I contacted the Amazon Support Staff today, and here is what they told me.

Because I did not have your full name, or your Mailing Address, they
could not open your Account, and so they could only give me advice to
pass to you.

What they said was that the Book you have, if you happened to purchase
while you were in the United States, and then attempted to download and
read it once back home in your own country, the Book may not transfer
correctly.

They also said, perhaps you may have an older copy of one of their Books
that has yet to be Updated to correctly be read in the Kindle for PC for
the Blind. The person I was speaking with reluctantly told me there
still ware Kindle Books that still needed to be updated.

What this means is that "Some Day" there may be an Update for your Book,
and at that time it should be compatible with your Kindle for PC program.

What you can do to make sure you have the latest updates for any Books,
is to start up Kindle for PC and go to the TOOLS Menu and then Arrow
down to Sync and Check for Updates

By doing this, if there are any updates for any Book you have previously
purchased, those are to be downloaded to your System at that time.

And if none of the above fixes the problem, they told me that you would
need to go to the Amazon Web site, and Log In, and then go to their Help
section, and engage in a Chat Session with someone who would then get
your personal information and be able to open your Account, and then be
able to Help you.



That was the best they could do for me about the troubles concerning the
Book you purchased.

Looks like you have a couple of things that you can try, and hopefully
one of those will end with the Book being able to work in your System.

reminds me of my own recent Book purchase. I bought a Book about
learning to Program in Python. And it is a very good book. The only
problem was that when ever there were examples of Code given, the Author
had used Photos of Screen Shots to display his Code. I suppose I could
have attempted to use the JAWS OCR Feature, but I didn't really want to
Jump through those kinds of Hoops just to get some examples of Code.
Plus there were lots of examples, and I don't know how accurate the OCR
results would be.

I learned from my mistake and now have Amazon send me a Sample of the
Book before I make the purchase.

Another Hoop to Jump through, but much easier than messing with
converting several hundred photos into Text.

I should say that I don't know if the problem has been fully corrected. Reentering passwords seems to solve the problem and it may not have earlier, which suggests a partial correction but it may not be fully corrected until people who didn't reenter their passwords no longer have to.

So I am trying to understand this standard so I can apply it to my scripts. I do need jaws not to speak while its performing surtin tasks. I have been using the functions speech on and speech off to do this but I saw this in the standards list:

Never use the SpeechOff and SpeechOn functions as a means of suppressing speech output temporarily. If you must suppress speech for specific purposes, use a specific global variable for the specific suppression.

Could somebody help me understand what they want instead of speech on and speech off?

What version? Do alt h, then a to find out. If you let the remember password dialog read when it begins the announcement, you should hear, at the end, something like, remember and then a command like alt r, do not remember, and alt d. Those are examples. I'm not saying those are the actual commands. If you don't want to be asked at all, I can check how but to do so, I want to know the verwsion in case things have changed. Some settings dialogs are different in newer versions. I have some older versions here and I' have the newest version as well.

Something else you could try, is to unload that Book from your Kindle,
and from the System.


You can do this from within the Kindle for PC program. Think it is
under FILE.


Then re-download it again.


And if that doesn't work, then I hate to even suggest this, but you
could try sending an Email to Amazon's Kindle Support Staff and see what
happens. A try is better than not trying.


Hey, here's an idea, send me the description of what is wrong again, and
the title of the book, and I'll call them for you and then post what
they tell me.
