I would go in to Settings (instructions below) and see what is running in your machine because most likely it is Microsoft Edge along with several other software’s that have permission to simply run in the background that you can stop from happening and take the permission away.

Let us know if this fixes the situation.

Checking Background Applications

1. Windows+I for Settings.

2. Select Privacy and hit Enter.

3. Tab once and arrow to Activity History then, arrow down towards the bottom of the list and select Background Apps pressing Enter.

4. Now Tab through change whatever you see that you are not interested in running in the background by using your spacebar for the on/off toggle. Just try and take note of what you've toggled off so if there are problems, simply go back using the above steps and toggle it back on.

Hello, okay, I restarted my pc after I updated   jaws and I had to restart the pc of course.   So when it came back up, edge was showing and it wanted me to sign in to windows, I do not sign in to windows I have a local account.

 was saspicious to me.

Meanwhile, there is absolutely no speech from jaws, nvda or narrator.

my computer  signed me out of windows edge came up,wanting me to sign in to windows and I checked I wanted to not sign in to windows.

I tried to by pass this window but, i could not.

SO it locked me out of everything.

I had my sighted assistant restart the pc and we had to do it a couple of times.

It would not even let us reset the pc to an earlier date.

Every time we could not get speech of any kind.

So is there something i should uninstall that is causeing this to happen!

I had this  happend before and of course edge always came up,wanting me to sign in to windows and when I did not the whole pc gets locked up.

I thought it was a fluke but, it is happening again.

Funny this all started when I updated to 1909.

How to prevent this from happening as I do not always have sighted assistance.

Thank you for any advice!

The sort of pronunciation changes one likes or prefers, differ from
person to person. I for one, don't really have to customise more than
a couple of things as such. There are a few people who compile entries

hope, this reply is of some consiquence for you & probablly others may

Ah no, I do not think so or I should say I am not sure!  I think it has something to do with edge, why does it keep coming up when I have my default to chrome. Or fire fox. I wish I could just get rid of edge so it would not keep coming up when this happens. All I did was restart for the jaws update. I remember it kept saying “block shut down go back and save your work,” so I checked and I had nothing that needed to be saved. So I figured, to restart anyways. Sorry I forgot about this part. And you know the rest, no speech and  a window telling me to sign in to windows when I never had to do this before as I have a local account. Do  you think  I have a broken windows update? Is there away to check?  I think I have that knew edge it installed when my pc installed updates, no choice I have windows home.

Thank you, Heather

Did you recently install the latest cumulative update to Win 10 1909?  All sorts of problems have been reported with this update. Unfortunately, there is no way to indefinitely defer cumulative updates.  At some point, they will install themselves automatically, whether you like it or not.  Yet again, MS has demonstrated its thoughtlessness and inconsideration for blind customers who may not have sighted help available during the national health crisis.  They keep rolling out buggy updates with dubious improvements.  They should suspend the release of all cumulative and feature updates until the health crisis has passed.

One plan gives fast upload and download speed and I would get those fast speeds by using a CDN.  Can somebody explain what a CDN is?  and how does one use it?  Walter.

Jaws2020 Update Build 2004.66.40 Update Download + What's New

Mike B.

Hi All,

Below is the download link for both 32 & 64 bit systems + what's new in this release.

Announce Group Changes in Outlook 365 Message Lists

JAWS can now indicate group changes, such as dates or conversations, as you navigate through message lists. For example, if your Outlook view settings
are set to show messages by date and you are navigating a folder containing messages covering multiple days, when you move to the first message in the
new date group, you will hear announcements such as "today," "yesterday," "last week," or "two weeks ago." To turn on this feature, open Quick Settings
(INSERT+V) while in Outlook and select the Announce Group Change in Lists check box.

New Focus Braille Display Commands for Adjusting Speech Rate

You can now use the following controls on the Focus braille display to adjust the speech rate.

list of 4 items
• Temporarily increase speech rate: LEFT or RIGHT SHIFT+RIGHT SELECT CHORD
• Temporarily decrease speech rate: LEFT or RIGHT SHIFT+LEFT SELECT CHORD
• Permanently increase speech rate: RIGHT SELECT CHORD
• Permanently decrease speech rate: LEFT SELECT CHORD
list end

New Dialog Box for Troubleshooting Remote Access

JAWS and Fusion now includes a new Remote Desktop dialog box to help troubleshoot remote access connection issues. It can be accessed from the Options
menu in JAWS or the Support submenu in the Fusion main menu. From this dialog box, you can:

list of 4 items
• See whether or not your Freedom Scientific software is authorized for remote access.
• Check the status for each supported remote channel (Remote Desktop, Citrix, or VMWare Horizon).
• Repair any channel that is reported to not be working.
• Test the connection between the client and server/remote computers.
list end

Other Changes
list of 8 items
• If Mouse Echo is enabled and you move over text with the mouse, JAWS or Fusion now only reads the current line as expected instead of reading everything
on the screen.
• Book nine of the JAWS Basic Training, Surf's Up, Surfing the Internet with JAWS, an Introduction, has been updated to include links to go directly to
the Surf's Up web pages. To get the latest book, select Training from the JAWS Help menu to open the Training Table of Contents in FSReader, select the
link to open book nine, and then press ENTER when prompted to install the updated book.
• Added a new Quick Settings (INSERT+V) option called List Nesting Level Announcement which is off by default and available in Chrome and Edge Chromiun.
Use this option to enable the announcement of nesting levels for list items in edit fields on web pages like Google Docs.
• Resolved an issue where JAWS would sometimes exit Forms Mode when pressing ENTER in some multiline edit fields.
• In response to customer feedback, disabled the announcement of inserted and deleted text on web pages.
• In Microsoft Teams, when you press CTRL+PERIOD to display Teams hot keys, the Virtual Cursor is now active so you can review the keystrokes as if you
were on a web page.
• Addressed a reported issue in the retail version of Excel 2016 where JAWS would become sluggish after using Paste Special.
• Added updated braille drivers from Humanware containing performance improvements when using their line of displays with JAWS and Fusion.
list end

When you are in the source, can you use the virtual pc cursor or browse mode, both names for the same thing that different screen-readers use? If so, you can use the search command your screen-reader makes available in the virtual pc cursor or browse mode.

Hi - does anyone know how to get audio descriptions into Vimeo?  A friend has created an incredible film and made significant effort for both audio descriptions and captions.  She figured out how to get the subtitles/captions file uploaded but don't know how to get audio descriptions into Vimeo.  Very few films even make the effort for audio descriptions so we can't let this be a wasted effort.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions or assistance!

Re: downloading dropbox

Gene

It sounds as though the problem is that the program updated itself and the person is seeing the new interface.
Open Drop Box in the system tray, I don't think the system tray dialog will work.
To open it, use the space bar to open the dialog when you are on the icon.
Tab until you get to display folders in. It’s a combo box.
Up or down arrow. whatever works, to Windows Explorer. You may see File Explorer, I don't know. Whichever you see, that is the old interface.
Tab to and activate the ok button.

So where should I tell her to go to get a screen reader friendly drop box program. IS it still https://ninite.com/.

I have been giving her step by step instructions as she does not like dealing with tec issues woe! So I gave her the instructions to uninstall drop box off her pc right now.

Thank you, Heather
