Hmm now that you mentioned having back ups I am wondering if I should
have sprung for an extra just encase. Merv I am also adding this
Corsair K55 to my wish list as well.

I know that the first step is to go to Filter. The next step
is to go to Remove. That worked for years, but not now.

I don't see any connection between filters and whether a
screen-reader says something like 3 of 15. As far as I
know, a screen-reader saying that sort of thing is a feature
of screen-readers and sighted people don't have such
information.

Second, I looked up filters. I don't use Outlook and I
didn't know what they did. They seem to be for creating
message rules, such as to send this or that message to
whatever folder is desired or, I would think take other
actions such as are found in message rules. But message
rules have nothing to do with whether such information is
announced. Do others who haven't discussed this get such
information in the current version of Outlook or a recent
version?

Hi all,

I've been using Outlook with IMap for over a week now. I am
grateful to all who talked me in to trying it again. 4 or 5
years ago, it didn't work for me. Now, I have a faster
internet connection and faster computers and I am loving
Outlook and imap.

I still have one more item that I hope can be resolved. I
want to know how many emails are in my In-box and where I am
in the list. For example, if I have 100 emails in my In-Box
and I am on email number 50, I would like Jaws to say 50 out

I have the check box in folder properties checked that tells
Outlook to number all mail. What else should I try?

I am using Jaws 19, Office365 and Windows10.

Thanks for any ideas,

I may have to use another program on my Windows 7 machine.  I don't use the machine online much and infection isn't likely but I'd still like something.

I recently saw a discussion about using version 8 of Esset.  Does such an old version still do a good job and are there problems it causes in operation of the computer or performance?

Re: stereo in-ear Bluetooth earbud recommendation

Vicky Vaughan

Hi Dave and List, I recently acquired a set of ear pods called Outlier by Creative. They have some of the features that Dave stated that he wanted.

They are solely Blue tooth and have no wires or loops.
They have a charging case into which they fit snugly and this in turn can be connected to your computer's
Blue tooth port or in my case, into a port on my stereo receiver.

The controls on the ear pods do different functions, so you would lose functionality by using only one.

They cost about $80 American dollars and have a really good sound.
There is a voice that will tell you when they turn on or off.
They paired to my HD 10 seventh gen Fire tablet with no trouble
In order to connect them to my Windows 10 desktop computer, it was necessary to get a Blue tooth adapter.
With the Windows 10, I did not need to download anything from the web, as I would have had to do, if I had a Windows 7 computer.
In order to get the ear pods to connect to the desktop I had to turn off the Blue tooth on my iPhone and tablet, so as not to interfere with the connection process. Once that was done however, I was able to turn Bluetooth back on for both of them, without disturbing that connection.

I did need sighted assistance with the pairing, since it was very helpful to know when the lights were flashing the right pattern to be paired.

The irritating fact about this is that when we lost electricity, I lost the pairing and had to go through all of it again.

They come with 2 sizes of ear tips, so you can probably find one that fits you.

If anyone wishes, I'd be glad to post the instructions for them.

Good luck in finding just the right pair for you and please let us know what you choose and how they workout for you.

Sincerely, Vicky V

Hello,

I've got one that I don't like, due to audio quality and just dissatisfaction overall. There are features that I like:

1. It has two earbuds not a reversable one. So I can put whichever one in the ear I want.
2. It has a charger case that I can also put in the earbud that I'm not using so I won't loose it.
3. No wires, no around the neck piece.

I would like these features. One thing I don't like is the lack of power and other buttons on this setup, also to skip tracks you have to have one earbud in to go forward and the other earbud in to go back, sometimes I'm wanting to only have one earbud in so as to be able to have an ear free. So something i want is having controls on each earbud for complete control without relying on a phne.

I'd appreciate any recommendations, budget friendly around $50 US please.
Thanks.
Dave.

Re: to users of notepad++

David Mehler

Hello,

The problem I've got with Notepad specifically is that by default it
saves files in ansi, when I want to save something I'm needing to save
in UTF-8, so I select the UTF-8 option, the problem is notepad puts
some strange special character (invisible) that mucks up my page
validation process. This happens also when I select the Unicode
option.

If it wasn't for that i'd use it it's perfect otherwise, doesn't have
the tracking or selection speak issues that notepad++ seems to have.

Thanks.

Re: keyboards with an Applications key

Merv Keck

I have a USB keyboard that has an applications key but not an extra windows key on the right. I like this keyboard because it has six programmable keys on the left side of the keyboard but does not require two USB ports like many gamers keyboards. It also does not require drivers discs or applications like many gamers keyboards. It is the Corsair K55 and while not wireless and not having the extra Windows key I do not regret buying it.

hahah no worries I was just asking because the model I have here has the windows key on the right, and not the apps key. Kind of really annoyed me when I got it. It's also a logitech and mouse combo. So I ordered the keyboard late last night. It will be here tomorrow. I really don't care about the size of the keyboard. Will try this one and hope it works out. Hopefully I can get me the mechanical Logitech keyboard I want at some point. I really hate having to use the shift
f10 command just to be able to right click.

The Alt and Control keys are there on the right hand side alright, but
not the extra Windows key. It has only one Windows key and that's on
the left, located between the Control and Alt Keys. But the
Applications key is definitely there on the right!

I didn't realise you also wanted the extra Windows key. It's been
over a thousand years since I played with the type of keyboard that
has an extra Windows on the right. Back when I had one, I had to be
tethered to the computer to use it. It wasn't wireless, but had a USB
plug with about a three or six-foot cord.

Ok, since I goofed, I'll just miss the beer and wine party and go bury
my face in that pillow and practise snoring for giggles!

Re: to users of notepad++

What's wrong with straight Notepad without the ++, or WordPad? What do you need Notepadd++ to do that these others do not?

Hello,

Anyone using notepad++? If so, are there any preferences you've
switched? Couple of things that are bothering me, it doesn't seem to

Is there a better editor to use?

Thanks.
Dave.

Re: Needing some advice on purchasing a new desktop

You do not need a bunch of technical experience to switch out of windows 10 s mode. A quick google search brings up very simple easy to follow directions. Anyone can do it. And on amazon, for $350 or so, I found a laptop with an AMD a12 processor, 8gigs ram and a 256gb solid state drive, with windows 10 in s mode. Again, do a quick google search for
switch windows 10 out of s mode.

and easy to use directions for switching it out of s mode should come up.

Smiling?

As far as being announced 50 out of 100 not at all sure of how one would do that with JAWS. Hearing how many emails within whatever given folder, just try using the keystroke (while focus is within this folder)

Subject: [TechTalk] How do I get Jaws to number emails in Outlook using Jaws

Hi all,

I’ve been using Outlook with IMap for over a week now.  I am grateful to all who talked me in to trying it again.  4 or 5 years ago, it didn’t work for me.  Now, I have a faster internet connection and faster computers and I am loving Outlook and imap.

I still have one more item that I hope can be resolved.  I want to know how many emails are in my In-box and where I am in the list.  For example, if I have 100 emails in my In-Box and I am on email number 50, I would like Jaws to say 50 out of 100.

I have the check box in folder properties checked that tells Outlook to number all mail.  What else should I try?

I am using Jaws 19, Office365 and Windows10.

Thanks for any ideas,

James B
