And just as I thought, following a link to a group
brings up a page that has a form for joining the list.

See this page for the results of a search of
Freelists for blind programmers. I don't recall just what you are looking
for in terms of the focus of the list, but you should find what you want there
and by following the link to the list you want, you should find subscription
information.

Subscribing to Blind Programmers list
Dave
Hello,
I've been reading these posts about subscribing to the Blind Programmers list, and I too attempted to use the address given, and received an Error. Then I recalled that some List some where, I subscribed to, used a + instead of a - in the address field. Example: program-l+subscribe@freelists.org I sent another Email, this time with the + and I have yet to get an Error message, but I have yet to get any sort of Message back from this list. Don't know if a Real Person has to review the request before it goes through, or if my email using the + is Circling the Globe right now, and will continue to do so for the next day or two, when then I'll get an Error telling me this address was undeliverable etc. Grumpy Dave

Re: Eloquence for NVDA
Gene
When you follow the link to the page describing the
add on, there is a line of text after the description that says get the
app. Below that are two links, one for the version compatible with
the new version of NVDA and another for the version compatible with previous
NVDA versions. Sometimes, if something isn't as you expect, such as a
download link, you have to read either all the page or a good deal of it.
I started reading the description because I thought I would find something
during or after it for downloading.
Also, there is a SAPI version of Eloquence which, I
believe is sold by Code Factory as well. The advantage of it is that it is
completely independent of any future changes in NVDA so you will never have
compatibility problems in future. Also, it will run with any program that
supports SAPI 5. If you only want Eloquence and not the other synthesizer
bundled with the add-on, I would suggest downloading demos of each and seeing if
you like one better for some reason, unless you already purchased the Eloquence
add-on in the past. In that case, there mus be a way to update the license
for the new version.

How does the add-on get updated if someone already has it installed but is using it with an older version of NVDA? I purchased my Eloquence through AT Guys, and I also got the Vocalizer voices package at the same time. How does all of this work once the NVDA update is installed? Hi, Mike,
I have the older Add-On which works with the current version of NVDA. I haven't installed the 2019 update yet, but if I remember correctly, codefactory gives you a one week trial of the add-on that starts by default once you've installed it.
Once that trial ends, you can purchase it from codefactory.

That's a fine idea, but sometimes you don't get a choice. Those of us who need to leave our systems on all the time fall into this category.

The address:

have
always used the –subscribe (hyphen-subscribe) designation.

Braille me dots fixed by experimenting
Josh Kennedy
HI,
I found how to make this less of an issue. If I read with 3 fingers rather than one, such as with my pointer finger or index finger on my right hand, and using my middle finger and ring finger to read ahead it seems like the dot sometimes not coming up is much less of an issue because my other two fingers maybe add more pressure or shift the display ever so slightly so the issue hardly ever occurs at all. Or if I slant the display slightly as if reading from a podium or lecturn, the issue of some dots not coming up happens almost not at all then. I think its just figuring out how best to read with this display to keep the issue from occuring. And again I think the display is fine its just how it is, as in that's probably just how magnetic displays work. But again using 3 fingers to read using my index finger to do most of the reading and scanning ahead with the other two fingers makes sure for some reason the dots that need to be up are really popped up. Dot1 cell 13 on my braille me from atguys.com ?
Josh Kennedy
Hi,
I wonder if this is just the nature of how magnetic braille displays work? But sometimes, not all the time, dot1 of cell 13 on my braille me will not pop up, tapping it very slightly or panning back and forth makes it come up. Also the braille test function shows all dots going up and down reliably but sometimes lightly brushing the display makes some dots go down which have not gone all the way down yet. Generally reading is fine and the cell13 dot1 issue only occurs every now and then, and sometimes its dot1 or dot2 of cell 7 or 8 but again a light tap or light shake fixes it. And it generally does not interfere with me reading books at all. Does this happen with the dot watch since it uses magnetic braille cells as well? I wonder if this is just the nature of magnetic braille cells? Other than that the braille on this device is excellent oh and also a bug in the firmware where my iPod doesn't automatically connect again to the braille me if I close the connection and re-open it. I have to re-pair the braille me. Josh Sent from my iPod Sent from my iPod

Re: jaws 2019

I had the same problem with the speech with j19. J2020 does not have this issue. 2020 also starts up much quicker kind like NVDA does; thank god! I tried my tab key with both versions and it is working like normal. I know you can change it in the jaws settings insert+6 and type echo and you can change the settings. Cheers Heather

Hello,
I'm using jaws 2019 on a demo-basis. I've got two issues that I'm not liking. The first is the eloquence voice seems choppier or less clear than 2018 does, and slower. Did they change synths? Also, certain keys when I press them no longer echo like in previous versions, the tab key is one I can think of as an example. Does anyone know how to fix this?
Thanks. Dave.
