribing. Thoughts and opinions would be appreciated. I am willing to
go with the majority vote.

Use this site:
www.isitdownrightnow.com

Type the web site, without any http://www. just the site such as microsoft.com in the edit field and press enter. Unless you are blocking JAVA scripts, you will get results.

Here is something that might help with these
errors that I got from another list.

as of this writing at 9:25 PM EST on Monday,
August 31 2015 Bard is completely down.a a Let
me give you guys a good website to use if you
ever wonder if your provider is at fault, or if it's bard actually down.

please always use:

You can type the address of a website into the
box on the web page, and it will tell you if the website is down.

For example, when I typed

into the edit box, I got the following message.

it's not just you!

looks down from here.

So, do yourselves a favor and bookmark

<http://isup.me>http://isup.me, and use it next
time you can't access bard.a You'll get a pretty clear answer right away.

I have a second Jaws question.  On the computer I'm using Jaws is saying block quote, and the person who helped me set mine up on my own computers set it to not say this.  I thought it might be in graphics or attributes but not having luck getting rid of it.  I hope someone can help.
