Re: Question Pertaining to an Outlook.com Email Address and managing mail with rules
Carolyn Arnold
I have Outlook and have made individual boxes for each group.
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
You do that by: 1. Highlight group. 2. Press Control+Shift+e, and name the folder. 3. While group is highlighted, press Applications, S. 4. Arrow to the desired folder for the group.

As such I have two hopefully quick questions. I'm new to Outlook.com so just assume ignorance and I won't be offended. So if for instance I take the step of moving all my blindness related email lists to this address and make rules to filter them all into one folder for such messages if I create this rule either in Outlook the application/program or thunderbird does the rule only take effect locally I.E. on the machine on which it was created or server side so that any device accessing the contents of this email would abide by it? Does that make sense? Similarly is it more advisable to make a rule for each individual email list or can they all be grouped under one rule? I read a book on outlook the app/program before asking this question and was thus far unable to obtain the answer thus I ask to learn. Thanks in advance. Robin

Hi,

There are three possibilities here: 1. ATGuys helped to produce it and that's why they are also able to sell it at the same price. I find this unlikely, as they also have a distributor here in the UK (just so you have all the information, Computer Room Services also sell it). 2. ATGuys are a charity and are able to stay afloat through government funding, grants, and/or donations. After a cursory look at the ATGuys website, I can't see any links for donating, nor a registered charity number. I could be wrong - they just may not have published that information. 3. Distributors purchase reseller's licences in bulk, and thus at a lower cost, in order to sell to customers at the same price. Either way, they are still making a profit, without having done any of the production work. I've never liked the distributed sale side of things, especially for digital products where it's easy to self-distribute (indeed, CF are already doing it!), because in the end, either the producer or the consumer end up losing out. There could be something that I'm missing that would be totally obvious to experienced entrepreneurs, but from the little experience I know about running a business, the idea is to make a profit in what you sell. That's why I very rarely use Amazon, EBay, and your high street shops. The obvious exceptions, of course, are supermarkets, and a situation whereby the manufactuare is unwilling to sell directly, in which case you have no choice. In any case, it's up to you where you choose to get it, I'm just stating the general way of things when you buy from a distribution agency so you can make an informed decision based on those factors. Cheers, Damien.

All ATGuys do is sell the CodeFactory version, likely at a profit, so better to buy it direct from CF in my opinion. Cheers, Damien.

Re: Low-Cost Braille Displays
Josh Kennedy
I own both the orbit reader and the braille me. On the orbit reader the dots show up propperly all the time. It uses modified cell phone vibration micro-motors to move the dots up and down. Editing on the orbit reader is excellent. It is quiet enough to use in a meeting or church service. The braille on both the orbit reader and the braille me that I own feels like elevator door braille, ATM machine signage braille, hotel room door braille, or bathroom signage braille. It is signage-quality braille on both low-cost displays. The braille me is $531 from www.atguys.com or national braille press. The orbit reader costs more at $600 and also add $10 shipping for both displays. The braille me is also good, and quiet. The orbit reader sounds like somebody shuffling cards quietly when it refreshes. The braille me refreshes its dots all at once with its electromagnetic display technology and it sounds like somebody walking on gravel or small rocks very quietly and quickly. The display being behind the keyboard furthest from you on the braille me does not give me any issues. I like reading with both of them. Sometimes a dot won't pop up. A light shake or tap fixes this or holding the display at a slight angle. I think this can be fixed with firmware update that will send repeated 3 or 4 electric pulses to the electropermanent magnets of all 120 dots making sure 3 or 4 times that dots that need raised are raised and dots that need lowered are lowered. But the very occasional dot not popping up on the braille me is so very occasional it does not bother me at all. The braille me has a clock and calendar you set using the cursor router button and left navigation keys. And I like that it has on-board braille translation but the orbit does not have on-board braille translation. Also the braille me supports more languages out of the box. I love both displays and recommend both of them!!

Winamp Playlist problem
Samuel Wilkins
Hello all, I am having a problem with the Winamp Playlist. When I have a playlist of files in Winamp, I would like to view the files to see how long they are. However, the playlist editor only displays the first file, and going up and down with the arrow keys doesn't show the other files. Could it be something I pressed to make it do this? Thank you in advance.

Hi Kerryn,
It might just be that the list owners / moderators
are just flat out slow about getting around to giving the okay to new
subscribers. I'm experiencing the same thing trying to subscribe to a
different list. I sent the subscribe email 2 days ago & I'm still
waiting for the okie dokie.
Take care. Mike. Sent from my iBarstool.

Low-Cost Braille Displays
Jujube
Hey everyone, What do you think of low-cost braille displays like the Braille Me and the Orbit Reader? Any other new and inexpensive braille displays worth mentioning?
1. Do the dots show up properly? Are they noisy? 2. How easy is it to edit documents? Like how well do the cursor buttons work? 3. Any other thoughts?

See this page for the results of a search of
Freelists for blind programmers. I don't recall just what you are looking
for in terms of the focus of the list, but you should find what you want there
and by following the link to the list you want, you should find subscription
information.

Subscribing to Blind Programmers list
Dave
Hello,
I've been reading these posts about subscribing to the Blind Programmers list, and I too attempted to use the address given, and received an Error. Then I recalled that some List some where, I subscribed to, used a + instead of a - in the address field. Example: program-l+subscribe@freelists.org I sent another Email, this time with the + and I have yet to get an Error message, but I have yet to get any sort of Message back from this list. Don't know if a Real Person has to review the request before it goes through, or if my email using the + is Circling the Globe right now, and will continue to do so for the next day or two, when then I'll get an Error telling me this address was undeliverable etc. Grumpy Dave

Re: Eloquence for NVDA
Gene
When you follow the link to the page describing the
add on, there is a line of text after the description that says get the
app. Below that are two links, one for the version compatible with
the new version of NVDA and another for the version compatible with previous
NVDA versions. Sometimes, if something isn't as you expect, such as a
download link, you have to read either all the page or a good deal of it.
I started reading the description because I thought I would find something
during or after it for downloading.
Also, there is a SAPI version of Eloquence which, I
believe is sold by Code Factory as well. The advantage of it is that it is
completely independent of any future changes in NVDA so you will never have
compatibility problems in future. Also, it will run with any program that
supports SAPI 5. If you only want Eloquence and not the other synthesizer
bundled with the add-on, I would suggest downloading demos of each and seeing if
you like one better for some reason, unless you already purchased the Eloquence
add-on in the past. In that case, there mus be a way to update the license
for the new version.
